Nailed it. Other obvious factors were the non-prevalence of nip-tucking every little body flaw away with plastic, far less criminally over-adulterated food, and modern media not having keyed in that anger & anxiety are the two best emotional states to manipulate people with. I have met some youthful 20 somethings that look their age or a tad younger, but most have been hammered by stress and have the new equivalent of the 'thousand yard stare' our grandfathers did that I like to call the 'thousand screen stare'. I would hate growing up now, where everyone is in metaphorically your back pocket, nagging you while also trying to be your friend and putting you down, all just to get your milk money. Best advice I can give, because life over-stressed and filled with cortisol, is to learn to let most things go. It doesn't mean you become a doormat and get walked on and have no hard lines in the sand or strong opinions that will rock the boat at times. It just means that most things are already a giant rock in motion, and to either step to the side, or hop on top and ride it out. Worrying about all the details and uncontrollables when most never matter or come into play puts you in an early grave.

I'm positive that social media and beauty standards plays a large roll. There is an overuse of personal care and cosmetic products. Now, every generation has had its share of beauty trends and products, of course, but what are those ten step skincare routines really doing in the long run? Is it really good for your skin to jump between new serums and cleaners? Do we know the longterm outcomes of these formulas and chemicals? I'm not trying to fear monger and say reject "non-natural" products, I use skincare products, but I think there's something to be said about the over abundance of it all. That's not even touching on the cosmetics and increase in plastic surgery.

I'm 36 and often get asked what school I attend... Gen Z has a ton of expectations on them to be physically perfect, to start using makeup sooner, to perform in front of others. Add to that the bleak prospects for the future (which we Millennials also had, except we didn't know it until like 2008), increased pollution and microplastics which are affecting us all, and more exposure to bad news and screen time than we had growing up... And there you have it. I used to be online ALL THE TIME from like 8yo onward, but looking back, that was just all of my leisure time from 6 PM-10 PM. Didn't have access to the internet until after school, but first I had to do homework until dinner, and THEN I went online, which to me was a place full of creative artists and fandoms... We all made fansites back then. There were only 2-3 ads per day when you logged on to AOL, and then no ads after that. No corporate presence. Just midi files and IM-ing your friends until someone called the house and you got booted offline.

The younger generation is more nihilistic, too. It’s sad. We were more idealistic and had a healthier understanding of aging and having a full life. The message these kids are getting now is that life is basically over by the time you’re 30. I think this is a result of the decline in real life being exciting and “life” being lived through a phone.

Staring at screens all day in a dark room makes it so you can't sleep, and this does not help you look young. I don't care what anyone says, I've experienced it first hand, being outside in natural light, exercising, and letting yourself calm down, not playing video games and looking at your phone late at night, helps you sleep very deeply. Gen Z doesn't even have the contrast (they are basically never off their phone), and soon people won't connect it.

30 yr F here. I went to get some medical checkups done and the attendant came running to me and asked me to thoroughly check my name and age on the papers, seeming genuinely concerned that they may have messed up somehow (manual entries in my country). I had to reassure him that I really am 30 and I just don't look it. Another lady asked me what grade I'm in and I had to explain that I finished grad school 2 years ago. Tbh, I look young because I have bangs covering my huge forehead and I am relatively slim but I struggle with major depressive disorder, chronic insomnia and anxiety attacks so I'm not sure I'll continue to look young for much longer. However, what Jordan said is true - whenever I am overwhelmed I fervently look for a tv to watch cartoons while drawing or look up some old tv shows I watched growing up. I’m constantly mistaken for being in my 20’s.. I will say that the Waterhose water did in fact give me anti aging properties. I did become an introvert. But here’s why Being an extrovert stresses you out if you really aren’t an extrovert. If you’re constantly releasing cortisol due to trying to be something you aren’t. You’ll age yourself. So perhaps the 20 something’s need to become more authentic and stop chasing drama. It’ll reduce the cortisol which will pause the aging.

Honestly, I believe it is largley because of social media and food. We didn't grow up on social media or addicted to tv so we didn't have to deal with the pressures of beauty standards like it is today. We also grew up with larger familes..meaning less money to go around so we had more homecooked meals and less fast food and pricessed junk. Families aren't as big anymore so families can afford the snacks and take out. Plus, mental health in general is declining. Life is getting more expensive and stress is high. Another thing is faith in God. Older people are more likely to be belivers and faith does a lot for you. Trusting God to get you through storms relieves a lot of stress. There's so many factors.

I'm 39... And I have many of the same concerns and stresses as this generation of young folks do.. Think about it... I graduated college, started working in finance, and by the end of MY FIRST YEAR the crash of 2008 happened (though it was REALLY late-2007 when things started going left), and I was out of a job, with literally NO COMPANY hiring in my field of study, and with limited experience. And then many other industries and companies just stopped hiring altogether... and not just in NYC/Wall Street... But all over the country (and world in some industries/cases). The housing market crashed, then the auto market crashed... THEN all of the CD and Electronics stores started closing down _(that's unrelated, but it's still a significant loss, lol)._ And honestly, things were really never the same again, and we were the OG youngsters who got the first taste and lived with how things are today. And YET, *every single time* someone learns my age they tell me they thought I was in my mid-to-late 20's, without fail. Like you said... There must have been something in the hose/park water fountain water that slowed down the aging process. But if you're around 40... Things have been close to how they are for most of your professional career, as has the general level of stress. And at least if you're in your 20's you have the hope of knowing things may rebound or get better at some point, even if it takes a while... I'm getting to the age where I simply don't have time left on the clock for things to crash and change... So I may have MORE stress than the average 25-30 year-old

The only rule was that I had to check in periodically, either personally or by telephone. We didn't have the internet or truly immersive video games as there are today. I rode my bike many miles a day. Hose water was a common source of drinking water. In a sense, this childhood prepared me for adulthood as by the time I was 18, I was a fully functioning adult with a full time job. The moment I could legally leave my home, I moved without even a thought and moved to a west coast city. Also note, when I moved to the city, my rent was only $600 a month. That was easy to afford.

Make it a practice to think about things you have that you can and should be grateful for. Being around other people without an internet filter on, even if you’re just in a grocery store or at a park, will do wonders. There is a lot of beauty in this world and a lot to be genuinely positive about, but you won’t know if you’re always taking on life through a screen. It saddens me that the online world has managed to convince people that there is nothing to be happy about. Even after an earthquake or a hurricane, kids will go outside and play. I'm 25 but people still say to me that I look no older than 20, even though I'm starting to see some expression lines forming up (which is something to be expected, I guess). I, for example, don't have any food or drinking compulsions (I don't even consume alcohol). My escape valve always was and still is music. After a long stressful day of trouble at work, I can easily stay for hours non-stop listening to something that makes me feel better and calmer before I go to bed, as if I was washing out my mind from all that dirt that comes with everyday situations. If I do look younger than my age, then I truly believe that the aforementioned facts helped me achieve that.

I´m in my 20s, i was told upon entering highschool that fun was over for me and now only work and study mattered, with people of older generations being dissapointed that i don´t own a house and a bunch of other expectations that are no longer possible with a regular income or study, doesn´t help that a lot of older people around me do nothing but complain about my generation saying the world is going to shi* because we exist. With this level of stress i don´t blame many 20 year olds for feeling or looking like trash at times.

KZread when I have extra time. Reddit when I have some random question to ask.

That garden hose water after playing on the slip and slide hit different

Millennial here, my hobbies are what keep me young. Bonus points for hobbies that get me outside and count as exercise. I like to change my hobbies up a lot and try new things too. You have to realize that with a new hobby you won't be good at it right away, and you have to have the courage to be bad at something for a while before you get good at it. I hope you will have the courage to try. Pick a new hobby and have fun, guys!

Ladies and gentlemen... Nothing looks better in your 40's and 50's than sunscreen in your 20's. Take care of yourself now, and by the time you're nearly 50 (like me), people will still mistake you for being in your 30's.

Sunscreen is full of carcinogenic chemicals. Just take a healthy dosage of sun light every day, specially in the morning, and stay in the shadow when the Sun is peaking.
I'm 42, 43 end of the year and people keep telling me I look in my early 30's easily, even late 20's why I genuinely find hard to believe, but I hear it enough, even if it is just people being nice. I have a very broad range of interests, so I'm always genuinely excited to share that knowledge with people, either through memories or teaching/showing how to do things (I'm in Construction, work on cars, into tech, Anime, gaming, music and the gym so there's always something) and ABSOLUTELY feel young and refreshed every single time I can share things with people or help them. I've always been told I wear my heart on my sleeve, and I embrace it more nowadays, being true to my feelings and thoughts and expressing them without concern on how I appear to other people. In general the vibe I give off is always a pleasant one for others, no matter how I feel inside. Honestly, not solely your appearance but your sincere and sage advice made me think for time you were in your 30's or 40's, you've blown my mind that you're in your 20's. BUT. You have the heart and mind of a wise man, you'll refine like an extremely fine wine or whiskey and look and feel hella good in your 40's and 50's, trust me. 😊

@nashfordtx

This is so true. I never "fit in" or liked going to big parties but I went anyway. Then I learned I was an introvert and now I saw "no" to everything. I feel so much lighter and less stressed.
That's wild. I'm 39 and was a jubilant extrovert growing up. I'm a hermit introvert now and still look like I'm in my early 20s. It's really bizarre the difference in appearance of each generation. Looking at pictures of the same age of each generation, that is.
Hah, I'm months away from 40 and every time I get an Uber driver they're shocked if they ask my age. I had one pick me up early in the morning and they asked if they were taking me to the high school! A few years ago the dentist walked in, immediately seemed taken aback, and asked where my parents were. It took me a while to realize it's not just that I look younger, but younger people look older now.
Life was better back then. I'd spend all day outside with my friends. We would play sports and ride bikes. I remember summer vacation meant the whole neighborhood was home and all the kids would play.

What you said is so absolutely true! I'm in my early 40's and I still get carded for liquor! I can still fit in as far as the image with College Grads! It was meant for my generation to fit the standards of Society! Men and Women were expecting to still be fit and active in The environment that We were in! Hardly no technology, so Your word was bond! Hardly no plastic surgeries, so people accepted your talent was more important than how you look! There were only main news channels, so your personal experiences weren't inspirational nor important at Our time, it was typical!

Here’s a heartfelt suggestion: Stay off of social media. Entirely. Go outside and leave your phone at home. Find some active hobbies like cooking, or woodwork, or painting. 33 and I'm mistaken for an early to mid 20s guy. I attribute all of this to just finding happiness in the small things I enjoy even though stress is always part of my life. The child in me hasn't died, I may look stupid and cringe for enjoying toons and comics, but eh, let me enjoy those and let me be happy. The key for me is just learning to be happy for myself and enjoying life.
Gen X here, I'm 48... I used baby oil and Nivea cream as my sun tan lotion. I used lemon juice to dye my hair. Played outside until it was dark, didn't have a computer until I was in my 20's. We ate Pop-Tarts, Nerds, rock candy, drank Squeeze-Its and Capri Sun. We chewed Hubba Bubba and Bazooka until we went to sleep. Went through a can of Aqua Net once a week, doused ourselves with Electric Youth perfume. Went to rock concerts and didn't come home until morning. People think I'm in my mid-thirties....
I’m 50. It’s all about taking care of your body. You have to give up the weed and the alcohol, and do your best to stop stressing out about life. Also, chill on the social media. It’s a mind cemetery and will just stress you out even more. You don’t need to have two degrees and a house by 25. Trust. You will get that in time, if that’s what you want.
It must have been the public park fountain for me cause I didn’t have a house to even have a water hose 🤣
I'm 25 but people still say to me that I look no older than 20, even though I'm starting to see some expression lines forming up (which is something to be expected, I guess). I think it's a combination of genetics, of how you deal with the things that life throws at you and even your diet.
I'm 60yo, and feeling better when I was 20ish. Physically, noticing the effects of aging BUTT the things that made waste my time are no longer my jailor.
I'm 71 and your 40s-50s fits our growing up, too. We were kicked out of the house after breakfast and couldn't come back until the streetlights came on. After dinner, we went out again, and played flashlight tag for a couple of hours, before going in and to bed. Then start all over the next morning. The extrovert to introvert is a direct strike, too. Being outside has worn off its attraction. There is too much to do inside.

I said thank you to the lady for asking, she thought I was offended for some reason and tried to re-justify her questioning of my age saying "well maybe you are old enough but our policy is to ask everyone that looks 25 or under". I said "well thank you again for that compliment" handed her my ID and she looked at it and said "Oh,😳 sorry sir" 😂😂
It was the most refreshing water drinking from the water hose as a kid while outside playing. 😂😊❤
Us in our 30s & 40s had hopes and dreams. Their generation was concerned with growing up fast and partying. Very adverse affects to each group.
I'm 23 and my father is 53. People have been mistaking me for his sister since I was 14. My elder sister is 29 and people mistake her for my daughter. Having your entire life be the post-9/11 wars, the Great Recession, the Opioid epidemic, the Trump Era, the covid Era, *and* the Worsening-Effects-of-Climate-Change Era is sure to cause some premature aging. At the very least my sister got *some* childhood bliss. I was born and then 6 months later the entire world went to irreparable shit.

People think I am my mother's younger brother. She is over 50 and looks half the age. I am 18 and look like im in my 30s
im legit 25 and got my first gray hair's at 24 even though my mom and dad didn't gray until their 30s. I am under constant stress of losing my job due to layoffs from the recession. on top of that, things are so damn expensive that I have no money for anything else such as, going to the movies, the zoo, literally anything that involves money. not to mention half my quality of life has been severely damaged due to the constant political war that my country is in. My job would also like for me to forget about everything that is going on in the world and smile at least at work. I'm also still going through personal shit that I feel I can never focus on because everything else in my life requires so much of my attention. I love being gen z.
lol as a 41 year old i approve of this video i became extremely introverted and dont have the desire to keep up with the jones i drank out of the outside water pipe cause I refuse to go inside the house for some water. I stayed outside from 11 AM to streetlight actually had fun. I did a everything I could do as a child in a young adult. My child when I was 26 and all I wanna do now is just chill. I don’t wanna go to the club. I don’t wanna go to the bars. I don’t wanna go to meet up. I don’t even wanna go to church. I just want to be left alone.
43... Too damn true. 80s was the best of America!

No it wasn't. That's when everything went to sh!t because of Ronald Reagan.

@@zoilalulu3798 Everything was always "bad" by that logic. The 70's had Vietnam and Nixon which were way worse. While the 60's also had Vietnam, a president getting assassinated, and the Cuban missile crisis. I could go on and on, always look on the optimistic side of things or else you will always be sad.
Facts. We played outside, not glued to a phone or tablet. 😂😂😂😂

I wish I was a kid back in the 80s-90s. This technology and media shit is awful.
