Why can't the Submarine attachment be an add on for the Dyson? What are you thoughts why Dyson is gate keeping their Submarine attachment?

Until you can update the Dyson with a software update it’s not going to work

I think normally when people spill oatmeal on the floor the first thing they do to clean it up is grab some paper towel to pick up the mess. Then mop the area to clean it. I have actually never seen anyone use a mop to clean up a spilled oatmeal off the floor. This is very strange to me...

Maybe this is something cultural, but never in my whole entire life, I've used a single mop to pick up a mess of that type. In my country, you are supposed to pick up the mess first AND ONLY THEN you mop over it, IF NOT, my Mama, Abuelas, Tias and basically my whole entire ancestry IN SPIRIT will slap the freaking hell out of me... 😅 So my Dyson V15 Submarine works just well for me in Mexico, picking milk and cereal with this machine or any other machine is almost barbaric to me...

hi! Thank you for sharing and I respect your prespective. It's how Dyson and all the big home companies market their wet mops. Everyone wants to offer a all in one device that can do it all like air frying oven toasters or coffee, espresso, kuerig machines. I can see how the v15s would be very useful as a swiffer wet jet replacement.

It’s called evolving. Technology helps to save time, if it works properly. Maybe think about that when you cross certain borders for a better life. Assimilate and evolve to how others are, if not don’t come to new countries. Stay with your dirt floors and chickens running indoors.

Speaking about a need to evolve while being so rude is an oxymora… such a shameful behavior. Back to the vacum/mop/elbow greese argument, its doubtful that floor will be cleaner with such mess if you just go over it with a roler as opposed to picking it up with a paper towel and than using mop/wet vacuum. But even if its the same, I don’t see how its easier to clean the machine afterwards from such mess than to just clean the mess with a paper towel and than finish cleaning with your vacuuming proof of your superior existance.

I spoke to a friend who works at Dyson about this attachment. It doesn't work on any older Dyson's because the gen5 detect operates at a different voltage. Secondly, the fact you can only use the submarine to mop already vacuumed floors was a conscious choice by Dyson, given the fact a big issue with wet mops that can pick up heavy debris and mop floors, creates huge amounts of bacteria, often users dont clean them out properly and no self-cleaning system is good enough to properly sanitise the parts. Even the Bissell and Tineco units which apparently can do everything and clean themselves, clog over-time, start smelling, large chunks of debris get stuck in places and then eventually it breaks prematurely, so vacuuming floor first then using these mops is exactly what you should be doing. Vacuuming ensure that the crevices in laminates for example are properly extracted, because vacuum mops never have any actual "suction."

i dont believe that for a second. The Dyson v12 already have volstage control systems built in. its how it adjusts suction power based on what the sensors gather. Unless the minimum maximum that the submarine attachment uses is below the minimum that the v12 can supply, unlikely, it should work.

@@ChelseaJadeC the point is the bissell and others like it still have internal parts you can’t remove where moisture and dirt accumulates, which over times harbours bacteria and they stink, or worse, stop the machine from working. It’s rare these floor washers last any real amount of time.

My goal is to replace a standard mop as I don’t currently have a wet/dry vacuum. When I mop, I already vacuum before hand, or use a paper towel to pick up larger spills first. What I like about this unit is that it would do the floor scrubbing for me after I’ve already vacuumed.

dude, just because someone vacuumed doesn't mean there isn't residual grime on the hard floor. I dont know if you have dogs or kids but when mud dries or a small amount of liquid like juice gets unnoticed a vacuum isn't gonna pick that up. With a regular mop all you are doing is pushing wet liquid back and forth on the floor. Even swiffers just push it around. At least this mop head actually removes the grime layer a vacuum wont get and it removes the moisture it puts down. @@TheFrenchGlow

@@shaowlnkngfu3803 tell me you dont know how a mop or swiffer works without telling me. Swiffers absolutely trap dirt inside the cloth when its used and mops are the same way when properly used.

The design of this mop is obviously to clean your floors AFTER you have vacuumed them. You know, like how most people approach the task of mopping. This vacuum essentially gets rid of having to use a cumbersome mop and bucket and its rollers will also do a nicer job on the floor than sweeping the mop. For someone like me that gets arthritis pain in my hips, being able to simply walk across the house and mop the floor at the same time is awesome. I notice many reviewers reviewing this vacuum with a mop feature use it completely contrary to its intended use. (eg spilling lots of cereal and liquid on the floor) Also if you think there should be no issue with using that mop attachment on any dyson just because it looks like it fits, then I dare you to attach it to a regular V15 and see how far you go. It's not a wet/dry vacuum like those you compare it to. It's a dry vacuum with basic mopping capabilities. For those that like to give their floors a weekly wet clean in a fraction of the time it takes to use a mop and bucket and without the hassle of wringing, or bending your back all the time, this V15 submarine ticks that box.

I haven't seen anywhere that Dyson claims this is new head is supposed to actually suck up anything - it is just to wet the floor and move the dirty wet liquid back into the compartment @@TheFrenchGlow

Sure, the two times a year I spill a bowl of food a wet/dry vacuum would be nice (until it’s time to clean the tank), but the Dyson sub is clearly meant to be used for regular day-to-day cleaning, mopping already vacuumed floors.

Weird comparison. Its like reviewing a bike vs a car then saying the bike is terrible for transportation because it can't go as fast. If they claim its the answer for mopping then yes, it checks that box. Does it tick the box for people who strangely/lazily want to just suck up a bunch of wet oatmeal ... no it does not. Luckily, that mindset is not common but for those who regularly vacuum and then follow with a wet mop for floors that feel thoroughly clean this thing is great.

Thanks for the review! I have the Dyson v15 and the Bissel, I appreciate the portability of the Dyson and mostly use the Bissel for dried-on stains on the floor. Though excellent at its job, the Bissel is heavy and cumbersome to carry up and down the stairs, so switching out both for a submarine might be worth it. It’s annoying that the submarine head isn’t compatible with other models, including the V15 😭.

Happy with my V11 Absolute for nearly 5 years now..not going back to anything with a wire. Got a mop with a bucket that requires me to press and spin 😂

Im inlove with my V11 absolute also!!! Best investment for vacuum, my mom in law have rainbow vacuum. I dont like using it for daily use as it is heavy and wired but its a great vacuum! But i preferred wireless. I just bought a v12 slim submarine today. Same purpose also after i dry vacuum dry then im gonna use my submarine to seal the floor lols so it can get all the other dirt that cant be pick up by dry vacuum.

Thanks for the review. I will wait for the Dyson washG1 web mop when it's out in my region which currently is showing up in China. I do wish they could build a washG1 wand that connect to the current Dyson vacuum models though.

Idc how much it is, I’m getting it. Mopping is the absolute worst and this looks like the best version of the wet dry situation. It’s easy to clean and it’s separates the dirty water. I’m excited to get it.

I think you are supposed to vaccum to collect all the debris and then use the submarine.... that's how it's intended to be used. There is no suction when submarine is attached....

unbelievable product with a Dyson badge. R&D cost a wet dry vac is going to be cheap and easy to design considering existing competition products. I can't imagine a Dyson engineering using this on their own homes.

When I saw this, I was thrilled for a minute until Dyson said it cannot be used with any other Dyson lol. Don't they know that countless Dyson users would be so happy and grateful to buy this as an additional attachment, even if the cost was high but not as high as buying an entire new vacuum? Can't wait to see what you think of their robot vacuum... looks snazzy... haven't owned a robot vacuum in many years... watching that review next!

1:28 Because it requires firmware update and they simply don't want to bother. Basically the same anti-consumer behavior as with a tiny plastic 40$ tip for Supersonic. They don't even bother making required changes to V15 they didn't sell yet, so customer could later buy an upgrade for at least these. Nope. Pay us for a brand new unit again. What they should've done is completely seized the production and sales of normal V15 and replaced it with Submarine and Submarine Lite (or something) without the mop attachment. Thanks for honest, no BS review!

oh I wish I had seen this before I bought one. I did get it at the Black Friday sale price $1199 down from $1659 ($450 discount), thank goodness (Dyson is very expensive in New Zealand). You are correct about the motor - it has a longer run time on wet mode because it isn't using the motor power like the vacuum does. I have arthritis and it didn't occur to me that I would have to hold down the trigger on any appliance in this modern world. It hurts my fingers so I think that is a really bad thing. When using on dry mode it is a great vaccum, but I still have to hold that trigger down. Dyson are design masters - how did they not figure that one out? They must have had feedback from thousands of people?

I thought Dyson had finally started making a hold down trigger in later models? There is nothing to the technology. Tineco's have an either or mechanism. You can hold down the trigger for a quick pick up, or there's a simple plastic trigger holder to hold it down for most jobs. It's super easy. I know Dyson buyers have been asking for a stay down trigger for decades. It's a weird stubbonness that that won't offer it. Die hard Dyson fans will buy them anyways, but I know some people just pass, becasue for the price, there should be a held down trigger. It's kind of crazy.

Completely agree about the trigger issue. I’ve just finished using this model for the first time. Vacuuming the entire house took about 20-30 minutes and now my hand is throbbing and my neck/shoulder area hurts. Wasn’t expecting that. The battery life is great and the laser feature was so helpful to ensure I didn’t miss a spot.

The juice is not worth the squeeze. I had the chance to purchase this when I was shopping for a vacuum. I was torn between the Submarine and the Gen5outsize. I love the feature of having a vacuum and mop all in one feature. I decided to go with the Gen5outsize and I couldn't be happier with my decision because Amazon had their 2 day sale last week and I purchased the Bissell cordless CrossWave Max for $218 and it came with an extra roller and 4 bottles of cleaning solution and it's a far superior vac/mop. I also never like to buy the first year of any product that just hit the market. I know the Submarine will have an upgrade when they release the new and improved model that will be far superior to the original once they listen to the customer complaints.

Very good review with pros and cons clearly explained. U just earned urself a new sub.

Great comparison video. We bought the v15 detect last year. No way are we shelling out another 1k just to get one can barely mop. They really dropped the ball and making a compatible mop attachment. Looking into getting the Tineco as the self cleaning and other points are really compelling. Also cheaper.

I feel your pain. After 60 days with the V15s, I can't say find a good purpose to consistently use the submarine attachment except on already clean floors.

Hello, I want to ask if it's possible to use the others vacuum cleaners , that you have in the video, on the carpet? Is it possible to use as a dry and wet cleaner?

Hi! The other wet dry vacs (Tineco s7, s5) can be used on light rug but not real carpet and the Bissell crosswave pet can be used on light to medium carpet and low pile carpet but it's not meant to be a whole house vacuum.

It is pretty much a continuous wet duster. it is not for cleanup.

I see the point. After you vac you want to use a wet cloth to get up the sticky dust and 2.5 um stuff that stuck to the floor. The head itself does a good job of this, but the implementation of putting on the dyson as a head that does not utilize the cyclones does not make alot of sense. It turns your $700 vacuum into a big dumb bricky battery. Just make a wet Omni-Glide with the battery in the stick and call it a day. Seems like they took a stab at the market.@@TheFrenchGlow

Why can't the Submarine attachment be an added on for the Dyson? Actually this has a v simple answer. D-Submarine is NOT a wet-dry vacuum: it's an electric MOP (think of it as an electric Swiffer with scrubbing action built in, and an ability to pick up a v small "splash," but not meant for a serious spill); it sprays clean water as you move it (with a cleaning solution, if you want to add some, Dyson says on its website it's OK to use), and it works great for this purpose (even better if you actually vacuum your hard floor first!). There is no vacuum-provided suction on this wet attachment or connection to the rest of the unit, other than the main unit supplies the power for the spinning brush (so the suction motor MUST be turned off when you attach this, which older Dysons cannot do - otherwise, you'd burn the motor fast, and run down the battery too because the full suction power would be running on a completely plugged /sealed wand!). It is a very nice, light, cordless vacuum + mop, and if a mop is what you want as a bonus, this is a great value (bye, bye, $$$$wiffer Wet!): you are really getting the Dyson Gen5detect Absolute ($950), with the same green dirt-illuminating LED head, on-the-fly auto-variable suction power that extends battery (when on Auto), LED screen, article detection/counter (not that I needed this!), real-time time-left counter on display ( so you always know how many minutes are left on a battery charge), plus the mopping attachment (and a new chip that makes it work) for the same $950... And if you have a larger (or v dirty) surface, this thing has a one-click-swappable battery (no tools) 😀, so I can charge two batteries during the week, and then clean the apartment (carpet + hard floors), mop the bathroom and kitchen floors, and then swap battery, go downstairs (parking garage w/ no electric outlet near my car) and vacuum (floor, trunk & seats in my car). I love it!

What about the weight? I am thinking to get this one. Not for mod since I have Tineco S7 Pro. But I want to upgrade my v12 Dyson. I want to use it mostly as vacuum and it’s nice to me with an extra attachment. I am Just concerned about the weight. Is much heavier than V15 detect. ?

hi! Yes it is much heavier overall becuase once you add water to the submarine, the entire unit when off is about 10 lbs+. It will be good for light dusting and polish but not for larger homes session (1000 sq ft + in one mopping session) unless you intend to empty and wash the rollers mid session.

Hi, no you cannot.

My guess is that the non-submarine models would produce the suction/blockage error because they're not programmed to recognise the submarine head. I would also suggest that Dyson have no way of upgrading the firmware in their vacuums. It's not like they've got wifi or bluetooth.

Have you tried using it on a v15 vacuum?

Good review. After I watched it, i won't going to buy dayson submarine, I will buy simple Dyson s15

I’m not seeing any of the other vacuums work on carpet. The Dyson Submarine has attachments that allow you to vacuum hard floors and carpet.

The Submarine is a horrible mop for the money Dyson is asking for. I'd rather have my cordless Bissell CrossWave Max vac/mop use actual cleaning solution to clean and sanitize a floor than using basic water that disinfects nor kills any kind of germs

They don't advertise it for tests like the oatmeal test. It doesn't make sense to use it. It's not even a mop really, it's not for spills. It's basically a $900 swiffer wet-jet.

Men i just got the Dyson submarine now i want to return it and get the tineco

I have the V15 absolute and I upgraded to the submarine... I wanted interchange some of the items (bin, vacuum head, hepa filter, even the battery) I wanted to sell the V15 absolute with the new items to get more money for it but they said I couldn't interchange the clear bin or the hepa filter... why would that matter? does anyone know? Also I want to use it like a mop, not really to mop UP water or anything, just clean tiles. I want to add detergent to the barrel but Dyson says you can only use a little bit of diluted detergent and to follow instructions from supplier... YOU ARE THE SUPPLIER, DYSON! What detergent can I use?

Hi! I used kitchen soap, Tineco cleaner, bissell cleaner, and pine sol. My advice, use detergent sparingly because the tank is so small. Any sudding will make the dirty water tank spill.

I literally just bought a Dyson submarine today, opened it charged and used vacuum and mop. then this video came through as a suggestion. Anyways i hope it will last me for 3 years at least

I have the Bissell Crosswave and it's a pain to use. It's heavy and bulky and a pain to clean. And, it doesn't mop the floors that well. I still have to vacuum before I mop and the floors are never as clean as with the Dyson Submarine

Hi, you can put soapy water in the mop head but there is no way to prevent oversudding in the waste tank.

Who would try to pick up that oatmeal with a mop??? Common sense tells me to pick that mess up with paper towels or a rag BEFORE mopping. I wouldn't purchase any of those machines for picking up messes like that. I hated my Bissell Crosswave as it was difficult to clean and took a long time to dry before you could use it as a vacuum again.

hi! That is what they are marketed for. Like a jeep that goes off-road even though the jeep only goes to costco.

I think this is why it's only an attachment. By design you should pick up the bigger solids or vacuum first and then use submarine attachment for the mopping. Judging by the size of the compartment it's not meant for dry wet vacuum just some minor particles maybe left behind the vacuuming. However I recently see on Chinese social media about an actual Dyson dry wet vacuum/ mop. Maybe it will be available soon in rest of the world and I'll be verrry interested to see how that performs.

The tineco machines are the way to go

Sucks it doesn't use its motor, I suppose the only real reason to get this is if you want the cordless vacuum regardless of price and don't already have a Dyson. For what submarine offers it should be about half the added price.

I think that it’s a very poor effort by Dyson to get people to buy ‘the next big thing’. This thing just uses water and it’s not the proper way to clean hard floors throughly! Unfortunately there are ‘Dyson fans’ out there who get sucked into Dysons marketing hype and will just spend money on it.

I do love my Bissell crosswaves and replacement parts are easy to get.

I agree, seems like its just a cheep Gimmik at best. Get with the game Dyson.

I will definitely not buy it. If it comes as an accessory for my current Dyson, maybe, but I am definitely not throwing away my Dyson for this.

In all fairness it’s not a vacuum on floors just a mop-so u should vacuum first then mop

Hi! The V15s submarine is marketed as a wet dry vac. Dyson claims it is cleans stains, Liquids, and debris. The wet dry mops are all variations on a mop vac.

The cleaning person will be frustrated but they are the ones who will have to deal with the hassle of cleaning with the Dyson blue submarine absolute.

Brother, I say this with love, because you seem like such a nice guy. The reason why your review comes across as invalid is because you’ve convinced yourself that this submarine mop head is the equivalent of a wet/dry vacuum. Your basic premise is flawed and you’ve completely missed the mark of the intended use of the attachment. It’s designed to feed water onto brush head from the reservoir, provide the scrubbing and moisture required to soften and lift up mainly dried-on stains. That’s why the grey water tank is the adequate size for the size of reservoir, the intended use is not to gobble up a pile of oatmeal or dog turd from the ground. That’s why if you try mopping up an additional 6oz of spillage your grey water tank is going to fill up before you can use the contents of your reservoir. Really basic stuff my dude… Your video, towards the end, is coming across as disingenuous because given your videos release date being much after those other channels, there is no way that you haven’t seen other reviews of the same product, given that there’s only a handful of people reviewing them. The only time I’d use a big wet/dry vacuum like a bissel is if a toddler has vomited up a bucket of gunk or has taken a shit right there on the hardwood floor and it means picking it up beforehand is going to give you aids. Otherwise I’ll stick to what I currently do which is vacuum, THEN mop like a normal person. Peace

The V15 is definitely a awesome stick vac.

Has anyone actually tried attaching the sub head to a regular (non-mopping) Dyson V15 detect? I currently have both machines (but not for long as I plan on returning the non-mopping version) and am VERY tempted to see what happens (or not)…YET fearful of damaging the regular V15! The curiosity is killing me tho 😮 HAS ANYONE TRIED IT? I need to know…asap

Just using a dust pan and a mop is way faster and more efficient than buying Dysons 800 dollar submarine. Tools like this are supposed to save you massive time . Should not be actually alot longer than doing it manually

If the programming is different on the Dyson why’s the vacuum turning on ? Im going to make a video of how I’m putting the submarine head on the v8. They’re simply gate keeping in order for you to buy a new system nothing else

I'm pretty surprised this is Dyson's offering for the wet mop. It's pretty lame and not worth the extra money. I can see devoted Dyson buyers will still go for it. It has a tiny water tank and it would be extra work to get a larger area done. The fact it leaks when the dirty tank gets full is just crazy. There's no cues to tell you it's full, you just get to find out. This thing would only mop a pretty small area. Then fill it again and rinse that brush roller.

I can't get the mop detachment to clean the stone floor in the bathroom but I cannot figure out why. It cleans the wood floors fine floor but it seems to click and rise a little higher on the stone and no water comes out.

It's not designed for that though? Common sense would tell you to clean up large solid spills. It's for mopping.

This is the most wrong test that ı've seen. just vacuum it than mop the ground thats it

Love seeing a non Dyson sponsored video, always a stark difference in reviews lol. Also the Crosswave does come with in cordless model!

Hi! Thank you! And I have the bissell crosswave cordless x7 but it got recalled for fire. Ours bissell x7 never had an issue but it's why I prefer the bissell HF3 over the x7. I have a review of the bissell hf3 and it works really well.

@@TheFrenchGlow The main advantage w/ the Bissells over the others that seem to perform better on floors and are more maneuverable and lighter, seems to be that the Bissell is pretty good for refreshing area rugs, and actually has a different brush head you can get for that. That would be the only reason I'd consider a bissell over a Shark for instance.

The submarine cost $250 by itself it can only be used on the v15s because only the v15s has the software to use it

Hi! My question is why can't the software be updated on the current V15 or gen5 or v12 or v11. It does not seem like it is a complicated program or attachment to operate and they are planning to release s versions of other dysons.

I think Dyson submarine is trash and too expensive. I have it and I will keep using it because my return time expired but it is not worth it. As a vacuum, it is great but as a wet mop hydrovac, it sucks. First, it will take you forever, you have to vacuum first. I had shark hydrovac in the past and i liked it more but it stoped working after 2 months ( clean water tank empty error - very common). If it didn't have that issue i would have probably kept shark hydrovac cordless. Dyson submarine does not have an auto button, so you have to hold the start button the whole time, so for older people or younger children it might be hard to use. Also, it is very streaky, doesnt pick up hair or any debris whatsoever. The worst thing is that after using duson submarine, I use shark steamer, and the pads still come out dirty so dyson submarine doesnt mop very well. I wish i can post the pisture of my shark steamer pads after moping with dyson.....not so clean. But....I have a little baby that is crawling everywhere so I will keep it and the hassle of returing it is a pain. Honestly, I would have dyson as a vacuum but something else as a hydrovac.

Dyson always does that with tool compatibility. I love their stick vacs, but not their tactics.

These tests are unrealistic. I have a tineco s3, and I only use it after already cleaning up a bit. Simply because that mess is just transferred into the tank. The mess is easier to clean when it’s in the floor vs in the machine. The floor is a flat surface, the machine tank has all sorts of crevices and nooks that chunks of food get into. You didn’t get into the most important aspect of these things, the before and after. How do you actually use it. The mop and bucket is actually easier maintained than these things. Maybe the Dyson is actually easier to clean than the competition?

I love Dyson but this is just terrible. And all of these style machines are only good on FLAT surfaces. I have deep grout and I’ve tried a couple and they don’t even touch it. My favorite style I’ve used for years is the Hoover floormate. Puts down a ton of water and actually scrubs deep down. Haven’t found a product better for my needs since.

Yeah…definitely a marketing fail by Dyson. I could see if they were simply calling this a “mop” attachment instead of a “wet/dry vac” attachment, but advertising this as being able to handle messy spills with solid debris is a miss on Dyson’s part

Isn’t it easier to just wipe the mess with a piece of cloth than clean the dyson head

Yes but you would then be cleaning up almost all messes with solids. The submarine is more for liquid only.

The submarine attachment doesn't pick up half of the dirt that the bissell crosswave picks up... Also you have to vacuum first and then use the submarine after. That's a waste

A waste? I’m confused, I did not know the Crosswave mops and does carpets as well. With the submarine you easily change a head and can vacuum the entire home

Lets just be honest, Dyson as a product is a fashion statement for an over priced product that actually has no benefit other than the basis requirements, regardless of the product purchased from Dyson. Considering they have been in the business for as long as they have, they are miles behind with technology.

That's clearly all it is. There's no way I believe this has anything to do w/ software. Most brands make sure their attachments aren't compatible w/newer models now though. Which is a shame. It would be a big selling point if a company would just make things interchangable and would set them apart from the others, who keep making all these obsolete parts.

You’re trying to make the argument for going after messes like an immediate wet mess. If you have kids or pets. That’s fine for YOU. lol. I’m want to be able to hit those tiny dried crusty stains from a splash that came out of s drink I was carrying 2 months ago. Those are what haunt my house. I don’t have kids or pets so I don’t have big wet messes. And how often do those type messes happen? Surely not everyday. I’d just have a separate VACUMN for that kind of mess. This this is slim and gets into WAYYYYYY more corners and angles than those others and the head is tiny yet mighty and easy to clean in my laundry sink. This was built for me. ❤
