This makes me feel so good, since I have one! Those in the know really do know! Unbelievably brilliant car. The naysayers simply don’t know what they’re talking about. They haven’t had one.

How true is you comment! I wanted to get one, everyone was “nay”, now that I have it and they see it everybody wants to try it and they look at it with “envy”. I mean its not a super car but it’s the closest to that you can buy with the money it costs.

My uncle have a 986 s tiptronic that I have wanted since I was like 5 years old. The first thing he did when I got my license was to let me borrow it for the weekend and all he said was ”have fun but be careful”. I drove that car all weekend practically nonstop. I was IN LOVE with that car. Now not even one year later he tells me it’s for sale. He has got it valued at 18k but I can buy it for 15k. I will very soon be a Porsche owner:)

As a 15 years on track day goer ... don't get carried away. I've done it too many times now and always regretted it in the end as more you gonna make it work for track , less is going to be drivable on the road and used less in general. Coilovers , good buckets that are comfy for the road , lsd , decent geometry , tyres , fluids , pads and thats about it. Forget about stripping it put unless you're gonna compete in some sort of series . All the best 👍

Ahh, KZread needs people like Douglas, thanks Charlie. We know there are so many people on here who have not got a clue. These people tend to like to hear themselves talk. I think there is a huge space for real experts like Douglas. Well done Charlie, real videos and real opinions. I’m just about to buy a 987s. Thanks Douglas for you points - I know these were for 986 but still give lots of insight

I bought mine a little over a year ago and straight away changed coils and plugs, rad cap, fuel cap, battery. Got a ignition switch, light switch. I then changed the water pump and stat and now looking at suspension parts. None of these were causing issues but maybe would in the future. One bit at a time is my plan.

Have just picked up a 986 after nearly 20 years of non Porsche ownership......last one was air cooled. Your thought process seems logical to me. Start with the key organs and connecting lines of the beast and save the fun parts when you have a better guess of what is on your tarmac.

I have the 2.7 love it , one of the best cars I’ve owned. I was lucky my one had one owner from new looked after from day one. Just regular oil changes recommended.

I need a Porsche in my life.

Been trying with either a Civic Type R FN2 or a Boxster. Just the sense of presence of the Boxster stirs my innards and just seems ideal for me. Single no kids no requirement for a big boot. And love a B road blast.. its leading in my heart. Just got to convince my head.

I have one, well it's the 987, luckily it's in good condition having done only 32,000 miles, I bought it a couple of years ago with just 29,000 miles...just the basic 2.7 with the 5 speed manual box..I love it..didn't pay much, got a bargain I think, sits in the garage mostly but gets out in nice sunny days...good luck with the Porsche, I watched you guys fit the new engine, your brother in law is quite a guy ...all the best to all... Yeah I would keep it stock-ish, maybe change the lights for visibility reasons...in ten more years a stock well-maintained Boxster S will be more desirable. But then I have a shite-condition 944t so maybe I’m a weirdo.

acchaladka I own a 2001 Boxster S and I really love it. I like to keep it stock as possible, considering that it will have a higher resale value in the future also. It is immaculate inside and out black interior, Arctic silver paint. It only has 82,000 miles on it. Replaced all four tires, brakes, air oil separator, oil every 5000 miles and only added black decals on the bottom sides.

The stock lights are just fine and do not need to be changed for visibility reasons.

Would be great if there was a pre purchase checklist to help novices.

Dont get too grippy trires ! Or you will loose an engine again due to oil starvation.

Best comment ever, these engines are pretty good but mine blew up 😂 and also loads of other people's have, talk about in the grip of Porsche hysteria
