There's nothing "weird" about delta wing design. It's just another engineering solution with own strengths and weakness, like any other. Besides, F-117 took weirdness for another level already.

Delta wings super maneuverable, no doubt. Excellent for the first, maybe second turn. Delta wing planes, however, do loose an incredible amount of air speed (and energy)with turning maneuvers. All that being said, the Swedish Gripen is still awesome. Super combat effective, and all for a sweet price. The Eurofighter Typhoon, ehh. Costs 40 million more than an F-35.

@@jayklink851 When we say maneuverable the first think we have in mind is the short turns, a delta wing turns way better than a regular big heavy plane like the F35. If he has canards he turns even faster.

I'm not trying to be difficult, but I'm halfway through the video and the question of why Advanced European Fighter Jets are 'weird-looking' wasn't mentioned. Did I miss it? What does it mean by 'weird'? Is it just acknowledging that the Eurofighter Typhoon, French Rafale, and Saab Gripen appear similar due to a delta-wing-and-canard configuration? So the question would just be, "Why do European air forces favor delta-wings?" ... or "Why doesn't the US use delta-wing fighters?" I Googled it, and basically there are some advantages and disadvantages to delta-wings, and the US's fighting doctrine is one that doesn't favor a delta-wing. Pretty much that's it.

The UK only uses jets from the Eurofighter Typhoon, F35B and BAE Hawk series. You even had a photo of an older Mirage instead of Rafale at one point in the video.

They are also built 100ft underground. They are incapable of stall and can land in and take off from any highway or road in Sweden. It can Super cruse and can fly at Mach 1.9.

Mirage III was very successful fighter in the 1960s.

Gripen is a pack hunter using digital link to lots of other gripen, ships, satelites, drones and more. That is what makes it so good and unique.

It’s not unique though, all modern Western jets utilise MIDS for the exact same process, All have sensor fusion too

Video showed the Mig 29 in a clip when talking about the Gripen and showed a Mirage 2000 in a clip when talking about the Rafale. Nice footage otherwise ...but wouldn't take much to check first.

If you’re going to create 15 minute content about aircraft, one would assume that you would research the material enough to know how to pronounce the name correctly. The Gripen is pronounced as Greepen and The Rafale as Ra-Fahl. Weird looking? Both are stunning aircraft

European defense departments favor the delta wing design, but the European fighter creates a lot of hurdles. the two fighters were probably the SAAB Gripen suit which was produced around the 1970s and the Eurofighter Typhoon.

Both Rafale and Mirage 2000 are simply gorgeous and I believe it it is beyond personal taste. Grippen is another story and may be a little unusual design but thats ok

That sim display is fantastic, as long as your enemy stays in front of you.

Good question, which occurred to me too. "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder!" Pity the video paid scant attention to the Typhoon, arguably the most capable of the three delta-winged European front line jet fighters. All three of them are Meteor missile capable, something no US jet can match, as the Meteor is significantly more effective than anything the US jet carry, eg AMRAAM. However, as they are all NATO aircraft it is not such a serious issue. Added to them, the US bring plenty to the party as well, and as a combined force is pretty damn capable. In fact there is NOTHING in the world that comes even close!

I think the SU30 and SU34 are ugly having both canards and horizontal stabilizers. The Gripen, Rafale and Typhoon look good.

Out of the Rafale, Typhoon and Gripen, the only one able to land on a US carrier (and take off) is the Rafale that is also a nice detail to add for cooperation and interoperation needs.

Gripen E also has Maritime version with hook for aircraft carriers. Gripen C do less than 500 feet STOL on airshows witch is less than half the length of USS Gerald R. Ford.

I think anyone looking at an F-35 would have to say you've picked the wrong market to be talking about weird looking jets.

The Rafale has an almost T-shaped fuselage, smaller engines, with a far wider build, shorter wings, and 2 air intakes under the wing, whilst the Eurofighter has a triangular frontal profile, nose-mounted Canards, and larger wings on a more slender body Looking at them side-by-side makes them look nothing like, and they preform on different standards, too

Funny you consider Euro jets weird in some way. From the US, I always thought Euro fighters were exotic and extremely advanced.

At 5:32, it's not a Rafale but a Mirage 2000 previously built by Dassault in the 70's. Most propably a 2000D which is a 2 seater bomber still in used in France and other countries. Other variants are 2000C fighter, and 2000N nuclear strike bomber replaced by the Rafale. The Rafale, howerver is a multirole fighter with a naval variant (Rafale M for Marine) that can be used in both french and american aircraft carriers as they are equipped with the same type of catapult.

and also the 2000B which is a C varient but with 2 seats. at some point the mirage was a multirole aircraft, it has variants but it keeps the same airframe. however it can't perform 2 or 3 mission at the time like the rafale

The JAS 39 looked very familiar to anyone who had seen its predecessor, the JA 37. Just sleeker and without the thrust reverse system.

It’s because they’re collaborations of dozens of different viewpoints and aimed at trying to satisfy a dozen different requirements.

YF 23 wing configuration for a vertical double engine with unified exhaustion with two dimensional thrust vector aircraft.

I actually find some of the European fighter designs interesting, especially these days when everyone else seems to be trying to dress up as an F-22. (not knocking the US planes. The F-14 Tomcat is pretty much my all time favourite fighter, at least aesthetically, followed by Russia's Su 47..)

Jeez!!! Just because you think everything revolves around USofA and USA’s famous big fighters (F14, F15, F18, F22, &F35) have twin tails, side intakes, and no canards.

Weird looking? These are Delta design, the most stable aircraft design. Canards and rudders are not only placed at the back. Gripen sort of hammerhead shark with a combination of stingray delta.

“Unique” means One of a kind, so applying the adjective “very” before it is superfluous !

The only thing that looks weird on the Grippen to me is the lack of horizontal-stabilizers at the rear.

As I said some of the Euro fighters, to me anyway, look purty cool.

That's not a unique process. That's manufacturing. Car companies have always done this. I worked in a plant that made jeep seats. Different parts of the F-35 are made in different places and then assembled at an assembly plant.
