Everyone forgets that a passport IS ALREADY A VALID FEDERAL ID

Not everybody has a passport or wants one or carry that around a passport instead of a credit card-sized ID that you can keep in your wallet. And it makes more sense to get the Enhanced License vs the REAL ID. If you get the EL, it simultaneously proves that you're a US citizen and a valid driver's license. EL makes total sense and better than carrying around a passport. EL is in your wallet. Can't get any more convenient.

All drivers licenses and official id's are already government issued, so why do you have to go through all these hoops just to get another gov issued ID? You have to prove you are who you say you are at the time to get it right? My state has always required proof of residency and birth certificate as initial forms to get your driver's license.

You have to prove that you're a US citizen. It makes it easier to distinguish who is and isn't a US citizen. That's why there is such a pushback by the left and this biden administration is hindering its implementation. I've been a US citizen my entire life and last time I went to renew my DL I had to get a regular one. I was unable to supply all the necessary papers/proof and that's not going to change any time soon. If this is ever fully implemented it will create a lower class of citizens who were born and raised here but can't get this special form of ID. Ridiculous and overreaching. 😢🤔🤓🍻

I don't understand why I should have to jump through extra hoops when I can trace my ancestry back to the Hatfields on my dad's side and supposedly back to original settlers in New England on my mother's. What are homeless people supposed to do when it becomes necessary for everything. Proof of residence was my biggest hurdle. That would be impossible for a homeless person. Like I said it is going to end up creating a second class of citizens whose rights and lifestyle are severely restricted. 😢🤓🍻

Not shocked. I actually came into the DMV with all the paperwork I needed to get one, but because of the lines was unable to get one. I had to settle for renewing online. Luckily I have a passport, so it wasn't a huge deal, but I was hoping not to have to carry my passport for domestic travel.

Yes I've been using the passport card for the "REAL-ID" component for domestic air travel at least six years without even realizing it wasn't required. 😂 Finally noticed when they had signboards about the due date for 2023 put up in airports in 2021.

U are probably from some small place so u think is easy but in big cities like Chicago u wait 4 hours in line just to ask question. The DMV asks you for two forms of proof of residency: One of which is a copy of your vehicle registration, which, God Bless America, THEY ALREADY HAVE, and you can't use your own issued DMV drivers license, which their own copy of their own vehicle registration they issued to you confirms. That's incorrect. There is no SSN on the REAL ID or the Enhanced License. It proves that you're a US citizen and if you get the Enhanced License instead of the REAL ID, the EL serves as both the REAL ID and a valid driver's license. Instead of carrying around a passport, you can conveniently just show your EL like you'd show your driver's license.

All I can say is that Francesca Sample definitely doesn't weigh 125 lbs.

Real id does absolutely nothing. Here in Jersey we have had it for yrs. But if you go to motor vehicles you still have to bring a birth certificate, social security card and mail with your name and address on it. Real id was supposed to be the only thing you were going to need. At least that's what they said. 🙄

Don't get remarried unless you are positive you have ALL of the paperwork. 1st marriage license & divorce or death certificate then 2nd marriage license plus the rest of the list.

Your state ID card or Driver's License should be enough 'legal' id for anything. Why not? It always has been and correctly so. And even if it's not and something more is yet needed, you mean to tell me that our states cannot correlate? It all acts like we're back in 1992 or something instead of the year 2023 [in a few days] in the 21st century. I couldn't care less about it all. And if they need me in the Federal Courthouse or something, then they'll either make do without me or make reparations. I'm so sick of it. I don't even get 'paper' statements for anything like electric bills, anymore. So, wow, no more proof of physical residency. I'm just S.O.L. aren't I.

There was a time as recent as 2006 where the only thing an American needed to travel to Mexico, Canada, or fly anywhere within the United States was a standard drivers license. Not a passport. Not a blah blah blah acronym government card. Just a drivers license.

I will not bother with this until my DL expires. I already have 2 passports. I wouldnt set foot in an airport without proof im a citizen. I have never flown anywhere without a passport. Its fine. Its objectively fine. Just make passports a flight requirement for fucks sake.

Not all still are. The feds are still insistent that EID's aren't enough to be compliant but Washington State still won't issue realID's by themselves; I hate the act anyways so the more delayed it is the better. Also in some States DL's last 8 years.

They take your biometrics from you id pic and enter it into a national database. So in a few years when you j-walk the camera can detect your face and deduct funds from your account and social credit score. 🫶🏽

A driver's license with a golden star means that it's you. A driver's license without a golden star means that it might not be you and it could be anybody.

Total bull I got mine last year with no problem. The reason is because the illegal immigrants that use their warrant paperwork won't be able to fly

If you want to want to travel with in the US but didnt get a chance to upgrade your driver's license to a deal ID one, you can use your passport.

What sucks is I did mine through the mail while ago and my new standard state ID now comes with federally restrictions apply so now it's going to literally say you're restricted by federal law if you don't get it a new ID slash real ID. 🤫😎
