Why the World Is Still Fascinated with Astrology

Ойын-сауық

In the third episode of The Chosen Ones, host Gavin Haynes dives into the world of horoscope-obsessed astrologists based in his London hometown.
No matter how developed a society becomes, no matter how much they give rights to gays or develop nuclear fusion technologies, the idea of a future written in stars has been surprisingly potent to all sorts of people who are otherwise brain surgeons or lawyers or run F500 companies.
Gavin will put himself in the hands of lunar fixers, Indian Vedic astrologers, birth chart readers and whoever it is who writes the horoscopes in the Metro, to find out his personal destiny as a Scorpio and whether or not there is something we can all learn from astrology.

I used to be a professional astrologer. I used to do spooky accurate readings that even freaked me out. It actually started driving me crazy knowing that I was tangibly tapped into a modality that could illustrate the influences of causality. I eventually got out of it, because I determined that there was another force at work behind the wheelwork of astrology. There's this thing called Equinox Precession. The Earth has a microscopic backwards rotation (at a rate of ~1/72 degreee per year). Tropical astrology hasn't compensated for Equinox Precession in over 2000 years. This means that the stars you see in the sky are out of sync with a natal chart by an astonishing 23.5 degrees retrograde! And yet, despite this astrology still works as a divinational tool. The reason astrology works is because we believe it works. Through a combination of ritual magic, and the power of the human consciousness, we've given life to astrology. The fields of psionics and sympathetic vibrational physics indicate that you can change reality if you get enough people giving their psychic energy to a concept over a long period of time.

  • @lihtan

    @lihtan

You're absolutely correct. It's interesting to see my comment from 5 years ago. I had to take a break from astrology, as it had become an unhealthy obsession for me. I've since gotten back into it, and I have a better understanding of the mechanics now. Western Tropical astrology is tied to the seasons (with the Equinox point always being at 0º Aries). Vedic astrology is a Sidereal system which uses the actual position of celestial objects. I see them as complementary systems that work like lenses for interpreting the influences on humanity's collective psyche. I no longer think of astrology as an egregore, but instead as a demonstration of the Hermetic Law of Correspondence (As above, so below) in action. Someone recently pointed out that retrograde planetary motion is technically an optical illusion. While that is true, The Law of Correspondence doesn't care! I've also been looking into the concept that our world is a simulation. It's quite possible that astrology is one of the coding mechanisms for orchestrating our reality.

Lol god damn you people need to realize you are following astrology strictly based on faith alone. There aren't any facts. You might as well believe that god created the Earth in seven days(yep, our special snowflake Earth where there are literally none others in the ENTIRE universe /s) You aren't a special snowflake. I have a strong suspicion you are trolling but still feel the need to spread my opinion. Notice I said opinion. And you know, that's really the biggest problem with faith. It's all a matter of opinion, yet people with faith think of their religion as fact. I see a problem here. Everyone who follows religion, be it Islam, Christianity.. Judaism... they all believe that their faith is a fact. Can so many people really be so full of themselves and think they're correct and not see the hypocrisy in saying other religions or beliefs are not right, when clearly it is so *opinion* based? Everyone is biased, period, whether you think so or not. Which is why I'm perfectly content in believing what I can see with my own two eyes, bar none.

The interviewer can be unbiased/biased it doesn't matter, in fact it's better the more bias the journalist is towards being skeptical and playing devil's advocate because it's not his job to provide the proof or truth in astrology. It's the astrologists job. The journalist is there to challenge that question and hold their feet to the fire. There is no "neutral" view in science (the best tool we have to learn and discover truth in our world). I'm sure there are better 'astrologists' and psychics and cold readers. It's definitely a skill. Which therein immediately is a major red flag. There's no person "best" at demonstrating gravity. It's very black and white. You follow where evidence points to. If you don't like where it point, too bad. At that point you care more about what you want to believe than the truth.

Something that I think about in regards to astrology- Ancient man must have spent a lot of time looking up to the Stars searching for meaning. Possibly influenced by psychedelics, man projects images into the Stars which reflect aspects of the psyche. These images are imbued with characteristics ascribed by man. Over time a relationship is cultivated between man's internal and external worlds. The world of images which man has projected onto his environment shape him. Over many thousands of years the meanings of the Stars are living legends, archetypes within the collective psyche which rise to the surface of given individuals based upon synchronicity in birth.

I've studied Astrology(Western) for a few years and it is very interesting, mostly because of how accurate it often is, I think that's the main reason people are so fascinated by it. I've always been skeptical about things relating to religion and spirituality, but in contrast blindly disregarding something because its not "scientifically relevant" is foolish. I've always tried to disprove things as much as I could and prove them as much as I could, spirituality and religion hold some of the best understandings ive come across. Astrology has taught me a lot about the inclinations of people, certain energies/moods people go through and what the benefits/drawbacks of them are. It has shown me a lot valuable information about the nature of math and seasons.

Sound examples? Such as? Can you at least explain what they say about how the position of a distant planet influences a human brain? Is it light? Nope. Gravity? Nah, the gravity of the doctor, the mom and other people around a newborn baby is much greater than for example Mars. Neutrinos? No, the sun and earth influence human beings vastly more than extrasolar stars and other planets, yet astrology ignores those. You have obviously never heard of the inverse square law either. That alone debunks everything astrology claims. The actual positions of celestial bodies as seen from the earth are about as significant as the location of the hospital you were born in. Not at all. People with the same "sign" are only similar in the most vague and generalized terms that apply to all people. If it did work, astrology could make predictions. Do you have an example of how astrologers predicted something in the way that for example quantum mechanics predicted the Higgs boson or that Mendeleev predicted the properties of atomic elements that had yet to be discovered? No, because it's as scientific as creationism. Science supersedes pseudoscience. Astrology sees a comet and says it's a bad omen and that people will die or some shit. Astronomy sees a comet, takes measurements, spectroscopic images, tries to predict its movement with calculations. Astrology is a cheap appeal to the emotion of dumb people, astronomy is the interrogation of reality to find out how things actually work regardless of human feelings. Constellations aren't real patterns in space, they are a coincidental 2d image of stars at different distances and with different apparent magnitudes in 4d space. Some are further from us, but brighter. Others are close but dim. The reason they appear to be patterns is that they seem close together from the closed minded perspective of the earth, but they move relative to each other too. It's not like a constellation is a unit. That is why the constellations change. There are no "both sides" to the story because there are zero valid scientific hypotheses about astrology. You blindly believe it a priori without paying attention to any real arguments. If you had an argument and understood it well enough to substantiate it, you wouldn't have to refer to someone else to make your point for you.

Why not actually interview some of the worlds most reputable astrologers who never get any media attention at all instead of these cornflakes? Maybe it's because they tend to make everyone really uncomfortable by how they don't fit any of these stereotypes.

To: Timothy Halloran. "Reputable astrologers" do not exist, unless you are talking about historians who have tracked the history of astrology over human history. Every single person who claims to be a "true astrologer" ALWAYS uses vague meanings, common emotions, and broad sweeping statements which can be applied to almost every living human. The day an astrologer tells me which name my daughter uses to name her children, in which hospital they will be born at, and the doctors name (years in advance)... then,.. then, I will look to astrology with some intrigue. There have been no peer-reviewed, scientific studies conducted which have concluded that star positions predict/influence/determine human interactions. None. I highly urge anyone interested to do their own research into these studies, or better yet, conduct their own studies and submit them the scientific community. If one study was conducted which concluded that it was possible, it would be a HUGE finding in science and most likely win a Nobel Prize (and the money that comes with it).

Even Darwin said it might not be evolution but aliens. When you consider gravitational waves emitted from our star and how these waves will differ at certain times of the revolution of that star then astrology is possible. When you consider the gravitational effect of a fetus in a mothers womb and our brain is developed under that gravity, certain brains born in that month may possess certain similarities

Proper astrology looks at flaws as well, it's meant to understand someone full personality since we can't always see/admit our fault so it can help watch out for pitfalls. Call it stupid, but I feel better prepared at dealing with people because I feel like I can expect certain kinds of behavior. Hasn't let me down so far. For me, it's just a study into psychology.

It's weird. So much of my family is into all this. I really just think it's desparately trying to look for a message in life instead of just living it. The reason it makes no sense is people are trying to order stuff that is really completely random and meaningless, but they can't accept that fact. My advice is to accept how random and meaningless it may all be and just make decisions using what logic and reason we do have.

Astronomy is the scientific study of the universe, while Astrology is the belief that random events in space bare an inexplainable affect on the petty squabbles of human affairs. There's no connection between these entirely different topics as Astronomy is a fact-based science, while Astrology is nothing more than a mystical construct.

Everything is connected. The cells in our bodies and the planets around us. As above, so below. As within, so without. Astrology is neither true or false, each individual will get the reflection from the world by what he believes to be true (or false). I have found astrology to be a great tool for learning about myself and life. Just because something doesn't resonate with you, don't make it an absolute truth. Love ya'll
