Why: The State is an Individual Writ Large [THE MOST IMPORTANT VIDEO YOU NEED TO SEE ON YOUTUBE]

Plato's most famous works: LAWS, REPUBLIC & STATESMAN
Plato's ideal state is simplified as follows:
-An ideal/perfect state should be an aristocracy which should have 3 classes of people:
✔Guardian Class(Rulers)
-Were to be unmarried and live a communal life and not own property.
✔Auxilliary Class (Military)
-Not highly educated as the guardian class but knowledgeable through training.
✔Commoners/Producers(Farmers/Artisans)
-Purely focus on serving the state by providing food and any other required services.
The three classes correspond to the three elements of human nature:
(1)Appetitive (2)Philosophic (3)Spirited
CRITICISM:
-He limited an individual's freedom in society.
-He favoured paternalism by rulers i.e that governments may restrict the choices of individual citizens for their own good.
-His advocacy for abolition of a natural family structure was unjustified.
