I still have my DOCOMO sim running under Airtel. I was so sad that day when I inserted my sim in my home phone and saw Airtel. I really missed those days where we can recharge 10 ₹and no worries of sim card deactivation even if not used for months

Tata Docomo was good, but uninor/telenor was emotion. 🥺🥺

Tata indicom CDMA was present way before Docomo. Docomo came as GSM services. They brought first 3G services in india and due to a tech glitch i used to enjoy their 3g with 2g recharge. Also their Tata photon was blazing fast in 2010's era.

I have an tata docomo dongle back then in 2009 . Nostalgic moment 🙃

Docomo to reliance to vodafone to jio now. Docomo days were golden days. Rs15 500 mb for 3 days.

Imo, tata never lost, tata never competes in a dense competition market where there is a lot of blood shed for money, and it was just a few years back when jio was launched, Tata closed it's operation(maybe an insider deal). Also as per Tata's legacy tata does the best when it does, or either it doesn't. I used Tata for a long time and the call quality was top notch even in remote areas.

Not only 'Per Second' also 'Two Years Incoming Free' offered by Tata Docomo..

I still have a Docomo sim. Had purchased it in 2012. Finally i ported it to Jio in Aug 2017. Jio sim with Docomo number series, this is the only memory i have been left with Docomo.

My first SIM was Tata Docomo .. and still using it as Airtel .. top notch at that time ..

There many things wrong communicated. Firstly TATA launched limited mobility services with CDMA technology way before they joined hands with DOCOMO. Additionally CDMA had better data speeds than GSM, As the bandwidth of frequency used in CDMA was greater than frequency used in GSM. DOCOMO was primarily into GSM.

One difference between Jio and Docomo is Jio's technology was future ready but Docomo's technology was not.

jio has futuristic technology. jio is a solid data network based 100% on optic fiber with virtualization of network..jio cost is much much lower than others...that is why even with slightly lower ARPU jio has much more net profit per quarter( Rs 4500 crore) where airtel makes only rs 800 crore that too very recently. otherwise all telcos other than jio had been making Huge losses. tata docomo did not have that....mukesh ambani realized well ahead that data would be oil of the future..so he saw 15 years ahead.....

Jio is simply shit

Mobile porting option is also one of the factor which was not available at Docomo time which was a plus point for Jio. Due to this customers hesitate to change their primary mobile numbers

Even tata Indicom had some mobile phones from haier Huawei and Motorola CDMA Handsets and they were quite cheap starting from 800 rupees

People had too many sim cards at that time. In those days you didn't require Adhar card or KYC to get a new sim. Just one passport photo and Xerox of Ration card was enough to get a new sim that too within 50 Rupees (20 for Sim and 30 for talktime).

It will be very hard to do that. Airtel and VI are already at brink. Even if company decide to lower down initial prices like JIO did, they won't have capital for future upgradation. Also , other telecom companies has to reduce prices in order to survive and VI will.not have any other options but to shut down their business. Even it TATA or any brand come up with such decision, govt. will interfere to save VI and in order to save VI, govt. will block TATAs this lower pricing move.

I remember it was Rainy season and me and my Father went to take Phone we took Idea and we took BPL card but then some idiot relative told us to go for Idea card and also the shopkeeper told us to go for Idea since then I'm using idea. And we still have the same number which we purchased in 2004. Once u shifted tk Shitty Airtel postpaid and then never ever thought of going for Airtel. Those days were so memorable man.

Woh din yad aagye yar... Mere ko tata docomo ka sim miltha 2GB pure sal keliye... Aur mein engineering ke 3rd year tak customer tha unka. Lekin Airtel ke sath merge hone ka bad tabse same no airtel ka use kr raha hoon. TATA Docomo was just awesome cheap internet & calling.

This company has very special place in my heart. I still remember my docomo number. Yes .the per sec charging was first time. I remember earlier even when I gave miss call and person picked up you would loose money. I used mobile net for first time with this sim. Ranbir Kapoor used to add of this company.

I guess the research on the topic was a lot weaker. We had the walky (wireless landline from Indicom). It was way before Docomo came in the picture. To be honest we were very happy with the performance of walky and till 2010 we were using it. Tata Docomo came in as GSM only if i remember correctly. I still remember the cdma handsets indicom use to provide (kyocera), which were far better than RIM handsets ( not Research In Motion but Reliance India Mobile). It was just that indian customers werent ready to be locked to one service provider which was the case with CDMA then, till SIM based CDMA came. Still there were very few handsets and none of them were as exciting as the GSM ones. Tata Docomo didnt fail because of one reason but many. I guess if TTSL comes back in the market they will do much better this time.
