Why This ‘Patriotic’ Millionaire Wants to Raise Taxes on the Rich | NowThis

‘We own Congress. We own the White House. We wealthy people are running the country.’ - Here's why self-described Patriotic Millionaire Stephen Prince wants to raise taxes on the rich.
» Subscribe to NowThis: go.nowth.is/News_Subscribe
Stephen Prince is a multi-millionaire who made his fortune as the CEO of National Business Products, a company that manufactures plastic gift cards for retailers across the country. Unlike most millionaires, however, he is calling to reform the tax code and make the wealthy pay their fair share. By taxing the rich, Prince believes we can provide Medicare for All, mandate a living wage for workers, and eradicate income inequality. Prince got brutally honest in this video for NowThis explaining that the rich are in charge - in Congress and in the White House - and they are acting in their own interest for their own benefit. Prince believes that raising the minimum wage will increase consumption and we're better off putting money into the hands of people who will spend it in the economy than those at the top who already have plenty of money. Prince also says that the wealthy people in charge do not car if the economy improves just if they're making more money.

I truly like this guy, and his mindset. Unfortunately it doesn't work that simply. If McDonalds pays their employees $15 an hour one of 2 things WILL happen. The price of a big mac, (along with everything else on the menu) will double in price. OR they will invest in robots to make and serve your burgers. This isn't rocket science. Most industries operate on razor thin margins. Mandating that they pay employees more is not just unamerican, its inherently flawed. This guy can run up his margins as he sees. His competitors are not equipped to meet the same demand. A universal basic income is a good idea in the short term. In the long run it would have the same effect. Money would become less scarce ie. Less valuable. You'll be pushing ur Zimbabwe dollars in a wheelbarrow to the grocery store for a loaf of bread.

Successful investing is hard work because it means disciplining your mind to do the opposite of human nature. Buying during a panic, selling during euphoria, and holding on when you are bored and just craving a little action. Investing is 5% intellect and 95% temperament.

@alexsteven.m6414 I'd say that a good portion of successful investing is money. Like, 99% of investing is money. Someone starving on the street isn't going to be able to buy during a panic, and probably doesn't have anything to sell during euphoria. If I may be so bold, I'd say investing is virtually impossible for someone who has no money!

I asked for a raise just to hit the average so that I didn't have to live in the 'hood' as an executive and was told, it wasn't in the budget. Then later on I was told by a colleague that he feels that raises should never be given to employees for no reason... why? because he says it takes away their motivation to be better employees. WHAT?! That would've actually made me feel more loyal and more motivated to know that my hard work of working 60 hour weeks would actually get rewarded. 40 Billion! These folks just don't get it. There's nothing wrong with being rich, but why would you want to have a company full of full-time employees who have to work 2 jobs or live check to check or can't afford to buy a home, or have to be 30+ with 2-3 roommates. It's better than having a nice dictator though. Our government ONLY listens to the wealthiest people. If ALL of them are of the "taxes are bad, cut my taxes down to zero percent and I might share my money with you", then that's what the government does. If at least a few of them are like this guy, then we might have a chance at changing the system. It's that, or we actually educate the populace to vote against every single incumbent until we get a government that actually listens to the voters. It's sad, but the former is more practical because about half of the country has sold out their country in exchange for a Chinese-made red hat and a stupid slogan. For the record, I hate the Clintons and Biden just as much!
