I just wanted to add information regarding the shock resistance of the full metal Squares: there is a resin case sandwiched in between the outer metal bezel and the inner metal case. Because of this, it is as shock resistant, if not more so, than any of the resin Squares. The silver one I think has that inner resin piece in red while the gold and black is colored black I believe.

I just bought the GW-B5600 for $143 USD out of Japan. It is basically the same watch but with a resin case and bracelet (inner bracelet is an aquamarine color). I have plenty of Seikos and an Oceanus T200 to take care of a need for Stainless Steel.

As someone who owns both a GMW-B5000 and an GW-5610, I bought the GMW-B5k afterwards mainly for the DLC case and the extra functions the GMW-B5k module has. In addition to the bluetooth (which is meh, didn't buy the watch for that) you get 5 more World Time zones, A countdown timer that you can set to the second, and the time is displayed in the upper right hand corner in the timer and stopwatch modes (like a DW-5600E). You also get a better light that you can switch between 2 or 4 seconds of illumination. As soon as Casio decides to update the DW-5000-1jf to the new module found in the GMW-B5k I'll be picking up one of those, as a really would like this watch with a DLC stainless case and a resin bezel.

You're totally correct in your assessment yet totally missed the point. The Full Metal G Shocks are not tool watches in the same way as the Rolex Submariner is not a tool dive watch. They're both capable of doing what they advertise, but at the end of the day 99% of people who end up buying them will be more motivated by them being status symbols rather than as tools. I know because I'm seriously considering dropping the $ to buy the new Titanium Camo G... I already own the resin 5000 but the irrational part of me screams out to want to acquire the Camo titanium too even though it's less practical in every regard compared to the resin watch.

Thank you for sharing your opinion on this. But you’re “totally” wrong. If going for a status symbol, people tend to go for other models, generally considerably more expensive ones. Think MR-G. You have to remember there are aftermarket full metal cases in a multitude of finishes. So I could have a full metal 5610 for less than 200 including the watch. Of course people say it loses the “ruggedness” but I have yet to see one that failed in reliability due to the aftermarket case.

I have the one with regular LCD, I love it, but it doesnt get that much wrist time. Simply because in a way I think that the squares dont fit 100% with steel color, but mostly because its a bit too heavy for everyday use. I would have liked the case to be more brushed also, and less polished. With that said, its a keeper, dont plan on selling mine. Im planning putting a resinstrap instead. One thing I do like is the fading up and down gray/blue backlit light. Also how WT is displayed. The BT functionality I dont use, its almost useless anyway. Its a very good quality build, the bracelet lockingfunction is on par with my much more expensive Omega Speedmaster Broad Arrow. For 500 euro new, its a good buy I would argue.

Just came across your video after purchasing a metal G and it’s on its way. The difference can be the metal case and bracelet(polishing job), bluetooth and a STN LCD(Which I think mostly matters). The STN LCD has better visibility than normal LCD especially in a negative display. Also the LED backlight is more evenly distributed throughout the screen and it fades in and out adding a touch of excellence. Nice wholesome review!

Im not a gshock fan specifically but i am a casio fan. I got the black metal 5000 just recently. And i love the classic square casio watches but wanted a nice metal case version. Only problem is the metal case versions of the regular square casios have been met with mixed reviews so i thought id just jump to this gshock. The real only negative review for this one is the price and a couple small features. I got a pretty good deal on mine new that made it closer in price to the resin one. I have a question. Does that resin linked band from the $200 gshock fit on the metal 5000?

Hi Ivan, You like them or you don't like them. This model polarizes strongly. I have a GW 5600 with the resin link bracelet and a GWM 5000 TCM (Titan Camo). An item, especially a luxury item, is worth what someone is willing to pay for it. The steel versions keep their "value" stable at a high level in the used market. The MTG B1000RB has more than doubled its price. And an MRG G2000GA costs a few thousand. G-Shock are not only inexpensive tool watches, they can now also be found in the higher-priced segment. It is difficult for some to accept that you also have to pay for image, rarity and luxury for certain G-Shock models. greetings René

I have a GW-S5600-1JF (3159 module) and a GW-B5600BC-1ER (3461 module). The lighter weight of these watches is more logical for their intended uses. I see the GMWB5000D-1 as more of a dress watch. The price is down to $450, but it needs to be a bit lower before I would buy one. The Bluetooth is an OK feature, but not really needed, unless you are out of reception range of the 6 radio signals. Since I get a very good radio signal from Fort Collins, my radio controlled watches are actually slightly more accurate than my Bluetooth updated watches. It is usually less than 1/10th second difference, but it can be seen.

Once you land and turn on bluetooth your phone can sync the time with the watch with one quick press of button D. If you use atomic time than you still have to change the time zone to match your destination time zone. It's accurate, but doesn't "know" what time zone you're in. Also the atomic time signal isn't always reliable and works best at night.

I have had the black version with negative display for about 3 years. I don't like this watch. It's heavy and uncomfortable for me. The only positive thing is that the black paint has rubbed off in some places. This gives it an interesting used look. In the meantime, I prefer to wear calm Casios like the w218 or w217, with digits that are easy to read. I love them, so light and comfortable. 😔

Anyone into this might want to search for the 3000 "Tank" from the late 1980's. The first metal cased Casio square that you can sometimes find for $300-$400 on the secondary market. None of the bells and whistles that this comes with but extremely simple to set and forget with a cool look. I picked one up early last year. I would never consider these as I think they are overpriced and should be in the $200-$250 range.

Hi. I need opinion from expert. What do you think about Roamer Searock. I'm thinking about buying it. It is Swiss brand made in Swiss, Sapphire glass, Steal case, Steal/Tungsten bracelet, ETA 2824 movement and it looks a lot like Grand Seiko. I found it only £311/$412 seems like really good deal for watch with heritage, good specs. and it looks great.

The GW-5000U is the sweetspot; metal/screwback case covered in resin with a better more flexible watchband. It's got the slender profile and is discreet, but with some extra heft to give it a more quality feel. If they fix the articulation of the metal links the watch will just sit better, and it isn't going to make any differnce to the toughness/shock absorption. These metal ones play to the fashion luxe side without really improving the essence of G-Shock.

The reason why I picked up the black variant is because I wanted an all steel G. I look at the steel Marlins from the 80s and how barring the scuffs and scratches they are still functional when it come to their build. The scratches add character and that's just a part of owning an all metal. P.S with the help of 3M products once can buff those scuffs right off!
