The memory card is one of the (many) biggest blunders they’ve made. That is probably the de facto reason it didn’t sell well. The worse thing is you could see the potential. There were a few PS2 games ported like GoW and Ratchet and Clank. Imagine getting more ported like RE4. There’s also the fact that it was at the time, still the only ‘console’ like handheld. I could see that if it sold well, there would have been a third iteration or a new handheld to compete with the switch. Considering that the psp had tv output way back in the 2000s.

Yeah, it's so unfortunate how decisions like that had such a big impact in holding it back. Even nowadays, with handhelds on the return, I feel like this size and formfactor would still make a great fit for something truly portable (like a supercharged gaming phone). Actually, the first Vita also had a 3G model, so technically it was also a gaming phone...

The 1000 Oled version of the PSVita also has hall effect sticks. So no stick drift.

Still play it all the time. So much better than the Switch. Its a shame SONY always abandons new tech...PS Vita, PSVR 1 and 2...damn criminal.

Looking at the sales numbers I'm not surprised at the time. Was kinda hoping for them to revive the PSP-PSVita lineup now that the Steamdeck has made a new category of handhelds, but it seems like they only want to stick with a PS5 looking Wii-U controller

The Vita has party chat, folders, themes, hall effect joysticks, remote play, OLED screen and it came out in 2011? All features the original switch didn't have and the OLED switch still doesn't have except the OLED display.

@PostmaOne Yup. And I love the Switch, but it's insane how far ahead of it's time the Vita was. It's definitely my favorite handheld of all time.

Still play mine quite regularly. Mainly because of its size and the controls!!! The dpad feels soo good. Plays alot of emulators and u can still unlock trophies for it which is fun :). Mod it though for sure, makes it a million times better.

Yup, it's not just the bumper buttons, but also the top buttons just feel nice to use. I am curious what the steamdeck is like, but I have a suspicion that it will be just a tad too large. Wish someone would take this form factor and throw new internals in it, because the size is just right. I've already done the jailbreak in Overtime, and will be posting a follow up video in the future of my experience. Are there any other mods you'd recommend?

I have like 21 vita 1000 and 4 2000 working on 5 and 6. OG colors then mix and match like my profile pic . Limited editions. And then like persona 4 and miku screen protector and others. It’s seriously an addiction lol.

There’s the usb c mod you can do. Only if you need to though if your port is fine don’t mess with it lol. There’s other mods you can do with memory cards using 3g port and so on.

I used to have a PSVita in like 2014-2015 the game I remember playing is (sonic all star racing transformer)

I sadly never got a chance to play with a VIta, but I remember having a psp go! Loved the video!! Keep it up :)

Yup, especially also with its size. I sorta touched on how good it feels to hold, etc. However, I didn't really mention that I feel its so much better sized for a "pocketable game console" than something like the Steamdeck or ROG Ally, or even the Switch. Would be quite interesting if someone tossed some updated internals into this form factor

I can imagine, sometimes we have to make hard sacrifices. Maybe you'll be able to find a cheap second-hand one of these days. I think they're still in the sweet zone of being old enough that people want to clear them out, but still young enough to not be a classic just yet.

As far as i know Nds number is combine with 3ds, which should be wrong. 3ds can play Nds (backward compatible) but not the other way around. Imagine if ps1 & 2 number is combined 🤨

The NDS sales are a combination of the DS Family, however those only include the DS, DS Lite, DSi and DSi XL (www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/library/historical_data/pdf/consolidated_sales_e1603.pdf) The 3DS was apparently seen by Nintendo as a completely separate line of handhelds, even though I think it seemed like just another DS to most. Then again their Wii U at the time also just seemed to most like only a new controller to the Wii instead of a full console.

I lived in the era of Gameboys and Flim Flams back then we didn't have this stuff so it didn't phase us at all, now if we threw away our technology sure people would go nuts for a bit because it's an addiction but I could do it if MrBeast paid me lol. EDIT: I also had Double A batteries in my pocket and when DS came out, I had my GB/GBA/DS in one suitcase!

I love my vita after i modded it and play games I didn’t have, geez imagine not doing it😂

The marketting was a big downfall fpr the Vita and the proprietary memory cards that were pretty much mandatory. I only recently bought a vita again modded it and love it now it reignited that flame I had from when I got one originally around launch.

Well if this doesn't make me play on my Vita again, probably never will. Is kind of a shame that it feel so heavy on my hands and that affects any desire to play I have :'( But please we need an update withthe Vita unlocked, theres lots of stuff you can do with it

Interesting take, my Vita weighs less than my cell phone and is far, FAR more comfortable to hold for more than an hour.

I have a modded ps vita with a 1tb sd card. It's awesome, but I still prefer my modded psp 3000 monster hunter edition. Why? Because I don't have to pry open the console in half just to replace the battery. It can still emulate pretty decently too so I'm good.

11:45 call of duty back ops was pretty bad on psvita in my opinion, u should have tried killzone mercenery bro

Because of two reasons; one which is very poetic and one which is the truth. See if you can spot which is which. Reason 1: In my videos I prioritize context a lot, because I feel that's what gives meaning to what I am presenting. For example, I don't show performance graphs of the Processor, nor do I show Input-Response times compared to other consoles, or do I dive into extended battery life tests. Even though these things are real (and sometimes important) performance metrics, after 3 or so graphs I just see too many numbers and I don't care. So instead I focus on why to care about this thing and what is important in that context. Like so, this video's story follows my journey from child to adult, first coming in contact with travel games, then the Gameboy, Nintendo DS, until my final faithful encounter with the PSVita. This sets the perspective of what my expectations were on the field of handhelds, and thus why I was so surprised by things like the ergonomics, screen and Remote play. As I didn't own a Nintendo 3DS at the time, this would not have fit my personal narrative and thus broken the context. As such, after careful consideration, the 3DS was not included in this video. Reason 2: I'm small KZreadr, no money. Gotta make due with what I got ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It wasn't ahead of it's time. It's just 3Ds is better and PS4 is available. The competition at that time has no place for vita. But it were never ahead of its time. It's just unnecessary device.

@@QuantumChrist I meant the "New" model. At least you can play every vita game on any Vita model. Something that can't be said for the 3ds and 3ds games, which by the way has SNES games locked behind a $250 paywall. Besides, Vita is the only one out of the two that is still supported. Vita definitely has good games that weren't best sellers because the system wasn't, a situation similar to the gamecube.

@@hypergrind5411 , GameCube console did not sold week yet lot's of game in GameCube that reach 4-5+ million sold copy like zelda, resident evil. Etc. And at that time GBa was more in demand that's why GameCube is less appealing . And as i said, there's no reason to own vita at the time it was realeased.
