It's not.... it's the nfl protecting its tv partners , ( because most of there money comes from TV deals and the TV stations would negotiate down the price for the future, and this way only ppl who have a lot of money who don't care will buy ticket) TV for live sports will always be there....but the short sightedness of the nfl is that ppl like me who has not had cable for 20+ years will just pirate the games I want to watch cuz I'm not paying 400 bucks just to watch and get blacked out of games... If they just lower it to 100, it be fine

As someone that has poured thousands at DirecTV for years, there could be a potential downside here. Those networks rely on those audiences to sell advertising to big agencies. The NFL relies on those Networks to shovel enormous piles of cash at them every year which more than anything else impacts the annual growth of the salary cap. If the salary cap stopped growing, or worse yet if it started getting lessened, it would be very bad for us (depending of course on how long it would take for this all to play out in court)

Funny this came up as I just cancelled my Sunday Ticket subscription last night, said reason for cancelling is it is too expensive and within hours I got an offer for $100 off. It is still sort of expensive and I wish I could just choose Browns games however I will watch the other AFC North teams often esp. when they play each other. Anyway I suggest everyone just cancel and wait for a discount offer. Worse case you do not get an offer then you can renew if you so choose. That has been my experience with all paid media - only time you get a decent price is when you threaten to cancel or are a new subscriber. They never give loyal customers deals so no sense in being loyal IMO.

The NFL however will appeal this decision and will try to take it up with the Supreme Court. Very interesting verdict indeed as it appeared for a bit that the judge wasn't going to allow this to get to a jury but hot damn! Edit: Florio did say that if the verdict stands and withstands all the appeals, the NFL would push the total fine to the 32 teams to pony up. Currently, the NFL is on the hook for $4.7 Billion but due to it being an antitrust violation, damages are tripled. NFL is currently on the hook for approximately $14.39 Billion or a shade under 450 million per team. Ooof

I'm active duty and am required to live 750 miles away from the browns local market. I honestly wouldn't mind paying the $400 a season to be guaranteed to see all the browns games, but it doesn't even have all of them! half the time they play at 1:00, and the chiefs (my local market team) hardly ever plays at 1. This forces local broadcasting networks to fill the slots the chiefs aren't playing in with any (seemingly) random game that's on. a lot of the time they won't put the browns on, but a non-zero amount of times, they do! and now I'm not only required to pay for sunday ticket, but I'm also required to have some sort of cable package (hope they have NFL games), plus peacock and whatever else they decide to put a game or two on. it's truly ridiculous. I just want to watch browns games.

I take more of an issue with Sunday Ticket "every out of market game" false pretense. As a Browns fan living in NC with extensive work travel, frequently experience inability of watching a game in other parts of country which are also out of market. Last season alone non-nationally televised Browns games were not available on Sunday Ticket on two occasions in Vegas and DC when being televised locally in those cities. Browns were not playing local teams in each of those instances. Yes, Sunday Ticket has a high price. My personal justification not owning a TV is that I'd spent that much going out locally to watch those games through course of season and perhaps once a season have accompanying sound.

My take is if you buy the Sunday ticket you should get all the games including the Super Bowl. Last year Miami and KC played on the NBC or CBS streaming channel exclusively for a playoff game nobody could watch it even NFL Sunday ticket subscribers were denied access. But my point being is if I pay for the season of football the season is not over officially until the championship game is over. I should be able to watch all the games regardless who broadcast or streams them on You Tube Sunday Ticket I paid for all the games even Amazon games thus the high price. The thing that really pisses me off is that I was working out of town during the 49ers game last year and the NFL blocked me on i heart radio from listening to the game on my local station that carried the game. They literally said that if you were trying to listen to the Browns game from a streaming service like i heart radio you will not be able to hear it!!!

How do they not understand how fans think? The product is good, it’s not so good I’ll be happy to just watch whoever. Fans have a “rooting interest” and that rooting interest isn’t equal for all teams.

Here’s the real problem that Cable and the NFL don’t realize - I’m not going to pay for cable television to watch the local game if the Browns aren’t involved. In any given season, unless my team is on prime time, the odds of me watching a cable TV game is slim. It’s free and costs less of my time to catch the highlights on KZread. So the fact of the matter is, because Sunday Ticket is $400, I’m not watching games anyways if it’s not free or cheap, and cable tv providers don’t get my viewership anyways.

They are doing the same thing with Madden. If they offered just "Madden" that you buy once and can buy each season to get updated and play through like some games battle passes.

If you don’t think the player market is gonna go down after this. that salary cap is not going up next yr that’s all I’m saying.

I was thinking about getting Sunday ticket but I read the fine print and maybe I misunderstood but from what I read it's like you only get out of market games and you can only watch live games ie you would've had to have woken up by 7am est to watch those Germany games; again maybe I misunderstood but if not then yeah its only for die hard of die hards because taking the money out of it you're paying for all games (minus local market ones) but you're only allowed to look at 2 per week (12 and 3 o clock games). Hopefully I misunderstood because otherwise it's a complete ripoff

Q, this is all nice, but how will this effect the salary cap going forward. Will it effect the Browns?

I've never gotten NFL Sunday ticket before but was interested for this upcoming season. So am I still going to be able to get Sunday ticket? Will this law suit thing mean it'll be cheaper? So should I wait to get it? Lol

This guy is dead wrong. You don't want this to be a significant penalty to the NFL. The NFL did nothing wrong.

Well maybe it’s not quite the same but I have to pay KZread tv for all the channels on the base plan just to watch the Browns. I literally only have it for that. But I don’t have an option to just pay for the channels. I need to watch the Browns games I have to pay for all of them. And it like $70 a month that’s not a lot cheaper than just gettin NFL ticket. And if NFL ticket was $120 Quincy, then I wouldn’t need to pay $70 a month for youtube tv. That would be awesome.
