the combination of their stellar post-production team, the fact that the product is best showcased with the exact kind of content people come to this channel to see, and that most of the ad has no pitch dialogue makes lightning in a bottle. I had a '99 2.5RS many years ago, I loved that thing. Sadly the transmission started to go on it, and I was a poor young man at the time and couldn't afford to replace the transmission, so it got sold to a guy that wanted to engine swap it. Hope that car is still going strong today.

Just thought I would fill in some blanks about the 22B. The paint code used is 74F and was called sonic blue as opposed to rally blue in North America under the same paint code. Though sharing the same paint code often these cars when sitting side by side, some slight differences can be noticed. The engine block is a bored out EJ20G from the version 1-2 WRX but the turbo is a VF24 from the version 4. The hood is aluminum and the original windshield glass is thinner to save weight which is the same on the Type R and RA. The steering wheel is made by Nardi and was found on version 1-3 WRXs and a few early version 4s. The 22B was made to commemorate 40 years of Subaru while the Type RA V-Limited models (numbered run of 555) were made to commemorate the third consecutive manufacturers win. These cars share some features with the 22B but come with the roof vent, V-Limited badging, and version 4 STi RA powertrain. It also seems as though some of the parts commonly found on the 22B may have been available as options at the dealer such as the hood vents. Sources: Have owned a couple 98 Type RA V-Limiteds and have done a lot of reading on the Type-RA website. & Smart people who have corrected me on some points in the comments below. ;)

Only know this tidbit because I bought a version 5 wheel as a spare thinking it was the same but turned out to be slightly different.

The video was great! A really great car with history. Driving cars that are legendary (like the clk gtr) would be a cool series.
I remember driving the 22B in the GT series of video games. It was epic then. The speed at which it moved thanks to the short gearing. The way it turned compared to a standard STI was shocking. Hearing you all talk about the rack being different makes sense. I know Subaru has done plenty of special models. But this model will be the most sought after for several years. Maybe it'll be the most sought after Subaru ever produced.
Pretty cool, I never heard of the 22B but I can see why they trade for such a premium. Iconic car, rare, meaningful, and brilliantly engineered without any input from accounting. Very cool.

I’ll probably never get to own one but it’s nice to know that I’ve got a few 22B parts on my RS (which I’ve owned since I bought it new off the lot in 2000). The rear wing, door sills, titanium fender badges, hood vents, and STI option Sport bumper which emulates the 22B/WRC bumper but for normal fenders. All of which were optional parts offered in Japan. The example in this video doesn’t have its original bumper either looks to be L’aunsport or Avis S6 replica. Not sure why the intake manifold is blue and the hood scoop is from the S201 (also an STI optional part) and the S201 is even more rare at just 300 units produced. My friend owns what I believe is the only S201 in the US and it’s located in Lancaster,CA.

@@Captaindan7141 how much are you asking? I’m not in the market, but curious. Post a link to the listing if there is one. ϟkål!
Dang bros, I didn't realize that right before our eyes Donut had gone from such humble beginnings to highly successful brand. It's been a ride, for sure. Congratulations to the Donut team, you guys have earned it. Keep up the good work.
I have a funny story about the 22B. I was at V 4&Rotary Auckland NZ and there was one in the show area. But after standing around the car and admiring it for ten minutes, I noticed it was going entirely, completely unnoticed. Nobody even knew it was special, didn't see a single person look at it twice. Fascinating that this car, at least in 2011 at that show, completely flew under the radar. Not saying the 22b isn't special, but it's interesting that it can fly under the radar as "another subie" like that. Perhaps, as this was in 2011 when boxer imprezas and legacy's were at their cheapest and most abundant and perhaps apathy toward subarus due to exposure of noise polluting loud subies in my countryman was why the subaru 22b went unnoticed that day.
ive dreamt about a 22b for so long. until i watched top gears special with hammond bringing the infamous bugeye and doing some unthinkable things. knowing i may never get my hands on a 22b the bugeye will do for sure
One of my favorite Japanese cars ever. Not gonna hate on the gold O.Z wheels but WHY WOULD YOU DEBADGE THE '22B' BADGE????

They are AUSTRALIAN, you bell end
That is also Bunta’s car (okay his is actually GC8F not GC8E/22B, but visually and performance are about the same) Which is also what Takumi drove after he blew 86’s engine.
This is a rare example of an ad being a good part of the video! well done!
Love it! What a great car, awesome to see an upclo0se look at this icon.,
I would never want to drive a car this rare and this special, because I wouldn't want to wreck it.
I’m getting one for the track days. Also congrats to Donut media, especially Justin for getting your wishlist come true. Peak Suburu moment 🎉

You're not getting a WRX for track days let alone a 22B.
I still remembered a lot about this 22B STi Impreza from TEST DRIVE 6 & GRAN TURISMO 2.
the history, the rarity, and the car itself; incredible.
Those iconic jdm cars go for insane costs now wow. Supras, gtrs, wrx sti and others

@hassyg4083 legitimately not true, that era was the best subaru boxers, the the 22b has Subaru's second most reliable 4 cylinder motor, only after the ej20g which the 22bs motor is just a bored out version of
