More than 3 lakh silver anklet workers are there in Salem district of Tamil Nadu, who are among the worst affected whenever an election is declared in the region. This is because of the model code of conduct which places restrictions on transportation of silver products weighing more than 150 grams. According to the workers, their products often cross the set limit, putting them through great distress. They also expressed that they were badly affected by demonetisation and the inappropriate implementation of GST. Further, the pandemic-induced lockdown added to their distress.
