"And if you didnt like the video hit the dislike button twice" - pure genius. I didn't know that tap tempo had been added to the console. I bought an atom pad when they came out and use that for tap tempo. Nothing worse than strumming a progression out on the guitar and then having to guess your BPM. My favourite thing about S1 is the integration between hardware and software. I use a 192 studio and a faderport for most of my recording and mixing. Where the faderport has issues with things like adding an Fx to a channel I use the studio one remote app.

I tested so many DAWs between 2 and 3 years ago, when i first got into DAWs. Studio One came out on top for me. My number one reason is that it's pretty straight forward to get around and do what you need to do. Couple that with it's amazing out of the box plugins and instruments and you can't go wrong. I have to admit that I have a soft spot for Reaper and CakeWalk but for everyday usage, it has to be S1.

I like because of all the reasons stated by you. Also, I really like the general ease of workflow and intuitive way it works. It's really stable also. I have also been a Cakewalk user since early 2000's and got into Studio one when Gibson dropped Sonar. (I was a Sonar Platnum user....paid for lifetime updates too ) Picked up Studio One Professional during Black Friday sales in 2017. I like both DAWS. Calewalk is like an old friend. Your videos are great and very informative.

I just started home recording less than a year ago. Someone told me about Audacity, which I have used mainly for editing. Then a friend told me about CakeWalk, so I learned more about plug-ins, and by watching your videos on compression, eq, etc., I made a pretty descent song. Now, another friend told me about Studio One, which appears to be even better than any of the above. I have the Pro version just now installed. Thanks for the intro., moving on to your beginner videos. Thanks for being there... your presentation is world class. Cheers, Bruce from Boulder, CO

I learned on PT Le 8, wanted to upgrade but Avid’s licensing is not customer friendly in my opinion so I tried Reaper, Cakewalk and S1. They all work great but S1 had the most familiar workflow. I really like the drum mapping and beat editing, it’s like they took the best features from all the competitors and put it in one well thought out package. I haven’t used the VCAs yet because I wasn’t too sure how they worked. I’m glad you included that and explained it further. Thanks for the quality content!

I just started with Studio One, moving over from Cakewalk. I just bought a Native Instruments S61 and in Cakewalk I might as well have had a regular MIDI controller, most of the features of the keyboard didn't work. Plus, and it might just be me or my setup, Cakewalk never seemed to remember settings, setups etc so I spent half of my time reconfiguring it instead of recording. So I picked up Studio One, installed it, turned on my hardware, opened S1 and lo and behold it saw everything without me touching a single setting. It's easy to move between soft synth tracks, every feature of my S61 works great and I'm a happy camper and will be watching all of Mike's videos on S1! Thanks!

I still use Cakewalk by BandLab as my main DAW, but have really been enjoying Studio One ever since the version 4 upgrade. Version 4.6 is even better. Cakewalk and Studio One 4.6 Pro will be my go to DAWS for 2020. Thanks for the video.

There are a lot, but I think my favorite is how the routing is solved. You can do whatever you want without having to create complicated return tracks. Take a signal. Split it at 250 Hz. Parallel compress the lower part and slap some EQ on there. Split the upper singal again above 10k. transfer to M/S mode. Add an EQ specifically on everything bove 5k. Add a little stereo widening. Convert the signal back to stereo. Mix all the signals back together. And have a nice and easy graph for that! You didn't have to create even a single additional track or channel. That is just soooo wonderfully powerful and nicely done.

It's not that intuitive and there are quite a fee things that you have to work around or learn to use it. I'm constantly looking in the manual for stuff that should be pretty easy to do with a right click or browsing the menu.

I'm hoping that the interface resolves my issue with Cakewalk but having watched this video I am thinking of switching to Studio one anyway. Drag out an effect and it creates a matching type of track; instrument drag creates an instrument track, audio effect drag creates an audio track automatically. Fast work flow. also very easy to find plugins in side browser. all by vendor on same page. But drag and drop feature to create tracks automatically is the best for me. Protools was much more involved, especially setting up instruments.

I'm 72-year-old music producer who built my studio in 1979. I started MIDI sequencing with Passport software in 1983 and moved to Cakewalk MIDI sequencing software in 1987. I stuck with Cakewalk through the years and up through Sonar-right up until the newer operating systems wouldn't support my version of Sonar anymore. Imagine my delight when I discovered Cakewalk by Bandlab. However, you've recently piqued my interest in PreSonus Studio One 6 via your glowing reviews. But I'm wondering if Studio One's notation editor is going to be a deal breaker for me. I do 50% of my MIDI editing using Cakewalk's staff view as it provides for a quick & robust workflow. What little I've seen online regarding the Studio One 6 notation editor suggests it to be a bloated, unwieldy interface-incapable of right-clicking individual note heads for quick pitch, duration and velocity tweaks. I think your tutorials are the best and would love to see an in depth discussion of the notation editor in Studio One 6.

I'm a longtime Daw user who freelances at various studios. Out of the most popular DAWs out there Cubase is by far my favorite. I know Studio One is designed by some of the same people and seems similar and may be considered a modern offshoot from Cubase with some neat tricks up it's sleeve. This combined with practically no upfront cost subscription pricing no stupid dongle to buy or lose I am considering going with Studio One for my own place, where I'm currently producing instrumentals on FL 20 and Bandlab Cakewalk. In the beginning of the video you said you were also a cubase user among other programs. How do you feel Studio One compares to Cubase. Is there areas you feel are lacking, significantly better, etc? I use Cakewalk at the moment, have been a customer since 12 tones days, However I do run into a lot of issues that staff at Cakewalk have no real good answer for, and losing a days work or constantly having to restart program gets very tiresome especially as the CBL staff do not tell me that they are working on the issue frustrates me further. If I knew they were fixing I would be patient. But no word other than 'try in a new project' does not do it for me. I use a brand new state of the ART PC, UAD Thunderbolt interface etc. so I do not think it's an issue with computer. Am I the only one with issues? Watching this video sure temps me to switch. Any body have any advice???

I finally decide to choose Studio One 4 Artist instead Cakewalk because I have a Presonus audio box and the software is free for Presonus client. The thing really interesting for me it's the arranger track. It's very easy to change place of differents parts of the song if you need to try other arrangements. Lot of things are really simple like change the tempo in the song and all the things you describe in your video. I was a Nuendo user and this software change many things for me. It's really nice. I need to say one important thing : yes it's simple but you really need to take time to learn the different specific fonctions. Cheers from France !

I did use Cakewalk since vers 3, stepping through all changes to Sonar & Bandlab. I did have always lots of troubles with drop-outs, popos & clicks with Sonar and Cakewalk. I do admit that I never had 5 track-recordings, but always complex 12 tracks and more and for this I subscribed this behaviour to my faults. I always though it was either "my fault" due to wrong settings or too small hardware components. Now I know, after reading the comparison www.blades.technology/music/daws-sonar-and-studio-one/studio-one-vs-cakewalk-by-bandlab and seeing your video, that the daw was the reason. I consider to change to Studio 1 in the next time. As always, Mike, you helped me a lot.

@@CreativeSauce That's great to hear... That I was thinking of but not sure where to begin on vintage plugins since I have no point of reference. But I guess a great investment than I would say since most of it is used as opposed to not. Another key feature I would say at best, the handy Tool function for quantization and stretching transient tools. Remarkable..

save my comment: studio one will be the standard in a few years (less than a decade). its so amazing man!!! a lot of things that S1 has from the version 1, have been ''copied or even ported to other daws''. also i love how a whole comunity have swtiched without having all the marketing as the others have, and being that easy to make audio professionals love it. but one thing that i really feel presonus have to fix is the customer service, i've read a lot of comments of people saying that the brand is not really good helping with problems on their daw

if you're are on artist v4, you must update to v5 because you will have third party vst support natively... if your're on pro v4, the recent version will give a mastering page, show page, and a lot of other things that i don't know at this moment

My number one is the ability to record directly from Windows devices, not only ASIO . This allows me to record on one sound card and play back on another one. This is present in Audacity bu ton in Cubase or Ableton, major issue for me.

Studio one looks very enticing but being a 10 year user of FL Studio I can't see myself ever changing due to FL Studios FREE lifetime updates. FL just released version 20.7 and it gets better with every new version and at zero cost, that's hard to beat.

After upgrading from S1 Pro 4.5 to 4.6, I found that when I make changes to a song on the Song Page and then update the song mastering file, the changes are no longer reflected on the Project Page. For example, lower the volume of any track or master track in the song. Update the song mastering file and then play it back in the Project Page. For me, the problem is the same on an iMac (Mohave and Catalina) and a new PC machine with Windows 10 Pro. Have you observed this issue?

  • @RKDriver

It's often an incompatible plugin or that plugin or vst that needs to be reinstalled. Second might be a song or project recorded in 4.5 then the update to 4.6. They say you should complete the entire project or song in the original version (4.5) then update the software.

I use Cubase 10.5, but heard great things about Studio One and was considering their crossgrade; however, when I look at videos about Studio One I don't see any features that Cubase doesn't have that makes Me want to spend the $299.

The free S1 Prime edition doesn’t support 3rd party plug-ins. Although it does offer a small selection of plug-ins made by PreSonus, the Analog Delay, Compressor and Pro EQ plug-ins are missing. IMHO, it’s difficult to do serious work without those types of features.

Thank Mike. As someone that started learning about DAW's using Cakewalk (watching your videos), I am experiencing more and more glitches, audio dropouts with each subsequent update release from Bandlab. So if I were to change to Studio One, is there the ability to import cakewalk project files (.cwp) or am I going to be faced with having to import each audio/ instrument track separately to create a new project file in Studio One?

Unfortunately, Cakewalk is free but buggy and glitchy. And is not comfy to use as S1. And, as I know, S1 does not support CW format. So, exporting stems in WAV or something is the only way.

You can find Ozone Elements 9 at sweetwater.com (It's free for an unspecified period of time) and the Neutron 3 Element coupon code at loopcloud.com and get it from pluginboutique.com with the coupon code (it's free until May 3th). So if you can make a video explaining how to use them would be great. Also, you can inform your subscribers about the offers. Cheers Edit: spelling
