I won't lie... and I forgot to mention it in this video, but when I originally saw a screenshot of him as Batman, I thought he looked like a cosplayer. Even for a moment there in the movie it felt like that. But then it quickly all made sense. It's a real-world type of Batman. The suit doesn't look perfect because it's made for performance, not style. So the look of it is a good suit. It also helps that the man behind the mask absolutely steals the scenes he's in. Makes you understand the mind set of a vigilante.

Loved your review, also it's directed by Matt Reeves. He's one of the best (and underrated) blockbuster directors in Hollywood right now. His biggest strength that even Christopher Nolan doesn't have, is that he goes after the emotions over the spectacle. This is a 3 hour Batman film and it literally has 4-5 action scenes. And all of that lack of huge set pieces is replaced by great character work that truly makes Gotham feel like a real city where some of the shittiest people you know, live. Matt has been on the radar of many people in Hollywood after his Ape films but this film will shoot him into the stratosphere.

Is The Batman better than The Dark Knight? No, it's not. It does capture the comic book "atmosphere" and "feel" of a darker Gotham better, and the punching and fighting is definitely more brutal and satisfying, BUT Nolan's movies each have better writing, pacing, and execution than The Batman. I'm just going to list out some of my thoughts/reasons below, and remember these are my opinions, so feel free to tell me what y'all think: FIRST and FOREMOST... I really enjoyed the movie and can't wait for the next installment in this Reeve's universe. There is a lot of potential. but this is an argument about why The Dark Knight is better... so I wanted to get that out of the way first. #1 - I just don't see what the Riddler accomplished other than a chaotic event, which is thwarted by Batman anyway. He doesn't even expose the corruption in the city! Which was his main motivation for taking out Bruce Wayne and other corrupt officials! Why exactly was his final step to just have his followers shoot Bella Real and everyone in the crowd? Riddler kicked off his plan by taking out corrupt officials and exposing the corruption to Batman and Gordon, but he just stops doing that for some reason? Why wouldn't he somehow expose that corruption to the MASS population of Gotham??? Instead, he decided to flood the city, which we conveniently learn is surrounded by a sea wall at the end of the movie, and kill a bunch of people. Pretty inconsistent if you ask me. I get that he thought he was going to "cleanse" Gotham by exposing that corruption to Batman, which is why he felt that they were working together, but his grand finale was a left turn from what he had been building. #2 - In my opinion, the plot in The Batman was a little corny, and I didn't think the Riddler was all that special. He just seemed like another villain who tries to talk all crazy like Ledger's Joker...His riddles were corny too, and I laughed in the theater at how Pattinson's Batman NAILED the answer to them pretty much immediately, except for one I believe. It just felt way too easy at times for Batman. NOW, the riddler did have a super badass moment with that stunt he pulled at the funeral. Crashing that car into the event was awesome, and the time bomb strapped to his victim was the most intense scene in the movie for me. Which, is not really a good thing, mind you. Because it was better than the movie's later stages when the movie is supposed to climax. #3 - I felt that while I watched The Dark Knight, The Joker's actions MOVED and controlled the story & started a chain reaction of decisions for EVERY character, including Gotham City's population as a whole. The Joker was getting stronger and stronger with each move he made, and you could feel that in the back of your mind, even when he wasn't on screen. The Riddler honestly disappeared a lot in The Batman while other characters were shown on screen, I forgot all about what the Riddler was trying to do... the best example of this is while Catwoman was trying to figure her out her story/background with her parents and her friend. Which is just a testament to how well written and tightly executed and paced The Dark Knight was. The Batman seemed to get a little loose with all the different stories it was trying to tell. #4 - Furthermore, don't forget that in The Dark Knight, the Joker WON! The Joker took down Harvey Dent, who was the BEST hope that Gotham had had in years. (Yes, Batman is obviously a net positive for Gotham, but Harvey Dent could have created a new era of peace and hope. Batman couldn't do it forever, OR as effectively as Harvey could have). Joker wanted to corrupt the incorruptible, therefore draining any hope that Gotham had. While he failed to do that with Batman, he succeeded with the biggest symbol of hope in Harvey Dent. In The Batman, the Riddler didn't really create a lasting effect on the characters, like the Joker did with Batman/Bruce and Jim Gordon. Joker's effectiveness was further cemented when Gordon's cover-up was revealed too (in the The Dark Knight Rises). For 8 long years the Joker was still killing the insides of Jim Gordon and Batman. (Remember, Batman becomes public enemy #1 after he took the fall for killing Dent and Dent's victims). #5 - The casting in Nolan's movies was prettttty much unbeatable. Like, those were BIG-time actors in supporting roles. I just felt the acting was better in Nolan trilogy, especially in The Dark Knight. More believable too. Everybody in The Batman just feels too young to me. I don't know, I just felt that I took the characters in the Dark Knight more seriously. I'm not just talking about Heath Ledger either. The Batman's Jim Gordon was very dull and uninteresting to me, and Gary Oldman's portrayal of Jim Gordon was 10x better in the Nolan trilogy. ALSO, MORGAN F*CKING FREEMAN, enough said. #6 - Catwoman's Russian friend serves no purpose in the movie. Like, what was the point of her? To me, it was just an excuse to show that Catwoman can break into safe's and she can be sneaky (when she went to look for her friend's passport). Catwoman's personal quest (her dad) in The Batman just always felt like a deviation from the story, and it didn't really provide anything to the overall goal of the film. She was at her best when she was working with Batman and helping him untangle the mystery of the corruption between the Government and the Mob. I don't really get why we needed to find out that her dad was Falcone, it added nothing, other than showing that Batman does not approve of killing (when he stops her from executing Falcone). #7 - The political figure, Bella Real, was pretty much pointless in the movie. What was she all about? I literally cannot remember a meaningful thing she did in the movie. Maybe she'll be a bigger focus in the following movies & TV shows in the universe. Give me Harvey Dent's political motivations and character development over her all day. Why did Riddler want her assassinated? All we know about her is that she won an election. That's it. So it made no sense why she was the target in the grand finale. #8 - Hear me out with this one... The Batman uses Alfred as a crutch and an exposition dumper. He only served as a "close relative/friend in danger" role in the movie, and he just dumps exposition about Carmine Falcone and Thomas Wayne when he wakes up. The Dark Knight had Michael Caine's Alfred as a teacher/moral mentor, and you could tell he had been Bruce's loving caregiver... I didn't get that emotional feeling from Alfred in The Batman. BUT I guess one could argue that Alfred was not an important part for The Batman. So, just giving my opinion on that. #9- Another thing Nolan's movies do better is providing motivation and development for the characters. Did anyone feel like Pattinson's Wayne underwent any development in that movie? Batman DOES. At the end he leads those people to safety, and he starts to earn the trust of the people of Gotham. The whole movie, I struggled to see what Pattinson's Wayne was motivated by. He was just a buzzkill the entire movie. I get that he's a young Bruce Wayne who's still becoming a man, but no development was made in my opinion. Batman YES, Bruce Wayne NO., is what I'm saying. Maybe I feel that way because The Batman doesn't give any sort of origin story, I don't know. Again, these are just my thoughts. Bruce Wayne is supposed to a billionaire, by the way. You probably didn't know that from watching The Batman. If you had never seen a Batman movie before, you would not know that Bruce Wayne inherited a billion-dollar company from watching that movie. We are TOLD that Bruce Wayne is a billionaire (when Bella Real asks Bruce to use his resources for philanthropy) but we are SHOWN in Nolan Trilogy. Another win for Bale's Wayne, in my opinion. Maybe in the next movie they show this off more. #10 - Finally, I think the fact that Matt Reeve's Batman universe doesn't really have an "origin" story is going to hurt the franchise for ME. Nolan built a GREAT foundation for character motivation with Batman Begins, and the League of Shadows was a perfect place to start for Bruce Wayne. From then onward, we see Bruce Wayne grow as a man and as Batman. In The Batman, we are just kind of thrown into Batman operating in Gotham city. And I felt that the movie struggled to dive deep into its characters and develop its plot-lines because there really wasn't much of a foundation to jump off of. The movie felt a little bloated to me. END OF SPEECH. I enjoyed the Batman y'all. This long ass novel of a comment may seem like I'm hating, but I'm not. It's just.... I saw greatness with The Dark Knight, and even some in The Dark Knight Rises (Bane's revival of the League of Shadows and takeover of Gotham is awesome. Bane literally took Batman's home away from him, and it's the ultimate enemy for Bruce Wayne, given that he started his journey to a hero as a MEMBER of the League of Shadows). There's a reason that The Dark Knight is currently NUMBER 3 on the ALL-TIME movie rankings on IMDb. So, those are my thoughts, and yes I am a film nerd and I fixate on little things probably too much. The Batman = 8/10 The Dark Knight = 9.9/10 (because no movie is without sin)

Definitely a really great performance but it doesn’t beat the dark knight trilogy yet, in my opinion nothing will be better than christian bale and Heath ledgers performance

@@Davidsweirdness I mean, this is pretty much the same as any other critique of Batman as a character. Why would people assume that a billionaire would be wasting his time being a vigilante? That thought wouldn't even really appear in their heads. First off, the stare shouldn't be recognizable, black ink surrounding his eyes covers everything except for his eye balls so everyone's stare would really look the same unless they're asian, that would be recognizable (I'm asian so it's not racist). "Same vibe" well, from the viewer's perspective, they both act quite similarly. But if you're a person right there, I don't think the vibe of you standing next to someone wearing bulletproof armor and a mask is the same as some billionaire not wearing one. I don't think his voice is the exact same, when he's Batman his voice got a bit raspier. Like when you see him screaming what have you done, his voice definitely got a tad bit deeper. While the contrast between his voice and Batman isn't as big as Christian Bale's, I think it's a worthy sacrifice to not make sound way too deep that you need subtitles to have any idea what he's saying.

I really thought no one could top Nolan’s Batman! Bale was awesome and Pattinson comes close really close but now Reeve’s Batman brings a whole new dynamic to The Batman! I grew up reading the comic books of Batman world’s greatest detective so I felt that’s what Reeve’s brought back. Excellent Batman movie by far at least for me. Pattinson really outdid himself!! Looking forward to making this a part of my collection. Thanks for the view and being forthcoming about this movie!! I actually saw it 3x already!! =)

The Batman is the Batman film I never knew I wanted and Battinson is now my favourite live action Batman by far. It's also a legimitately great film. What I love about Matt Reeves' filmmaking is how character-focused it is. The film featured a good crime thriller/detective story, but at the end of the day it was about exploring the broken psyche of Bruce Wayne, his growth from symbol of vengeance to symbol of hope, and what it means to be a hero. Close to a 10/10 movie for me - seen it 6 times and it still hasn't gotten old.

I personally don't understand why everyone is so worried about it. Come on, can't we just enjoy a movie anymore without having to take a side? many people are simply wanting to downgrade Nolan's work for no apparent reason, just to have a kind of "side" for which they can stand up to others. For many people, a consecrated trilogy, critical and public success became a fiasco because... no reason! do people really want to be on one side and confront an enemy even in the movies?

Taste is subjective. But what is not subjective is the FACT that TDK is a much better movie than The Batman is. Which is by no means a bad movie, but it's not even close. The Dark Knight is a masterpiece, The Batman is good movie.

Honestly I don't know why people are comparing these 2 movies, both are great and I love both of them. I have some issues with both of them and I like some elements from both of them, in the end their 2 great movies and I'm just happy that these movies are getting made cus I'm a huge batman fan and seeing these two masterpieces on the big screen is just so surreal so yea.

Nolan really succeeded in portraying the Batman as a symbol, an entity of fear. Bale is no doubt the best Batman, he was amazingly cooler, slightly arrogant, a true dark knight.

A lot of actual detective scenes where Gordon and Batman work together to solve crimes. So yeah, I guess it did remind me of Gotham a bit too. Along with the grim world of Gotham and it's dark, broken characters.

When it comes to movies and tv I wish they would do more with The Punisher.

Only ever knew Pattinson for his role in Twilight, but I never judged him when it was revealed he was playing Batman. From what I’ve seen he’s been in many great films since then like The Lighthouse. Along with that Past experiences with actors like Heath ledger should prove as a lesson not too jump to conclusions about casting, and instead see things through. Pattinson truly embodies the worlds greatest detective, and his performance throughout the Batman was phenomenal. I sincerely hope he’s offered more chances to continue playing The Batman, because he nailed the role.

While I do think The Batman is a more genuine BAT_MAN movie in its true comic-book essence, I still think, hands down, that The Dark Knight is a much better film. They're robots parroting the sales pitch ... They're ridiculous ..."cinematic masterpiece" 🙄.. I think they're just dumb kids who bought something so they're pretending to enjoy it. This thing won't be talked about in a decade like Nolan's movies. It's incredibly mediocre.

@@prettyboyg1278 Yeah story wise, I felt The Batman just didn't have a compelling ending. Dark Knight had a freaking amazing ending. Batman realizing that in order to "beat" the Joker he had to take the blame for all of Two-Face's murders. In The Batman, Batman doesn't even really beat The Riddler. And, I feel like the key message of The Batman isn't even addressed until the last 20 minutes. While the main theme of The Dark Knight is there from the very beginning. Yes, visually, The Batman was beautiful. But, I felt there were a few weak characters that brought it down. Falcone, for being such a key part to the story, just wasn't that intimidating. Colin Ferrell = Amazing. Robert Pattinson = best Batman, weakish Bruce Wayne. I'd say The Batman is my 2nd favorite Batman movie just because of how beautiful it was. Character was very authentic to the comics, but ending and message were weaker for sure.

The soundtrack was amazing and the writing was good enough for Riddler. He simply can't be as good as the Joker. I don't think it's possible to make Riddler any better without changing his core motivations and stuff.

@@achyuththouta6957 The soundtrack was terrible. It kept repeating the same tune over and over. There was no emotion. You can have your opinion on that. People have different tastes. The Riddler (the actor) was bad and unconvincing. Gotham's riddler was way better, and that was a simple TV show.

Not really. Lady Arkham and Riddler are nothing alike. Yes they wanna show how corrupt Gotham truly is but Riddler is a serial killer and Lady Arkham is a terrorist. Bruce has the playboy personality in the Telltale games but 2022 version doesn’t have that personality yet. Just because both are dark doesn’t mean they are exactly the same basically.

No it's not, it's just because it's new. Wait a few more years then to the comparison again.

No I think it’s quite the opposite, people are nostalgia blinded towards the dark knight - Heath is good, bale is okay, but it’s definitely not a masterpiece.

It's an insult to even compare this boring film to Dark knight master piece and box office saying the same and the people really, back then nobody said Dark night was bad but now it's like 50/50. Dark knight had over 1 billion world wide in box office and this 730 million and on opening day The Batman was only the 4 best box office Batman movie, says it all.... We Can not even compare this to the Nolan movies.... Like I sat down and watched a 3 hour movie and literally nothing happened in comparison, like 2 or 3 some what cool scenes that's it, low budget? while in Dark knight you had action times 100 with crazy things happeneing really big budget scenes... The theme, how Dark it was all the time, and really boxed in movie not this open world like we see in Dark knight for example, so many different locations diffrent times on the day while this one was really dark and boxed in. When it comes to the actors not everyone was great while in Dark knight you had the best of Hollywood in those films and several of them as well. The story line, same old story with batman as a detective solving crimes again like a police officer almost, we have seen that so many times before, that is just boring and not up to date, this movie looks like a Batman movie from the 90's in a way and Dark knight looks like the new Batman movie... The suit this retro old school leather mask, did not feel it and how comical it looked like almost like watching a cartoon movie. The batman himself, when you saw Bale as batman you really felt like this is fucking Batman when you saw this i did not feel that, more like a guy in a suit and the fact that he only fought against street bums also was really boring and disapoiting. Feels like they going backwards with this film like the Batman movies we had back in the day while Dark knight was Batman more in the future who broke out from this detective old school batman, they should have followed up from Dark knight.... But for what it was i give it 6 out of 10.

Wait what? I don’t get this hype. Saw it a few hours back and I never felt so disappointed in a Batman film. It gets the detective stuff right but my main problem is the messaging behind it. Spoilers If Gotham had an issue with corruption I’m certain that the Real person would be no better, why not show her side plot to be a novice that has members as involved with the Falcone but then she goes out and says. “It’s time we stop cowering” in a tense situation where multiple snipers are present, in fact Gotham seems to be inconsistent with securing premises, first it was an extremely cautious public with the church so what was the issue here? Why didn’t the officers just fire on the snipers when Batman was there? It would be a nice moment to establish the no kill rule, not just because of his lack of need to kill but there he can see he wants a second chance. I think I’ll make a wall of text, keep in mind all this movie had to do was present me a Batman, it didn’t work for me besides a few shots. I respect the appeal to the execution of Batman but that runtime was just not right to me and my 4 mates. We all disliked it and I kept talking with them and I seem to really dislike it.

Dark knight was a more solid story

Seriously what is wrong with people I understand film perception are subjective but how tf do kids even think the Batman is close to dark knight??? Like for real I watched the Batman the first night it came out and was so hyped but left the cinema being like what a waste of time. The acting was horrendous im not talking about Batman or cat woman but the supporting cast. It was beyond terrible falcone is a fucking crime boss meant to be terrifying but in Batman he’s a joke penguin makes it even more cringe and the riddler interrogation was one of the most cringy scenes I’ve seen. Like bruh he starts singing ffs😂. People these days are really letting mediocre films be so overrated. No way home was trash, Batman was mid tier but are considered better than dark knight lmao.

I was beyond disappointed and I went the first day it was released especially as a Batman fanatic and the fact marvel is fucking trash. The Batman is in no way near close to any of the Nolan’s trilogy simple as. The acting was ducking cringe u heard that right and no not from Batman or cat woman but the supporting cast were terrible falcone and Penguin were awful. U know how scary and powerful falcone is meant to be???? Compare it to this. If u even think for a second the Batman comes close to the dark knight u are just stupid simple as 😂 dark knight is considered one of the greatest films of all time. The Batman ain’t even in top 5 best superhero films. Also btw to clarify the Batman still shits on every marvel films but doesn’t come close to the hype

Do not bring young kids lmao. I must've accidentally cut it out of this video but there was a father with his daughter right in front of us. She was maybe 8 or 9 years old. They lasted the entire movie but at times she had to sit on his lap and seemed a bit scared lmao

The greatest Batman movies are Tim Burton's the rest are trash 🗑️,vi don't know about this one, I haven't seen it yet, but it looks boring

People are really blinded by nostalgia. TDK is kinda meh and it was carried by the Joker. Reviews say that they didn't like The Batman bcos there wasn't any fancy gadgets, and that Roberts fighting style was repetitive. They don't understand that it's year 2 batman.

I'm not saying racism doesn't exist but Catwoman certainly didn't suffer from not being born white atleast based on what they said in the movie. She simply blamed everyone else for her situation, took 0 responsibility and was sending a wrong message overall..

The Batman is dull as dirt ... Probably the worst version we've ever had, even Shumacher's as bad as it is was at least fun to laugh at.... This is just a long ass drawn out pretentious movie with a thin convoluted story given to us mostly in exposition with bad dialog. Ripped off David Fincher style visuals and stupid action sequences. People are like robots parroting the critics with this thing "cinematic masterpiece" ... What a joke! 😂 The Batman is extremely mediocre ... Batman Begins destroys this trash.

How dare you. you fkn shame for the real batman fans LMAO xD That movie is so fuckin plaine, no good story, even PG 13 no fkn blood... took out the entire soul of the movie. I would have loved this movie if they went all in Tarantino style. Its a kids movie 'The Batman' is handcuffed by its family-friendly PG rating, the result being something like a 'Saw' movie made for Disney+.

There have been multiple reasons why the batman is better. Most people who think so I'm sure agree with the statements this guy makes. However, I have yet to hear an actual sound argument as to why people still think the dark knight is still better.
