Yeah 256 frames per second is impressive but unnecessary. What's the point of driving a car that goes 200mph if the speed limit is 80mph. In my world, PC is for work. Consoles are for play.

It feels like games these days are made for celebrities and twitch streamers, instead of regular gamers.

I do think most AAA developers have lost sight of the 'fun'. Graphics are pretty and all but they are ultimately pointless.

the worst part of this generation is games media. Its turned into sensationalist BS and constant rumors and click bait. We used to get rumors occasionally, maybe something out of left field. But now we're reached a point where nothing from games media can be trusted unless its on screen in front of us from the developer/publisher.

I have a PS2 and a PS5 in my room and I probably play the ps2 about 5x as much as I do my PS5. the games just don't do it for me any more. Playing old skool squaresoft RPGs and they kick the absolute crap out of all the JRPGs on PS5.

should be why the 9th generation for MS and Sony aren’t that exciting because Nintendo has had a very good 9th generation with the Switch

well we do have to remember this gen had a really bad start with first 2 year shutdown and logistic lines in shambles for at least a year later. Always the same, new hardware it takes time, for some Reason Red dead 2 and TLOUS 2 took so many years.

All these videos have this ONE weird thing in common... They ALL acknowledge Nintendo as the sole exception, but they still lament about a "console problem." Let's call it EXACTLY what it is... *Its a Sony/Microsoft problem!* (Other publishers play a role, too, but this is where the most responsibility lies) We're seeing the FRUIT of the ideology/environment that they've cultivated for years. This is the environment and culture that they have created for their consoles to exist in, where just enjoying a fun game isn't enough(but even that they rarely achieve). Everything must conform to a perceived 'AAA' moniker, even while studios are struggling to get games out. It is DEMONSTRABLE that the current market is quite happy to mix things up a bit(ie: lower budget games do achieve amazing success), but these big-brain publishers only look at cherry picked data. Even now, they are STILL doubling down on their 'Presentation-First' approach to game design, on top of a heavy-handed methodology to the budgets involved, as though quality scales linearly with budgets(let alone scales at all!). Good luck!🤦🏽‍♂️

Hell maybe run some of the game local and do the ray tracing or whatever on the cloud. Do we even need more generations once cloud is perfected?

@@ViridianFlow eventually the hardware gets outdated as technology continues to advance. I think 7 years is a good amount of time between generations. I can see that extending to 10 years between at some point. Console generations used to be 5 years apart until the Xbox 360 and PS3 gen, then it shifted to 7 years.

@@FURognar Sure but what I'm saying is the hardware that runs the cloud can upgrade constantly whenever they have the tech. Unless they want to change something completely fundamental like the input style (like going from a standard controller to a VR controler) the hardware at your house doesn't matter all that much anymore, or at least it matters less today than it did yesterday and will keep moving in that direction so long as internet speeds keep improving.

I built a high end gaming PC and still have my PS5. Still prefer my Ps5. Pc is great and all but console still has physical and makes me feel like a kid again.

I'm getting ads thrown at me on the PC too... Like every five minutes OR LESS... WATCHING THIS VIDEO. 🙄

It's felt like being strung along in a bad relationship, and we keep looking back on how great things used to be.

14:22 day 1 patches started out as a way to deter people from pirating games on PC. Get your cracked copy, but then a day 1 patch fixes things and you already have to download a patch, because the base game without the patch was unbeatable in some fashion. Now it’s more of a standard excuse for “we are fixing this thing we didn’t spend enough money on making cause we spent tooooo much money on commercials”

PC just makes more sense this Gen. 6th and 7th gens were just magical. Probably never see anything like it again.

Played on PC for 8 years. Got tired of upgrades. Got tired of games not working at first attempt, WHICH STILL HAPPENS. DrDisrespect has a few recent videos where he goes ballistic because he can't get the game to even launch and we have all felt what he hilariously displayed. Got tired of having 3 or 4 different game launchers. PC gaming is a continual pain in the ass.

22:55 Actually that's a myth. The guys at "does it play?" (they're doing god's work btw) have proven that the majority of discs come with a playable version of a game. Nintendo and Sony are good with that (with exceptions) while Xbox is the one with the worst record. So please, continue supporting physical media :)

I'm 54. I have been playing video games since they were practically invented, starting with playing a black and white Tank game in a Pizza restaurant when I was 8 in the late 70s. As a kid, my parents used to take me to arcades and let me play for hours. I was there in the early 80s during the golden age of arcades. I fell in love with those games, as they were all about gameplay and innovation (not the gimmicky laser disk games). I continued playing arcade and console games as I grew up. Odyssey, Atari 2600, Colecovision, Commodore 64, PC, Atari 7800, NES, Gameboy, Lynx, Super NES, Genesis, Sega CD, 32X, Neo Geo, Jaguar, 3DO, PlayStation, Virtual Boy, N64, Saturn, Dreamcast, PS2 XBOX, GameCube, GBA, DS, PSP, Neo Geo Pocket Color, PS3, 360, Vita, 3DS, Wii, Wii U, Switch, Xbox One, PS4, etc..... I started hardcore collecting in 1993 and I still have my collection. In the late 80s, I made my own video games on my Commodore 64, too. Games started jumping the shark after the PS3 and 360, and they went off into tangents. I began to lose interest in most of them. I play emulators and build PCs and video game consoles, now. I am developing arcade machines, too. I am also developing my own games. The most modern game that I played and really got into was Breath of the Wild on the Switch, which is awesome. I hated Tears of the Kingdom, however. Now, I play what most would call "retro" games, especially arcade games. The future isn't graphics and trying to make games like movies to tell a story. The future is the past, with games, such as older arcade games, that were all about gameplay. I hope that the video game industry crashes. They don't make video games anymore, and it deserves to crash. I have the games that I want to play. I also make them. If you can't make a video game by yourself or with a small team, they may not be worth it, as it would be a case of diminishing returns. In the next few years, gamers will use A.I. to make the games that they want to play (or learn to code or use development tools). They will also make their own consoles.

The main benefit for a console at this point is the price point. You won’t get the same quality at the price point in the PC world.

The margin of that benefit is getting smaller though. Consoles are getting more expensive and even mid gen refreshes aren't cheaper as they used to be, games are more expensive too. On PC you can build a good gaming rig with a 2nd hand GPU with similar performance for a decent price. Still more expensive initially but much cheaper to upgrade later than buying a whole new console for example the PS5 Pro for relatively small gains.

@@rodriguezkev Except a second-hand console is also cheaper, too. Like right now, we can get an Xbox Series X|S for $350.00 and $200, respectively. No PC built with secondhand parts for either of those price points would be worth a damn. And game prices on console are super cheap, too. CDkeys, Eneba, and other websites sell their console games almost as cheap as the PC games. In some instances, just as cheap. Games on console haven't been "expensive" since 2017 by my count.

@@amazingamazigh1538 the ps3 got good toward the end of the generation once Xbox started moving forward with the Xbox one. But for the vast majority of the gen 360 was dominating.

"So stick with 360, that's your message." and here I am in 2024 playing 360 more than any other console by far. They used to actually try to make fun games back in the day.

Theres a reason the only modern console i own is the switch. Its not competing with pc, it has a reason to exist beyond graphics capability

Really though, I feel like every developer is too focused on large-scale multi-player games instead of Splinter Cell Chaos theory 2v2 type games

The generation isn't exciting because the games are not exciting. Consoles shouldn't go away, but they eventually will. Services like Game Pass, Nvidia GeForce and others will take over in time. Gaming PCs have also stepped it up as well.

Its definitely a nice experience. when I get home I press the power button on my PC, steam loads up and I press play on my favorite game(s). All in the comfort of my recliner with the choice of a dualsense or xbox controller. 😂

It all goes downhill when they try to bring pc experience to console. High graphics, more patches fixes, fiddling with updates and upgrades. This is why the Nintendo traditional model kick their ass. Console has always been , slide in the disc and cartridge and play. We can get back , look for technology that works like that - don’t be pc about it.

It's funny how he highlights the Wii, but omitted the Switch because it counters most of his points. I get it. He is really talking about Xbox and PS, so why bring up Nintendo at all?

Its because a big parts of studios game dev don't create games and universe with ideas in mind using their creativity anymore , Xbox and Sony just ask them that they need to do a hero shooter, a souls like, a horror game , a fps or other type of game just to have one to sell and touch a public

It is fun for xbox and nintendo fans. PC fans have been estactic. Lets call it what it is . Its not fun for ps fans. But that does not mean it is bad for gaming. IJS

Why buy consoles, my thought two years ago, I've already jumped to PC and after tasting freedom I could never go back to a walled off garden. Also, games take too long to make because they are worried about realism instead of fun games. I think this is why the Switch 2 has taken so long to release, because the hardware is there, they need a solid software line up and they know it.

Do console gamers not use the standby feature to catch updates? I have my PC that I leave powered off and still remember to launch Steam every now and again to catch updates. Also my buddy uses his DS5 Mic as a back up for work lmao.

Fell in love with zenkais videos a little while ago. Amazing work that he puts out.

If you're not excited by the new consoles you didn't try to play Cyberpunk on a PS4 like I did...

I was lucky(?) enough to secure a PS5 at launch. I played Cyberpunk on it and it was still pretty shitty. Can't imagine how it ran on PS4.

For me personally, nothing has really changed. I didn't play many games 20 years ago and I still don't play many today, but I can tell you one thing for sure. This is the first cycle where I can see myself play more than ever towards the end of it simply because games are becoming more cinematic and less "gamey" which usually breaks the immersion. So yeah, there is no definite answer. it's completely subjective

Sorry to hear that Sony and PS games aren't fun. Shrug. Graphics will never change that. Design changes that.

I've never had to think about game updates on my Series S. I think it just comes on and updates both the system and games at like 5am. Actually no, there is sometimes 3 or 4 updates in the que when I turn it on. But for the most part, most of the heavy lifting happens in the early hours.

PC ftw. A PC with a console like OS, but the ability to still switch to Windows, MacOS, Linux or SteamOS would be dope! Im always gonna build Full Tower PCs, cause I like having room to build whatever I want and still have lots of airflow, but consoles bring gaming to the casuals in a more costly and digestible way to get them into the full PC experience.

Wait... Ive LOVED this console generation. I still cannot believe Game Pass is a real thing i get to enjoy and when its gone im sure kids wont even believe im telling the truth about it.

I honestly think it depends on what games you are playing. I think there has been plenty of good games this generation and more are on the way. I think people need to broaden their horizons more and play different types of games across multiple platforms.

If I’m being honest , in my series x all I’m playing is old games I missed out on but with next gen upgrades. Metro Fallouts Elder scrolls Souls games Diablo 2 The only next gen experiences I’ve had were with my switch if I’m being completely Honest. I’m slowly gravitating towards just owning a pc and Nintendo consoles going forward .

I bought a PS5 Slim disc edition. I had to download updates to register the disc drive to be able to play the physical game I bought at the same time.

No PC could or would ever replace my Switch, point blank.

Switch really has its strong points. I play on many consoles (Sega MegaDrive mini, PS2, PS3, PS4, Xbox One X, Nintendo DSi, Nintendo Wii and Switch) and on PC though not as much nowadays than before because there's so much other things to do than play some games. Work, exercise, play sports, meet friends, going into venues, watching movies/series etc. And of course sleep.

Not sure if this is an unpopular opinion but I think social media influencers on places like KZread make gaming seem terrible . Negativity sells . Is the industry perfect ? No . But I can tell you as one who grew up poor the things we have access to now is amazing . Free to play games , cross play , subscription services , publicity for indie games etc . Handheld gaming pc’s.,Games should be working on release , but we get free patches ! FREE PATCHES. back in the day , if a game was messed up you needed to wait for a re release . There’s good games and bad games . People just don’t remember the bad old ones .

I’ve gone back to my old Nintendo consoles and the OG Xbox I’ve even bought a CRT after spending the past few years trying to get a good image quality from an lcd tv.

I have been mostly enjoying the indie titles for the past couple of generations and I started playing Another Crab's Treasure and Dicey Dungeons recently and enjoying it so far

Love my PC, I work on it, watch movies and videos on it, play games on it, shop on it. I have two 50" monitors, 64gb Ram, x box controllers, Racing Sim Wheels, Flight Sticks. It does everything I want. I haven't bought a console since PS3. With Steam and GamePass I'm all set.

The PS3/360 era was insane. We got three Arkham games, three Uncharted games, two GTA's, Last of Us, three Maas Effects...Jesus.

As a PC gamer who gets Xbox titles Day 1 and can sail the high seas to circumvent the awful PSN requiremt to play PS games, I'm liking this generation so far

I think the thing that makes it feel like there arent as many games is tied to sequals. Whilst there are plenty of games. For a game to have its sequal u are looking at 5+ years nowdays.

my first encounter with 7th gen was with Bioshock, a game which really was a next gen title which would have been very difficult for the 6th gen console to reproduce fairly. now I look at 9th gen and many 9th gen games are released on 8th gen console but also the underpowered Switch. So im like why should i get a 9th gen console?

Too much realism is why this console generation sucks and is one of the reasons why i chose Nintendo Switch over PlayStation and Xbox and won’t be coming back.

I don't understand why people don't talk about price? (years on xbox) I spent 1300 on a MSI 1080p ultra graphics, high frame rate laptop. But only 1080 at ultra. (4060) There's not a lot of extra games on the pc, the Sony games on the pc I've played are ok but nothing game changing. The series s with the full Xbox game pass should be selling like hot cakes because of the price??? its all politics and moaning. Xbox should of won the gen but people too busy moaning. I really like my pc mind as I do other stuff as it a pc. I sold my series x and still have my series s under my tv. My m8 at the work bought a ps5 and after being on xbox for years was disappointed, he agreed with me, its just politics, the xbox is a better product for the price.

I object to the idea of removing games that play on PC. I'm a console gamer I understand that if I want to spend a couple grand most games will play better on PC and be open to things like mods but that isn't a reason to remove games. If I wanted to spend the money and time optimizing the settings for a PC I would have done that before this generation but I don't because i want to be able to plug it in and play that's what a console gets you at this point a cheaper simple solution.

Even that idea is dying. we have steam big picture now where you can set it to open at startup and dive right in to gaming. no tweaking settings or going into menus. games automatically detect your hardware and adjust accordingly. and the option to use almost any controller available on the market. I have both my dualsense and xbox controller hooked wirelessly to my PC. for PS games like returnal and FF7 remake I have my dualsense. for Halo or Starfield I have my xbox controller. All from the comfort of my recliner in my room and a 48 in. oled TV.

The problem is enthusiasts are over exposed to 24 hour gaming news. Everything leaks. There are no surprises. Detox from this shit. Gaming is better than ever. A lot of AAA sucks but who needs them. There are a million amazing indie games. Companies like Capcom and Nintendo have never been better.

Because people expected something that isnt yet possible with modern hardware in a console form factor? Everyone expected 4k 120FPS and mind blowing graphics and I'm sorry to tell you but we dont have that kind of hardware at this price point yet and most likely wont have it for atleast another 10-15 years.

Even though I generally do not like how most games play on the switch 😬. More to do with how performance and the controllers feel I think however.

What I appreciate the most this generation over last is the lack of load times. This alone, makes this generation of consoles worth the purchase to me.

Games consulting companies like Sweet Baby are destroying traditional game design. There aren't modern audiences, just modern creators who make games for themselves instead of the customers who purchase the games. Now studios are closing left and right.

Almost nothing in this video applies to Nintendo Switch.

I think people are expecting the same wonder they had when they were kids, in life this rarely happens

It is because the big game studios are creatively bankrupt. Nintendo is towing the line in addition to indie devs.

I can't imagine complaining about the number or quality of games coming out right now. The last few years have seen so many incredible games. I wish gamepass was a thing back on the 360 when I was in college and could only afford a few games per year.

Until console makers innovate, do things, new things that are a reason to secure a console. Think way outside the box. When a gamer looks at a device and says "I can't do this anywhere else" consoles will sell again.

Is easy to answer, developers trying to mix politics in a hobby that is a escape from reality, and before they say metal gear solid, the game is not about politics, is about patriotism and how warfare affects man, is about seeking peace but the game can never seek for an answer that doesnt involved conflict and shows that maybe humans will never fix their own problems because politics always find a way to put people against their own people or other cultures and countries.

I said before the release of this gen. They needed to wait a couple of more years. The mid-gen releases should have extended the generation length by a few years. Due to the pandemic, we are just getting back to normal schedules.

Why am I still playing on console instead of pc? I’m asking myself this more and more these days. Being in the Sony universe since 1998 means I’d be giving up a lot of software. So there’s that. PS5 feels like my last console gen.

I'm really enjoying Nintendo Switch. Everytime I bring it to a party where no one plays games, they end up enjoying it even more than I do. And my wife who has never played a game, loves watching me play Zelda and Animal Crossing and even Mario 3D World. I feel like it's not just mine it's for all of my family and friends to enjoy with me and I never feel isolated.

This is why i never upgraded. I don't see why you would other than 30 more fps.

I think the fact that we are still holding onto the prior gen is keeping innovation back.

I’ve been around for every single console refresh known to man and this is a first. New consoles aren’t selling well because they keep making games for the old systems, thus there is no incentives for billy Bob to pluck down cash for non existent system seller games.

Why buy PC for $2000 plus when I can buy a Xbox & PlayStation under 1k

I mean, because the pc will outlive the console. And is useful for more than just games.

Not exciting because just about all big name developers and publishers took all their IP’s into essentially money grubbing practices, which unfortunately as the Pandora’s box has been opened, is here to stay. 70% of the time, I game on the switch over anything else. I think the next Nintendo console may be my last to be honest. Getting too old and Nintendo is generally always reliable.

If you look at the Xbox 360 and remember Skyrim and GTA5, it's a big asset to development if they understand the architecture and technology base inside out and it shows in the game. Now games are rushed because a generation is 6 years and a game takes 3 to 9 years depending on ambitions. Tears of the kingdom and metroid prime 4 say it all being so late but just refined to death thanks to the mastery of the hardware......just in my opinion but the pattern is there If you look.

PC and Nintendo have gotten better while Sony and Microsoft have shit the bed. It's a pretty simple situation, really...

It's videos like this. Gamers are saying this Gen sucks. There's constantly videos like this. I feel like there aren't any real gamers anymore. I'm I the only one seriously playing games

Almost 4 years in and we still don't have a whole lot to point to that couldn't have been pulled-off last generation. And the push to get to 4K and 120fps and such has turned game development into a 7-8 year slog. The industry wasn't ready for this generation... and still isn't. And yet Metroid Prime 4 looks as good as anything on the bigger consoles running on 10 year old hardware. These new consoles have yet to justify their existence.

Destin don’t even start rationalizing this cross gen bs we’re still having to deal with. This is absolutely fkn ridiculous we’re still getting games releasing for hardware that was released 10 years ago!!!! If they stopped doing that then EVERYONE WOULD UPGRADE to series consoles and ps5 they wouldn’t have to worry about only selling to 20 million people instead of 300 million.

Too much money out there & if the consoles were truly unable to play those games, then they wouldn't make games for those consoles lol. Yall forget that game development takes on average 3-5 years pending size & scope. Besides, they discontinued Xbox One consoles several years ago. Idk if Sony discontinued the PS4, and if so, it was likely only last year.

@@atlien1988 that’s the whole point bro. They are still making games that run on those consoles, meaning are games are watered down versions of what they could be. We could literally have all games at the quality and graphics levels of games like Alan wake 2 and hellblade 2 and others if they would just stop trying to make them work on 10 year old hardware. Shit is ridiculous. I can understand a year or 2 at most after new consoles come out to make them cross gen but after that people need to upgrade or be left behind it’s as simple as that.

@@sneakkyz3696 That's a misconception because consoles are PCs now so they share roughly the same architecture. Because of that games are scalable. Your logic would have been true during the era of exotic custom chipsets but isn't anymore. Like Hellblade 2 will run on a GTX 1070. Ratchet runs on a RX 470. The truth is the PS5 and XB Series are really not that powerful since they are APU based X86 boxes.

💯 agree. 3rd party is killing it so far. We got Elden Ring, GTA6 and DBZ is around the corner, Black Myth, BG3, Stellar Blade, Hi-Fi Rush, Hell Divers 2, AW2, Perfect Dark, etc. We eating good.

I've been saying this since the previous generation. Both Microsoft and Sony aren't interested in the gamer experience. They want the easiest and fastest way to get more money out of you

People were getting banned for cussing out a kids that were calling everyone the N word. Even tho the games were rated M for mature. Ya know games not for kids. But even tho they had horrible parents that let them play those games those kids talked the most sh*t and got the most people banned even tho they started the little st battle. Little kids have ruined gaming end of story.
