I think the scene was absolute perfection in showcasing how flawed the Senate was. You have for the "brief" moment hope and then Sheev rises and just twists it all into a victory. I'm really curious where this goes and if we'll see more Sheev later on this season (maybe him and Tarkin have a convo on the Storm Troopers or whatever Clone Trooper Rampart used to do his dirty work in episode 7). Ian McDiarmid did reprise his role for the episode and kills it. I love that he's played this character for so long and still just OOZES so much vocally.

I love that he basically can't lose in this scenario. He wants stormtroopers. He orders Rampart to destroy the cloning facilities. This puts the senate in a bit of crisis as they try to figure out what to do and if they should go with this bill, which they likely will because they got no other option. Palpatine doesn't need to do anything really, he's in the background with the excuse that the senate can handle this. Only when evidence is brought in that Rampart destroyed Kamino's cloning facility dose he appear to twist the truth to his advantage. He is still going to get his stormtroopers. Always has been.

Clearly inspired by real history. To use the obvious example, Hitler. He became chancellor of Germany in January 1933. At the time, he only had two Nazi members of his cabinet. After the Reichstag fire in February, he did not let a good crisis go to waste and new laws curtailing personal liberties (in the name of security) were passed. In the March elections, the Nazis were still a minority government, and had to use intimidation to get the Reichstag to pass the Enabling Act, which formed the basis of the future absolute dictatorship, but even then they still proceeded under the cover of legality and not simply "Because I said so".

Palpatine in this episode was so fire, of course he is a very powerful Sith lord, but his main advantage is that he is a strategic and political mastermind. So glad the show paid more attention to this side of Palpatine

What was kinda missing for me was for him to actually adress the issue of the retiring clones. It would have showcased his ability to play both sides to appeal to everyone, like a true mastermind

Imagine Palpatine and Tywin Lannister joining forces. Man we would all be screwed. Both are great tacticians when it comes to taking control without looking like the bad guys.

Something to note about Palpatine during this. Is that he is clearly much more *aggressive* in his mannerisms and words now. He no longer needs to in his eyes play up the spectacle of the kind and soft Supreme Chancellor of the Republic. And he clearly show that he is truthfully just annoyed with the senate. Such as when he points out the *immediacy* of the legislation.

Just as James Earl Jones is the voice of Darth Vader, and Sam Witwer is the voice of Galen Marek, so is Ian McDiarmid, the voice of emperor Palpatine

Funny, years ago palpatine used jar-jar to usher a clone army and now used(up) rampart to usher in the IMPERIAL STORMTROOPER.

In previous videos covering this topic, it was know that Tipoca City was destroyed, and debate on whether all cities were destroyed. Now we know EVERY SINGLE CITY is gone, and most Kaminoans were apparently still inside them, so their species is pretty much extinct now. It also feels more than ever that they don't want there to be any hope whatsoever of old Legends lore to ever be used. I was so looking forward to the Clone Rebellion on Kamino, at least having a chunk of it occurring there, but that's no longer possible. And it is such an extreme waste of resources to just wipe everything out. The cloning program would've been better if they kept it, but scaled it down more and more over time, and that is what really sets off the Clone Rebellion on Kamino and causes other clones across the galaxy to just vanish or rebel, to start questioning everything. THEN Kamino's cities are bombed - but not outright destroyed, but damaged, to keep the Kaminoans in submission, and the various facilities across the planet is used for other experiments and a very downsized cloning program, while the 501st keeps a mix of human-born troops and clones from Kamino, to honour the original Legends Lore of Vader's Fist being entirely made of Fett clones. Huuurgh.... the entire series is awesome, but I still hate how they've pretty much BANNED legends lore from being properly used. It's such a waste. Still leaves me conflicted, as the series IS still done very well.

I love the design of the senate building: like a beehive. Because the Republic/Empire is a “hive mind” with Palpatine as the Queen Bee. 😀 And when the podiums float, it looks like bees flying. 🐝

The way omega is taken back and instantly looks tense without knowing who the emperor is just goes to show how imposing he is and that the fear he imposes. You will listen and stay quiet to someone like him because you know he is someone likely to fear. This is demonstrated by Omega almost hiding away as soon as he enters. Great season so far!

As much as I appreciate Sam Witwer and anyone else who has voiced Palpatine, this scene just doesn't have the same weight without Ian McDiarmid. So awesome that he's been a part of Rebels and the Bad Batch recently.
