Why THE BEAR Season 3 Episode 6 Is PERFECT
Ойын-сауық
I review breakdown and explain The Bear Season 3 Episode 6. I discuss Tina's episode which is titled Napkins where she was fired from her job and ended up working at The Beef. I react to why the episode is perfect, Ayo Edebri's directing, the conversation between Tina and Mikey and why it is so powerful. I also compare it to Season 2 episode 6, fishes.

Mikey’s character is the perfect depiction of depression. anybody who is or has been depressed knows it’s so easy to encourage and lift others up instead of doing that for yourself
For Tina (in season 1), Sydney become the representative of those young and formally educated people that were either Tina's competition during her job hunt or those youths that were handling her job applications. That's why Tina was so b*tchy to Sydney. It's not only the case that Tina did not like Carmy's changes to The Beef and that's why she's grumpy. Now comes this young, formally trained, and talented chef who basically became her boss in no time. This episode also gave additional weight to that moment in season 2 when Tina was so excited because she will be sent to culinary school. Tina will now have that formal training credential under her belt.

Facts we fully understand the reason behind everything that had happend during Season 1 and 2 plus this rivals Mickey's episode last season and that scene with Jon ? With them talking how there day were? It was just amazing in a way that all of us have been in that situation. Damn this series.
The bit where Mikey says “what the fuck am I gonna do with a resume I just talked to you” really sneak attacked me in the feels just something about that was so pure and cathartic. Loved the episode
I don’t know if anyone who has lost a job and was doing their best to find a new one, it can be so demoralizing. This episode was very relatable to me and got me emotional when she first went to the beef. You got to see why Mikey was so beloved by the people in his life.

The moment when mike talked about the building of dreams and how it was depressing memory because he felt it didn't apply to him hit me unlike anything else i've seen. It's engraved so strongly in my memory for three days now.
Ayo killed it, and learning more about Tina was beautiful. Liza killed it too. ❤🎉

I’m glad I’m not the only one thinking this season was a bit weak. But there is a difference between weak and bad, and if this is the lowest the Bear has reached, I can rest easy knowing it will never have a bad season or a bad episode.
This episode marked the first time we even saw Mikey IN the beef working and just being around.
Napkins is right up there with forks.

Brilliant episode. For me, the two emotional highpoints of this series are Tina's conversation with Mikey, and Sugar's conversation with Donna. The former involves a character who took his own life; the latter a character who is about to give birth. Incredible writing.

Yeah she did great with this episode!
I think you make a good point that Tina and Mikey were super close, and they were both able to open up to each other in ways they couldn’t with other people….bbbuuuutttt in Carmy’s monologue in the meeting in season 1, he said Mikey made everyone feel like he was their best friend.
The way Liza cried in between her bites and laughter with Mike, was so fricken real. She is a great actress. My heart was tearing up for her. I am getting emotional just thinking about it again. This season was definitely its weakest, it was rushed, but it still had great episodes and moments. I loved this episode, and the one with Sugar and her mom in the hospital.

The part where she tasted the beef sandwich for the first time after getting hired by Michael.
The creators and actors in this show are so great they make this one of the best series I've ever watched.
i like how during the scenes where she looks for a job and goes for interviews, we get shots of her cooking foreshadowing her passion for it in the future
This episode was sooo relatable. This is EXACTLY how the job hunt goes and how you land up at a job thats for You. It was so uplifting and cathartic. I feel like the episodes that came after just did not have the same level of impact. This season was rather underwhelming. Maybe i went in with lot of excitement and expectations.

Joel Mchale did an amazing job as the narcissist boss who doesn't give a shit but kind of does. Also Jamie Lee Curtis was an absolute standout and I wouldn't be surprised if she gets an Emmy nom for this
This episode hits hard if you look at the grander picture, it actually made me cry. Especially when you pay attention to everything Michael says during his talk/interview with Tina knowing his eventual fate.
I loved it when Tina, down and out and just defeated, first sits down and takes a bite of the sandwich. She has a look like it’s disgusting (representing her situation, not the food). Then she just has a human chat with Mikey and is eventually offered a job. Someone was finally willing to give her a shot, recognize and just hear her. No resumes, interviews or formalities, just a real conversation. Then after the next bite, she looks like it’s the best sandwich she’s ever had!
This episode also explains why Tina was so hostile towards Sydney when the latter first started working at The beef due to the employment issues as highlighted in this episode. Also the friendship Tina had with Michael and how important the latter was to her.
That episode’s entire sequence of her dropping off resumes at various places and also the way that all of those people were treating her was beyond infuriating.
Easily the best episodes: Fishes, Forks, and Napkins.

I really resonated with this episode as I sometimes feel like I'm in Tina's shoes also. As a 50+ year old woman, it's so hard to compete with younger hungrier young people in my profession and it really knocks your confidence. I thought this episode was beautifully done and you can really understand why Tina was so resistant to Carmy and Syd changes in the beginning as it was disrupting the memory of the connection she had with Michael, someone who helped her at her lowest point. This was a standout episode for me in Season 3
Loved everything about this episode... more than any other this season; and there were other great ones. Thanks for the excellent review. Just found you. Following now :)

I must admit the exchange between Mikey and Tina was captivating- two people bearing their souls and Mikey’s keen observation being so kind to offer Tina a job. Mikey telling exactly how it is at the Beef, he was being brutally honest.
I like how Mike wanted to comfort her when he saw Tina crying That shows he had a big heart for all of the employees at The Beef
In addition to Tina's beautiful character development you also got a glimpse of what was going on in Mickey's mind... absolute cinema
This kind of episode focusing on one of the people in the show was why season 2 was soooo good. and we only got 1 episode of it in season 3. people like character-driven storytelling. and this was truly the only ep in season 3 that i did not pause or stopped watching to do something else.
@BrainPilot

Yeah it's a shame!
4:22 slight disagreement about this statement. Mikey was such a people person, Carmen said himself back in season 1, Mikey was everybody's best friend, and that he was extremely magnetic. Another time in season 1, Tina tells Carmen a story about trying to get Mikey to order napkins, and she remembered how out of character it was for him to be so dismissive, pessimistic, and closed off. the fact that he never talked about his drug abuse to anyone, despite obviously struggling, is why everybody froze up, "He was Mikey Bear, I thought he would pull out of it."
Perfect analysis

i love this little parallel between both opposites, skillwise, Michael and Terry saying they do it for the people, food is just a sidenote.
Was great- showed an era & the working person. Got to see Mikey’s charm. Liza was amazing so intense in her emotions a real hustler- love her!
When Mikey says highly about his brother after showing a photo - "he knows what to do with his life". That strucks me! We know Carmy has very little certainties in his life! 😢
John bernthal is a great actor and he was perfect in this episode. Although a flashback it really puts meat on the bones of her story. I am really enjoying series 3 despite the varied reviews.
Great episode in an underwhelming if still enjoyable season. They are making 3&4 back to back though so I got a big part 1 of 2 vibe from season 3.

@@BrainPilot His run on The Bear has been Emmy worthy I think. I mean, a lot of people discount him as an actor, but he is really good.
It was a wonderful episode. I also couldn't stand Tina's character at first but I gradually warmed to her. This back story showed who she really was and why she was so protective of the original Beef restaurant. Her story must be a carbon copy of so many proud, hard working people who are spat back into a labour market, that simply doesn't want them.
Tina has a similarity to a character on BURNT just don’t forget my shoutout 😂
I gotta admit I was feeling very antsy during the solo episodes this season to get back to the story at hand because it felt like so little was moving forward w our main characters relationships w each other. I already knew Mikey gave Tina this job when she struggled to make ends meet. I wasn’t hanging on every line of dialogue for this lore episode like I was with Fishes for example. I thought it was bold to do a whole episode of hospital bed contractions w Sugar and Donna and their performances were incredible, but I couldn’t help my mind wandering to the wider story of the show when I’m supposed to be rly focused on these intimate real time conversations.
Cool to show us how she got there it was pretty awesome
