got one for my father - not a pilot, but a plane mechanic to pay respect for all his sacrifices and endorse his heritage. never been more proud of myself.

I love the Longines Spirit titanium. I haven't gotten to try it out on bracelet, but that would be my preference. I think it's kind of a hybrid between field watch and pilot watch. I have a thing for field watches, probably developed from my first purchase of Victorinox field style watch in the mid-'90s. I love that gray/gilt look on the Spirit titanium and the details that went into the design. As for what I am wearing today, it is the original orange Dan Henry 1970 in 44mm size. Great vintage looks at a modern size that fits my 7.25" wrist well. As for lume, I prefer the blue even though I don't own a watch with that style yet.
Wearing my Hamilton Khaki Field Automatic today. The Longine Spirit is a beautiful watch. I'm envious!
That dial, hands & indices colour combo is absolutely stunning. So classy.

It's my favorite "field watch" as well. In fact, I'd have a hard time picking a favorite between my Pelagos and this. It's about as close to perfect as a watch can get.👍
Titanium offerings have me drooling. Glycine Combat Sub on wrist today.
I have the 42mm silver textured dial. Fantastic execution by Longines, absolutely love it!

Honestly, I really love the long lug design. It is beautiful!
Lovely watch. I’m wearing the Seiko Arnie reissue. Love it.
I’ve been wearing a new Longines Ultra-Chron since Friday when I received it. Love this brand and may need a Spirit.
I’m wearing my Longines Spirit 37. I like the five stars. They tell me I don’t need to see the movement to know it’s high quality. And should I lose my watch in a park or a shop or by a river, anyone finding it will know they’ve found something of real star quality and realise quite how lucky they are, and might even develop a love for watches themselves. I mean without a display case back, how would they know … So the stars are there because it doesn’t have a display caseback! And if that all sounds mad to you, I am quite mad, so it doesn’t matter.
This is very nice. No AD were I live ,but on my next trip to the big city I must strap one on. My Seiko SKX 007 will do me in the meantime.
Love the spirit line. There’s a blue dial 37mm out there with my name on it.
I'm wearing my Hamilton 6311 Khaki Field Automatic today. That Longines is a lovely watch. Been looking to pick up something from them for some time, this is now on the list of potential candidates, along with the Heritage 1935 that I saw you briefly snuck into the video as well!
I am rocking the Seiko Astron 2022 grey Ti and loving it.
I have the 37mm version and love it, it is a strap monster, works well on nato, leather, rubber, etc.

The most beautiful dial 🤩
I just bought one of these 40mm titanium, so I have it on the wrist. Amazing watch. Amazingly I’m on a ship and the watch I brought was a Mark 18. Nice duet in my humble opinion

Wearing my Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical 38. Great review - I agree. When I first saw this one, I definitely thought "field watch."
Wristcheck: Longines Master Collection Chrono 42mm (white dial) In love with almost every longines watch!
Another great video! Wearing my TISSOT 2000 today but Longines will be my next time piece purchase. But now you made my decision more difficult as I was going to get the Spirit Zulu piece Now I have to consider this one as well.
Funnily enough I’m wearing my steel Longines spirit 40mm, in green, bought from yourselves in Edinburgh 😊
I’m wearing a Davosa Ternos Sixties Special. I won it at the District Time watch festival last Sunday
Gorgeous piece. If only they'd remove the 5 stars and add open back exhibition case haha... Wearing my omega 1962 de ville today 😁

Wearing my Hamilton Khaki mechanical polar white dial. You know the crown is pretty big and it is a quintessential field watch. Bought it indirectly from a KZreadr. Been wearing the dam thing off and on for 5 days at +- 0 seconds a day. It is spooky good.
Prx auto green dial with the black leather strap added recently.
Been looking at Longines for a while, but I can't unsee the 5 stars as a trustpilot rating. Wearing a PRX 40mm gold with mint green dial (you heard it here first)

Titanium scratches easier than steel. It is stronger and lighter but it scratches much more easily. Your last comment about Zaratsu being a samurai sword polishing technique was wrong too. Recommend doing more research before spouting nonsense.

No... That's only arguable for pure titanium. The Titanium used in Longines watches is Grade 5, Ti-6Al-4V alloy. This alloy has a Vickers hardness (Hv) of around 300, compared to the mere 130 Hv of 316L used in SS watches. Also, titanium naturally forms an oxide surface layer (TiO2) that hides scratching better than 316L. Maybe you should take your own advice.
I'm wearing my blue Longines Hydroconquest 41mm.
So to make your point about field watches having smaller crowns, you use a photo of the Hamilton which is famous for its HUGE crown! 😄 But I agree bro, lots of overlap with the field watch look. Good video 👍
I have the blue dial stainless steel 37mm version of it. Absolutely love it.

same, I have the black 37
There's a lot of overlap with Field and Pilot watches, I do think their design is a perfect middle ground between Field and Pilot.
This is my GADA I love it so much. My speedmaster and my blackbay 58 don’t get as much wear anymore. This one takes up so much wrist time my I sold my Rolex OP 39. I’ve swapped my exhaust with it on I don’t even think about it when doing odd jobs and it has so little wear. It is a field watch.
Of all my watches, some worth a fortune, this and my Milgauss are my favourite.
More pilot than field overall. I have this version and it's versatile. casual to business casual. good on a padded leather strap. very light. nearly 50mm lug to lug though so medium to larger wrist for this one.

I'm rocking a glycine combat sub at the moment, got it recently for $250 at Costco lol
I have to say hat a lot of thought has gone into the watch. I think I'd seriously consider the NATO strap over the bracelet for this model even though my rule of thumb is usually the bracelet option. I'd have to see this watch in the flesh and compare it to the Spirit 37 that is on my list of interest. On the wrist today is the Tudor double date.
I got the PRX Automatic Ice Blue on
I'd go for pilot-style field watch maybe. Big fan of all the spirit range - the only current longines watches I like the look of
❤ my Longines
I never thougt i would understand a Guy from Scotland as i saw Trainspotting 2/ Begbie and I couldn‘t understand him at all😂 Greetings from Germany
It’s definitely a mix since it has 100M which is not common for pilots watches, but it has the dial and legibility of a pilots.
Field watch can be used as a Pilot watch and vice versa
A shame it has no glass exhibition back. I would go for an 1832 in Black I think.
Is the dial black or anthracite?
I'm thinking field watch, looking at the white dial version 😬 😂
For my husband’s birthday gift - Longines SPIRIT titanium OR TAG HEUER CARRERA calibre 5 automatic? I’d really appreciate your input here.
@ChisholmHunterOfficial
Жыл бұрын
It really depends on your Husband’s lifestyle. If he’s an outdoorsy guy then definitely the Longines but for more dressy situations I would say the Tag!
Titanium is only slightly more durable than steel m, it’s only advantage is it’s amazing strength to weight ratio compared to steel. I would save some money and get the steel version, the extra couple of grams make no difference in a wristwatch in my opinion.
Seiko spb241 Laurel reinterpreted alpinist 38mm
Titanium is not more robust than steel. It's much softer and will scratch easily. Titanium I'd not a good choice for a field watch. I do like the watch though.
just wish there is a 37mm titanium version and I would buy it straight away...prefer shorter L2L.wearing a Tudor BB GMT today
Tudor ranger on wrist
The spirit 37 doesn’t come in titanium, no screw down crown, and has a date at 6 o’clock. For these reasons, I prefer the 40mm
How do you compare this to the Khaki Field Auto Titanium 38mm? I'm assuming the Spirit feels more 'luxury' with the raised gold indices etc?

@@zachg9065 I’ve not got the Titanium. My Murph 38mm has AR. Plan was to get the Titanium as an actual ‘field watch’ but I’ve gone for the Full Metal Casioak instead.
2:47 hmmm that's interesting, this is the opposite of what I've read about titanium. I've read that it's a softer metal than steel which is why it scratches easier. From personal experience owning both, titanium bracelets have definitely scratched easier than my SS bracelets. On the flip side though , light scratches have been easier to repair on Ti with things like fiberglass scratch pens. Maybe the grade of titanium changes all of this? 🤷♂️
@dukes70
Жыл бұрын
I agree. From everything I’ve read about TI and scratching, it does scratch easier than SS due to the oxide layer on top so scratches are very shallow. And yes it can be easily polished out with a fiberglass pen.
i agree 😀..use the same watch.😃

..and its a strap monster..
You got one thing wrong: "[titanium] ... doesn't scratch as easily...". Indeed, titanium is about 3 to 4 times stronger than stainless steel. But... titanium is more prone to scratches than stainless steel. Go figure! Some manufacturers use all kind of surface treatments for titanium watches so that they are on par with the stainless steel ones when it comes to scratch resistance. I hope this helps!
I loved the spirit in pictures, but in person it hit me as a bit overdone and trying too hard to sell itself as "luxurious." The gold hands and the gold logo and the gold stars and the diamond markers cut into the rehaut, and the diamond-tipped second hand and and the gold-trimmed numerals...it's all too much. Agreed that swapping the gold for silver would be a nice step, but the design could use some restraint overall. It's bad enough that Rolex keeps blinging out its tool watches and it looks like Longines is trying to play the same game.
2:55 Titanium is softer than steel. It also easier to scratch only a thin layer outside where Ti oxidate with Oxygen is more robust. It ist kind of myth that titanium is more robust, it depends on the use case. For watch case its definitely bad material. It's the same kind of myth like Carbon Fiber parts seems to be light weight - but they aren't because of tones of lack that covers the carbon fiber. Also aloy wheels weight more than steel stamp but steel called light weight only because they are aluminum made :)

Not a fan of the gold on black
Lol, the notion that a pilot watch needs to be the size of a hockey puck is largely a modern marketing concept that runs CONTRARY to the history of actual pilot watches. The Longines Spirit is much closer to historical pilot watches in the same way the IWC Mark XV is closer than the overcompensating Big Pilot.
Tool watch without crown guards, solid water resistance and some sort of rotating bezel? Yes, that's correct: diver watches are the best tool watches. Also, the 5 star on the dial looks cheesy. What's that, a hotel window? Even the Hydro Conquest makes a better tool watch that the "semi-dressy" Spirit. My favorite tool watch is my 41mm Marathon GSAR on rubber strap.

you don't mean a NATO strap. You mean a nylon strap is you are comparing it to a leather strap. Also, although Longines call their strap NATO style... it is not a NATO strap. small point but you may as well be accurate if you are going to position yourself as a competent reviewer

Beautiful watch! I love the no-date format and I expect it to not have a ghost date crown position, but did Longines remove the ghost date wheel click? My Longines Avigation BigEye has no ghost date but at nine-thirty, there is an audible click because that is when the movement "thinks" it is midnight. It would have been fine if it wasn't at a time I am awake n the morning or evening.
