why the truck fan so loud?
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
this video explains why a poorly adjusted fan clutch will make the fan so loud.
When the new fan clutch is prewinded too tight, it just need a little heat to open the internal valve to fill the internal space between the shaft plate and the clutch housing. That will increase the fan's relative speed compared to the engine, and the faster the fan runs, the louder it gets.

Yes, a brand new one can do this. Had the same issue on 17 ram 1500. Returned and replaced, and it fixed my problem.
My Fan won't free spin but it's not locked up either after sitting cold for a few days. My issue is, it gets a tad too warm or hot, above 210° the 1/2 way mark on my gauge when towing a small trailer. I can see coolant flowing through the radiator fins with the cap off, so the pump is working & the fan never stops sucking air or stops. It doesn't make any noises either like a jet engine. I have a 4.3 vortex in my 02 Blazer ZR2. It runs at 195° then I can see the temp drop as the thermostat opens but, the longer I drive it, the warmer it gets. It never holds at 195° unless outside temp is below 85° It will get up to 210° then I shut off my ac & it drops a little in temp. Just less than 210° I've flushed the heck out of it but the Radiator is fairly new & I installed another thermostat, Concentrate coolant w/ distilled water & it runs a bit cooler without towing now but. When I'm towing this small 5x9' heavy homemade trailer in temps below 80° outside? It does fine. Above 85-95°? It gets hotter & hotter if I continue to drive it. I'm curious if my fan is shot.
I just bought a truck with that problem but it seems that the previous owner new about it cuz the truck has a new fan clutch but i gues it didn't fix the problem any suggestions will be appreciated
There are standard clutches and severe duty clutches. The severe clutches move more air so they are louder. I bought the severe one because I'm in Arizona. I turn heads when driving through neighborhoods because it sounds like a wind tunnel. I might get a standard one.
You mentioned that the spring can be turned counter clockwise to increase the affect of the movement or less friction while the engine's heating up. Now you showed where turning counter clock wise will turn center screw some. DOES the spring need to be returned into that locked looking position. You didn't explain where the spring ends up, I am assuming one can only be adjusted to increase the free movement or in affect, less friction, correct ? Does spring need to be returned into that locked spot ? thank you

I believe the spring tension is calibrated and preset in the factory. You wo t be able to adjust the spring manually. Just get a new one is much easier.
Man ty for explaining that in the detail you did. Very good explanation. I am grateful for it!
This just happened to me with my 2001 dodge ram 1500 but it also happened to my brothers Chevrolet suburban
Wonder if if can adjust mine it was newly replaced within 6 months?

You should try to get a new one through warranty first. I think it is very hard to adjust by yourself. You can try to play around with the spring winding in tue center. Good luck.

I have this problem, but cant just replace the fan clutch as its a clutch water pump assembly, they don't come apart easily, and the spring is all the way clockwise cant go any farther.

It's easy to separate the clutch from the water pump. They make a tool for it. Turn it counter clockwise to remove.

@@Barret_Radtke I just looked up a Nissan 720. It seems that the clutch and water pump don't come apart at all. There's not even a clutch sold separately. Not that I could find, anyways. When you wrote "they don't come apart easily" that lead me to believe the clutch was actually replaceable. That would suck if a clutch went out on a 720 but not the water pump because you'd have to replace the water pump.

@@erikthered7422 i think you can find the clutch separately but it costs just as much as the whole assembly. i am just going to go with a water pump from a 70s 620 it doesn't have the clutch built in and i can use the pully and fan from an 85 i have.
Came across this as i just replaced my clutch fan in my 2017 Ram 1500 5.7 liter and the new one is loud. Sounds like a jet engine. Im down for projects so if you know how to adjust these, im willing to gamble.

2014 Ram 1500 5.7 hemi v8 ..... i had replace my water pump i bought the pump and fan clutch as a kit bought the duralast kit from Autozone 2 months ago and had to replace the fan clutch cause it was staying engaged it sounded like a jet engine in the cabin of my truck and it cause poor/sluggish acceleration cause it was pulling so much power from the engine i was advised by the mechanic that worked on my truck to replace the fan clutch with mopar clutch instead of aftermarket one's apparently this has been a common issue with aftermarket clutches according the mechanic he's had several vehicles having the same issue with aftermarket clutches my truck is fixed now after going back with mopar clutch...... i would advise going with mopar instead of aftermarket
Its absolutely annoying and it seems to loose a bit of power taking off

Totally agree. Mines doing that right now. Feels sluggish on take off. Drives me insane.
So if you buy a new one it can be a bad one

If his fan is loud, it's working. Providing more cooling. Tell him to get the karen, little man upgrade.
