Season 2! My first thought at the end was ‘we were played’! The show totally got us wrapped into who are the ONES that die. Then the show dropped/showed/insinuated so many possibilities, I was CONVINCED there would be more than one death and that Tanya was not one of them. Yes, going back, there are many clues. But then ‘how can this continue w/o her’ mentality grew stronger (that came from the love we have for her & media telling us so), PLAYED! Great season. Agree on all points. The music is a character in both seasons, great choices of ambiance and songs. “The best things in life are FREE!”

Season 2 might have some of the best characterisation I have seen in any show and I'm glad they didn't have big plot twists and reveals, everything was subtle and amazingly executed. The cast was amazing and the plot easily overshadowed season 1

Well considering the back of the boat had steps that you could go down to make it easier to get in the dingy (buoy), leaning over a rail that’s about 7ft+ above the boat she was trying to get in. Think her death could been alot more creative. I won’t even mention the ladder. Sad and but we all saw that coming.

  • @Komore_bi

    @Komore_bi

@@SAYBOW69 i think it works because in the moment she’s shocked and scared and very confused, and so she’s not thinking rationally. Of course going down the ladder and swimming to the dingy would be much safer and just the better option, but she’s not thinking straight and just wants to get off the boat as fast as possible. I didn’t feel like her death was lazy writing but I respect your opinion!

A lot of Greg's behaviour earlier on in the season makes sense. Namely, how annoyed he was when Tanya invited Portia along, since she wasn't part of the plan, and it would be easier to kill Tanya without her assistant around.

Small thing I see overlooked, how the guys came to Italy to "get in touch with italian roots" classic americanoitaliano stuff right, but they try and essentially face a wall of women who just say fuck off, I think it's super funny considering how their idea of Italy comes from the male fantasy-esque Godfather, explained by the son in like episode 1.

There’s a certain level of respect that was lost the moment they leaned on other people for confidence or validation they don’t get from eachother. They got passion they only got from no longer worrying if the other person was telling the truth or not. Because they no longer cared. And being worried about cheating is normal in a relationship, but it’s like there’s no more worrying. I feel like they didn’t have much of a spark in the first place and I feel like this storyline couldn’t have worked with a couple that was madly in love.

@@pinkblossoms It's never about respect, it's about trust. The whole season was toying with the mythology of the "happy marriage" and how it must be built on fidelity and truths. Then it went on a huge arc involving multiple families to show us that in the end happiness is not about any of that, it's about acceptance. Harper and Ethan "fixed" their catastrophic marriage literally by each having an affair and reigniting jealousy for each other. They literally found happiness and spark by imitating the other couple they utterly despised at the start. This entire show is, to me, an ultra pessimistic and sometimes even nihilistic view on humanity and relationships. In the end, people from different social backgrounds weren't able to break out of their molds and instead accepted their predicaments and found peace. The men (even Albie the white knight) didn't find redemption in moral character, they effectively reinforced their prejudices and indulged in fantasies. Dominic his father basically spent 50k and "bought" back his family, and Albie was compliant to receive a bribe out of his own obsession and naivete. In the end, nobody received enlightenment through their ordeals. They just found methods to cope and carry on. It may all seem like a romantic escapism out in some beautiful resort, but the message is just bleak and realistic and unsentimental.

I have a theory that Harper and Cameron never kissed. No, think about it: the show never shows us the scene so that we all have to decide for ourselves whether she’s telling the truth or not and that’s really what settled it for me. I think Harper still loved Ethan and was still attracted to him but started to notice him slipping in his attraction to her so in order to save her marriage she realized in Noto that what Daphne and Cameron were doing was working to a certain degree. She needed to spark jealousy and intrigue into her relationship to get the spark back. So she planted the idea by just talking to Cameron which is weird enough cause both Ethan and the audience knows that she kinda hates him. Then she goes back to her room at the same time as Cameron knowing full well that Ethan would find that suspicious and then locked the door extra hard and act all weird and gaslight him when he asks what’s going on. And then finally when he can’t take it anymore and demands an explanation she feeds him some bullshit story that she knows will drive him insane. And then if you really look at Cameron during their fight in the water he seems genuinely taken aback. And Harper’s plan works, her marriage is saved.

For me that gave it away that the murder plot wasn’t going to happen, however with White Lotus nothing is ever as it seems, but in this case it was, even when Tanya killed herself by accident. Best show I have seen in a really long time. This season finale was very satisfying for me. The way Ethan and Harper's relationship got torn apart just to be rebuilt was fun, intriguing, and complex, it kept me guessing. All in all though, I think the themes on season 1 were presented much more tightly. The destruction in the path of the guests and the effect they had on the locals was at the heart of every episode and storyline; however, I found that finale to be rather uninteresting. It seemed to be building up to some big shock that was gonna bring all the characters together. It didn't. It didn't have to, but I wish it had. This time, all arcs ended fittingly. I do wish the storylines had been more entangled than they were, but it doesn't really take from the overall quality of the season.

  • @Random___________

I don’t think the relationship got rebuilt. I think they became exactly like what they criticized the most - Daphne and Cameron. At the end it shows how cam and daph are hugging at the airport and they 2 are hugging the same. And this exactly after they both cheated. It just implements that dan and daph are so romantic towards each other bc they keep cheating and that harper and ethan are ending up the same.

I remember seeing the ad for this show on the background of the HBO home screen. I was intrigued because of Michael Imperioli and Aubrey Plaza. So, I began watching. I didn't know it was 2 seasons in, so I was surprised to see a different cast on season 1 from the ad I saw. I was into it by episode 2, and had to get my wife in on it too, so I started the season over to watch with her. After the season ended, and having grown attached to the cast, I thought I would have a hard time adapting to a new cast for the next season. But, it took half an episode and I was hooked on the new cast. Then I hoped that I didn't start loving a show that already got cancelled, but to my surprise it wasn't. So glad to hear it's popular enough for another season. I wasn't aware Ned Schneebly wrote it, haha. What a great writer and what a great show. It's a breath of fresh air from what Hollywood has been producing the last few years. It has a message, but isn't heavy-handed. And it's so well-balanced that you don't get a sense it's preaching anything to you, just telling a good story. I can't wait until season 3.

Honestly Season 2 was way better than Season 1 because Season 2 dived deep into the characters relationships, insecurities, and even their wants and desires when it came to the themes of love, power, and money. Season 1 was more of a political comedic satire that talked about the colonialism of an oppressed group (Hawaiian/indigenous people) and the ongoing mistreatment and unfair wages that the oppressed group goes through when dealing with the rich or the people that have power and wealth to take their land while making profits from said land.

The nice thing about season not necessarily following the story line means season 3 can be set in the past and have tanya maybe even going in a vacation with her mother, exploring more how she became how she is.

s1 followed the theme of money, s2 of sex, and s3 was revealed to follow the theme of religion and death in an eastern setting so guessing it will be an asian country

It's rare to get an ending right but they wrapped it up perfect. I was thinking the best ending death reveal would either be tradegy with tanya dieing or a heroic ending with Tanya killing the uncle trying to kill her. And it ended up being both combined 4:00 the head breaking would be symbolic of the curse ending and them moving on. But considering the guy probably got it on with the freckled woman in response & the airport scene, it seems theyre actually playing a game distracting themselves with intimacy just like the other couple are doing , both couples are shown together at the airport like this (I think reflecting their relationship has become the same warped game playing) The show explores complex human interactions really well . written so good with all the possibilities to keep you guessing & engaged from the starting setup And the soundtrack novelty was there again fit so good What a holiday

You got the legend of the Testa di Moro wrong, it's the Man who had a wife that took advantage of a young girl, so she took his head and made a vase out of it. An ancient legend tells that around the year 1100, during the period of the arab domination in Sicily, in the Kalsa district of Palermo, lived “a beautiful girl with a rosy skin comparable to peach blossoms at the height of flowering and a nice pair of eyes that seemed to reflect the beautiful Gulf of Palermo “. The girl was almost always at home, and spent her days looking after the plants on her balcony. One day a young Moro found himself passing by, and as soon as he saw her, he immediately fell in love with her and decided to have her at all costs. Then without delay he entered the girl’s house and immediately declared his love. The girl, struck by so much ardor, returned the love of the young Moro, but soon her happiness vanished as soon as she learned that her beloved would soon leave her to return to the East, where a wife with two sons where waiting for him. So it was that the girl waited for the night and as soon as Moro fell asleep he killed him and then cut off his head. He made a vase out of the Moro’s head where he planted some basil and put it on display outside on the balcony. The Moor, in this way, unable to leave, would have remained with her forever. Meanwhile, the basil grew luxuriantly and aroused the envy of all the inhabitants of the neighborhood who, in order not to be outdone, had specially built terra-cotta pots in the shape of a Moor’s Head. Even today in the Sicilian balconies you can admire Teste di Moro, often called “Teste di Turco” of exquisite workmanship, a nice warning for all husbands!

I loved the dark comedy of Season One and how the staff of the White Lotus hated their elitist guests so much. It was so much fun to watch. But I think Season Two was so much better. The cast was great and the stories were darker. It's different to have a show where characters change each season. I wish we didn't have to wait so long for Season Three. It's improving more and more and the plot had more complexity Season Two.

I feel like I didn't watch the same show as everyone else. Felt like this season was meandering, gimmicky, humorless with a very thin plot. Promising storylines all fizzled out at the halfway mark. Tanya's grand finale was entertaining and arguably the highlight but it also felt like a totally different show far removed from everything else. Perhaps my expectations were too high but season one was such a pleasant surprise that I was so excited for this season. Maybe for round 3 I'll temper my enthusiasm.

Season 2 was leaps and bounds better than Season 1. It even got me theorizing on what would happen in the end ala Game of Thrones. I was a tad bit disappointed with the ending, I really wanted more guests dead, but after rewatching the last episode I guess it ended the way the writer wanted it to end and I was just overthinking the whole thing.I love the symbolisms embedded in this show, just the thought process behind it is something I really appreciated.

I love your comment about not being disappointed when the camera shifts to another storyline. In ensemble casts where multiple storylines are standard there is typically one that is just not as intriguing as the rest or whose main character is just not as liked. You were correct that really never happens here. Its hard to achieve that. It requires great plots, writing and acting to pull that off.

I dont think Jack was ever going to kill portia. I think his job was to drive her to the airport like he did or more likely drive her back to to Taormina once tanya was gone. thats why greg was so mad that portia was there - it hurt his plan somewhat.
