Why The Audi RS3 Is The ULTIMATE HOT HATCH...FAREWELL M140i!

So why is the Audi RS3 the Ultimate Hot Hatch?
The BMW M140i. That’s it really. BMW, like Audi made one serious little hot hatch with if we’re being honest, more power than we actually need! However it’s 2024 and the M140i ceased production over 5 years ago, leaving the track going hot hatch section to Hyundai, Ford and course the VAG cars. This Audi RS3 in Daytona grey of course has the unique sounding 2.5 litre 5 pot engine which puts out around 400bhp and 500nm giving you a 0-60mph in the wet of 3.72 seconds! Name me a hot hatch that can do that! 😮
Now the Audi RS section always bring us seriously fast cars with striking good looks but we can’t skip past the looks of this thing from the grill, wheels, seats (hello yoko) and of course the virtual cockpit which isn’t space hogging skateboard unlike others 👀 Additionally, there are some real standout features of the RS3 in particular the drive modes which change how the car sounds, rides and more importantly corners. This is due to the new “Torque Rear” mode which lets the splitter send 100 per cent of rear torque to the outside wheel alone, to initiate a slide or corner harder. It’s quite clever in that it knows when you’re trying to give it a Scandinavian flick vs pushing on and immediately decides to moving the torque side-to-side to help you look like a hero! 👏
Now day to day expect to see mid to high 20s in stop start driving and on motorways driving like a granny you’ll get 30mpg easy but it’s very difficult to stay in the high 30s due to the fact that you’ll often be tempted to drop a gear and go as soon as an opportunity arises just to hear that 5 pot growl 🦁
So why do I believe the Audi RS3 leads the hatch back market bearing in mind this is the outgoing version and new version is imminent? It has Quattro meaning all weather performance, a torque rear function to get rid of the understeer which is much needed when on track, it has stayed true to the ‘look’ of an Audi with no oversizing or downsizing of the grills and finally the right amount of power without leaving the driver wanting more!

No real comparison, RS is the equivalent of bmw M, not M lites. This is where bmw messed up. They should have done more for the M140i. Them RS are lethal, this RS3 looks amazing.

For half the price you can buy one of these, you can buy a modified m140i with all the trimmings ( modifications) that would outshine one of these in every single way EXCEPT a country lanes with tight corners but I would take that as a blessing as you in the 140i won’t be going head first into a tractor

Noooooo . I embarrassed a new rs3 the other day on the motorway in my m140. Felt sorry for him as overtook him with ease. But I am running stage 2 plus from Mike ball 😂

Yes Tim. One of the nicest Audis you’ve featured. The RS is superb. Performance, style, looks, build quality is outstanding. It looked such fun to drive.

    A 10+ year old designed m140i vs a new RS3 design and the RS3 wins out 🤷‍♀️

Try a merc a45s thats a contender, i test drove both the rs3 8y and the merc a45s and i bought the merc a45s . The M140i isn't even close to those 2 . It has a good engine but nothing else really

Had both a few years ago (4years ago) and l personally would choose the M140 with no hesitation and put a £50,000 deposit on a house or something 😁

Love the RS3 it’s always been at the top! Would love to see some better colours like the old Sepang Blue. Next on my list for a drivers car which is not really a hot hatch anymore IMO is the FL5 Honda Civic. The 140i are a beautiful thing it would scare the sh!t out of me tbh.

I mean, you can easily have a m140i for sub 20k right atm and I’ve seen new rs3’s for close to 70k.
