Why The Dynamic Island was Rushed

Today we go over my theory behind the creation of the Dynamic Island. I it was the Work of one to create the Dynamic Island and his efforts to spread the idea, it was not a fantastical creation years in the works. Let me know what you think.

The feature is also pretty simple, it all works through Live Activities AFAIK - that might be the reason, why it is not compatible with many apps (this should be changing with the arrival of iOS 16.1, though, which brings Live Activities support for third party apps).

Yeah, it was kind of obvious it wasn’t something that was known years ago because of the leaks, renders, and to your point the ff. It was either 1) it was so secret that no one knew (including marketing) OR 2) it was so last minute and it changed everything. This was the 1 feature that drove me to get a new iPhone, I was on a 13 Pro Max and wasn’t going to upgrade since all rumors pointed to it being a boring refresh. Well done!

I remember going to the iPhone 14 Pro site on Apple's website (after launch, of course). Then, I right-clicked one of the images and clicked "open image in a new tab". Surely enough, the photo was the iPhone 14 Pro with a blank screen and more importantly, the camera and Face ID parts were separated. Meaning that they used that photo of the separated Face ID and camera AFTER LAUNCH on the website.

The Island has hardware accelerated sub-pixel antialiasing, how does that fit into your theory? (It's currently only used for that feature, and they said it's a custom silicon block on the A16, but that could just be fancy marketing speak for "GPU accelerated")

i think that antialiasing is done by the same hardware that does the always on display. so they probably just rolled that into one?

the regular notch and display corners also have hard-coded antialiasing (part of the display firmware, not the operating system).

That engineer ruined everything we could’ve had a clean normal pill shape cut out with the front facing camera alone.

and that would have been better than what we got?

I don't think that would have looked better at all. People would have still been annoyed that there's two cutouts of different shape and size. This way, there's at least some function to all the space they take up.

I would have loved if Dynamic Island also handled notifications like messages. Something like the last 2 notifications. I love the animations in it and I wish Apple would get rid of banner notifications and let the island handle those.

Can you do a video on the whole process from when apple designs and invents a bug until it ships to iPhones around the world?

I personally dislike the dynamic island. The fact that it moves the screen cutout further down than the original notch is poor design decisions. The features can 100% be added to a notch, but of course why do that when you could market it as a flagship feature? I hate it. I want the original status bar back, not some silly gimmick.
