Why The Phantom Menace is GREAT

So what are your thoughts on The Phantom Menace?
This is my favorite of the prequels, and I like it almost as much as the OT. I don’t think the CGI is bad, except maybe when we first meet Jar Jar, and other scenes with him in the jungle. I also don’t have a problem with the dialogue or Jar Jar. As for the super speed being a plot hole, I think the situations were different in the two scenes.
I've always enjoyed the Phantom Menace in spite of its flaws. I actually really enjoy the politics in TPA, and in most of the Star Wars universe for that matter. Through Palpatine's exploitation of them, we learn about some of the critical weaknesses of the Republic, and we learn a lot about what kind of guy Sheevy really is. I enjoy the way that the prequels tell the story of how the Republic became the Empire alongside telling the story of how Anakin becomes Vader. From a worldbuilding standpoint alone I loved the concept of the decadent, decaying democracy, with its spiritual leaders atop a literal ivory tower. I will grant that the delivery is hit or miss, and the dialogue is not always the best, but that side of TPA and the prequels in general works for me. I also think the practical effects in TPA are hella underrated, there are some beautiful sets, costumes, and props in this movie.
Hot take. While it's definitely dated and shows it's age, The Phantom Menace CG is still better than Attack of the Clones
This movie was my first theatrical experience of star wars. The 3D re release to be specific. And I gotta say, I thoroughly enjoyed it.
It was the toxic OT fanboys that hated on the Prequel fans because “George ruined my childhood.”
the phantom menace was soooo good, from the pod race scenes to the invasion and droid battles, to the light saber duel between darth maul and qui gon, super dope movie. great soundtrack mixed with great visuals
When you're slavish to the OG trilogy the story can't ever evolve. Nothing new. You get the Sequels. Or worse a reconstruction that misunderstands the story and spits on the established lore like The Last Jedi.
I loved the prequels and watch them almost everyday while I work from home, I can never get tired of George Lucas works, to this day I still can’t understand how people hated the prequels, and most of those people didn’t watch the clone wars, because any prequel and clone wars fans know there was wayyyyy to much stuff to cover in 3 prequel movies, and you almost have to watch clone wars animated show to really see the big picture, oh well prequels were still better than the sequel trilogy.
Yes... yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes
Personally I think TPM is such a good movie. It really sets up for what happens in the rest of the films. Qui-Gon was Annikan’s father figure who believed in emotions. ObI-Wan was just the older brother who wanted to get in well with the higher up Jedi. When Qui-Gon died, the “clouded future” of Annikan became clearer. Without Qui-Gon to help Annikan deal with his emotions, Annikan was left to bottle them up. When Palpatine came along and listened to Annikan, it was the first time someone let Annikan feel his strong emotions. That’s how Paplatine hooked Annikan into being his apprentice. I agree, Jar Jar is fun and makes the movie more enjoyable.
Phantom Menace was my first experience of a midnight release when I was around 10. I remember being very excited and leaning back wide eyed in my seat during the pod race. I've always loved Jar Jar's silly slapstick comedy. Qui Gon is one of my all-time favourite Jedi. I loved Padme from the start and the fact that she didn't just comfortably sit back as a leader but stepped forward into action.
Oh it is personal. Him touching Obi-Wan's face as he dies shows how much Obi-Wan means to him.
"Jar Jar is a good character"
I just re-watched these movies and they are so much better than I remembered them being, and I did like them when I first saw them! I LOVE the world building that these movies expands on, and I LOVE the politics in the movies that set the stage for the original trilogy and make the world feel real. So much is happening in these movies and the complexity of plot makes me like it more than the plot of the original three. These movies deserve more love.
Even as a kid I loved episode 1 and watched it the most as I only owned the prequel DVDs, can’t explain why but it always clicked for me
It's so easy to love all the Star Wars movies. Although TPM isn't my favourite, it still has so many great moments. It's such a good start for the trilogy and the one that feels the most OT-like. Even if you don't like the movie, you have to admit that you feel the love they put into this stuff. Justice for Jar Jar Binks. Great video, great channel.
I love this video and this is the most pure comments section I've ever seen for this movie. What a grand place to find myself this fine morning
It is type of movie which is rly fun when you know what to expect
Few seconds into this I almost died of laughter. 😂
