Why so much hate on Terminators and their value. Crazy people think these cars are barely worth 20k

Of all Mustangs ever made THIS is the one to still obtain and commands the most respect. Say the name Cobra and someone will either say “Supercharged?” or “Terminator?” People can say what they want; 03-04 Cobras will only continue to increase in value, especially if they’re in the condition of these two. People back then didn’t know what they had and people today will make the same mistake.

I bought my 03 cobra in 2020. listed for 18k bought it for 14.5k and i remember at the time being like ugh is this worth it? i knew they were doing for 20k or so so i decided to jump on it. fast forward to 2023 and i see the prices now and realize i would never be able to afford one for what they go for. while i love the car to death i really can’t picture spending much more than i did. it’s only pullied exhaust and tuned but i really still feel like i’m in my foxbody when i drive it. just glorified a bit. i see these guys spending 30k+ for really nice examples and am mind blown. but at the end of the day they have a lot going for them they’re gorgeous cars, they’re a factory forged engine, there’s such low build numbers per color and only being made for two years will always hold some good value. I also widely disagree when people compare them to coyote cars, yes performance is better but i see 100 of them a day and they’re a dime a dozen. rarity is a big factor for the terminators. every. single. time. i go for a ride or get gas someone holds me up to ask a few questions.

Exactly! There are So many older cars that demand a way higher premium. I mean some you can’t by without engines for less then 10k? What about the notchback fox body and the premium they bring in a nice example? That kind of example ( FoxBody ) being a thing makes me say for some reason it’s clear that some folk just don’t like the 03-04 cobra. In It’s on right it’s just as much a classic as anything else that’s considered a classic.

If you are only pullied then you don't understand the true potential of these cars. Then I can understand why you don't see it as being worth much more than 14500. Modern blower and fuel system you can do 800+ just like coyotes do just as reliably (if not even more so, these have better rods than coyotes). They can all make huge power with little effort. It comes down to styling and driving experience. Do you want the s550 style and soccer mom driving experience with a gay auto or do you want a terminator style with a raw notchy 6 speed manual and a deeper meaner sound more old school in every way aka a "muscle" car. It's more about that than choosing one or the other for performance reasons either can do 800-1000 wheel on stock bottom end.

@@Illest1887I think most of them just don't have a clue how badass a terminator is and what kind of power they can make with minimal effort even being 20 years old. They just see a 390 hp rating (which is total bs more like 430) and judge it by that and not what it's capable of with mods. Funny thing is the same guys argue for the 5.0 by talking about what it's capable of with mods. Just because it's older they don't like it. They're too panzy to drive a fast cobra anyways. Guys like that belong in modern autos only they can't handle anything else.

Drove both an '03-04 Terminator and a Mach I back in the day when they were new, and both are deserving of their status as high-value collector cars. The Mach I wasn't quite as quick as a Terminator, but it was no slouch and a heck of a lot of fun to drive with that bog old shaker hood scoop and aggressive exhaust note. I ended up liking it almost as much as the 03-04 Cobras. Alas, the financing fell through at the last minute, so I didn't get to own either one... but the haters of the 03-04 Terminators are kidding themselves if they think these legendary cars are going anyplace but up in value. If you want one and are prepared to pay 50K or less only, then you'd better get moving, because they're already pushing north of that figure.

F them if they don’t get it, either they don’t understand enough or they aren’t cool enough to get it, yet. I’ve been daily driving new edges the past decade and they got no attention and all the hate. I kept driving them and building them, now I see them starting to pop up on the street again. I don’t get a pre war car being worth $15 million but that’s how it works.

No it's because they say you can get new coyotes for similar price even though they're dime a dozen and tame compared to a cobra. I'm not talking about performance numbers I'm talking about actual driving experience. They're tame compared to terminators especially an auto one. It's not even in the same league as a terminator far as driving experience. They're dime a dozen and played out. They're on every street corner. Anyone who doesn't understand has no place near a terminator to begin with.

Comes down to this. A bone stock coyote (under $40k with a warranty) would wax a stock Termi. What makes the Termi cool is the blower/irs/t56, but it is at the end of the day an SN95 chassis and puts power down poorly. That being said it is one of my favorite sn95 cars made, but it isnt worth more than 25k unless it is one of the rare low production number colors or it just speaks to you. Especially since this one has been modded and is simply black, the value is lower. With all the stock components installed it could bring closer to what you ask easy, but its a tough sell bc for a few dollars more you get alot more mustang in a new one, just a crappy transmission lol. Gorgeous stable btw.

Nothing touched them for awhile in the performance realm either. It was like like Ford finally gave us the mustang that should've been. I’m one of the guys you’re talking to in this video, so here’s my take: Mustangs are considered great because of the performance value they offer. You get a lot of engine, and not much else, for a little bit of money. As the price creeps up on one of your 20 year old cars, the value proposition starts to fade. Do you know how much car you can get for $40,000? How about a brand new Mustang GT with a Coyote 5.0L V8 that can run circles around a stock Terminator. And if you’re not a dyed-in-the-wool Mustang enthusiast, these cars make even less sense. It’s a collector item, not a competitive daily driver like it was when it was new.

Compare that to a newer car. The new gt is an awesome car but even a base gt with no options you're paying over 40, drive it off the lot and it immediately depreciates. This is a collector car and should only increase in value. I know of 7 of them in my area and see 2k gt on a daily bases just driving around. I would say generally a car is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it. I think the people who will say your asking price is too much would say it was $34k or so new in 2003 and 2004. Even as you had stated, I say generally. They were made for 2 years, so in itself it’s not very common to see them. Even in my thread we talk about for the price of these cars is it worth to buy a 03/04 or buy a C6 Z06. Even some cobra owners in there agree they’d probably buy a Z06. The 03/04 cobras have a cult following, most of us know this. They were ahead of their time. I can agree you can get a newer GT, and such for about the same money with newer technology, and creature comforts. I’d say the same thing about the MK4 Supras. They’ve got 300 ish HP, but they’re fetching six figures for clean ones. It’s about nostalgia for most of us. The ones who saw this car come out when you were younger, and always wanted one. I’m with you in that sense. I’ve also got two 03 cobra coupes. One with 19k miles OW coupe, and a black coupe that I bought to drive and enjoy. I do also have a 2013 GT500, and a 2016 hellcat charger. They all do certain things well.

Having mine for 10 years now, I can't just sell it. My kids were little and riding around with me everywhere. But the Supras, grand nationals, rx7, etc all have a following and I remember buying my 1st 03 cobra. Took me 2 years but tried non stop and haven't looked back since.

I bought my second 2004 (I own two) Mach 1 last year for $25k with 66,500 miles on it. Very clean car. It has the “Cobra Crusher” 2.9L Whipple (conservative tune for 91, 14lbs of boost), BBK long tube, BBK X pipe, Borla ATAK catback, the engine (OG aluminum block) has been built with a stroker kit, balanced and blueprinted. It has the aluminum driveshaft, built rear end (diff/axle shafts etc have all been replaced with better components), 3.90 gears, it has an MGW shifter for the OG 3650 (that still survives even though the car was built for abuse and is an NMRA car). The original interior is present and in great shape. The previous owner did replace the original spoiler with a genuine 03 Cobra spoiler (painted Matte Black as a Mach 1 should be) and the front bumper cover is an original 99-01 Cobra piece. Considering the low mileage for such an old car, the collectibility of the 03-04 Mach 1’s (I have the FoMoCo certificate for both of my Mach 1’s) and the fact that over $25k was invested in the build of the car through the years I felt that paying $25k for the car was actually a steal. The previous owner is a retired USAF F35 engineer and was VERY meticulous when building this car. It dyno’d (on a DynoJet at Premier Performance in SLC) at 717rwhp/663tq on 91. I say all that to chime in and say that I don’t necessarily think $37k for such a clean low mileage Terminator is all that bad. Price is something that is all in the eye of the beholder. While someone will say $37k is way too much because of X, Y and Z…..there will still be someone who feels the price is fine. Sure, can you buy an S550 GT on the used market for $37k? Sure. Will that S550 GT be a Terminator? No. It will not. Likewise, some folks would feel that $25k for my Mach 1 was too much, that’s fine, as I said I feel it was priced well and was glad to pay cash for it. My other Mach 1 is a case of “I got to save it” type of project car. It is also a 2004 but it has 130k on the odometer and is all stock. The previous owner just drove it, not much maintenance to speak of. I got it for $12,500 from a local big Jeep dealership.

I see your side of course to a degree. I have a 96 Mystic Cobra with 19k miles and a '04 Mystichrome Cobra with 76k miles. Paid $13k for the '96 4 years ago and $18k for the '04 3 years ago. Sorry to say but I could never see myself paying for what people are asking for the 03/04 cobras. Rollers alone over $10k-$12k?!?!?! 100k miles 03/04 cobras going for $20K+?!?! When Ford dealerships are offering 700+ horsepower NEW mustangs for $40k-$50k with warranty. Then those used 700+ horsepower ones from the pervious years selling for $20k-$30k with sub 50k miles. During the pandemic prices on all used cars went up. For some reason a handful of cars went up more dramatically then others just because certain owners were forced to sell by their wives because possible finical situations. So the guys post it up for sell with the " wife is making me sell it but i don't know why it won't sell honey " price. Asking $10k-$15k over which then other cobra owners saw and said " well dam is that how much I can sell mine for " and started a chain reaction.

i hear you but i never buy a car for a warranty and i think most people mod their cars and like me void them right away. A new GT base is 40k and right now will depreciate as soon as you leave the lot. Its understandable most people dont have 40k laying around for a car so financing is an option for the new stuff. Just like the supra MK4 , thosre are fetching big money because of the following they have and these cars have the same imo. Not to any die hard GT guys if that makes sense.

In 2004, I left the dealership with a brand new black Cobra, just like the one featured in your video. I had a ton of fun with that car. I was 23 and had a blast. That being said, the best part of it at that time was performance per dollar value. I was beating on much more expensive cars all the time. I bought it for just over $34k. But build quality issues began to surface, and they were seriously annoying me. That is the only reason why I dont consider these cars serious collector cars now. They were unrefined, and Ford still hadn't figured out how to build a proper IRS. Anyhow, I traded the car in after 2 years of ownership and about 30k miles as I got tired of breaking stuff and getting tickets. $37k for this- overpriced IMO. Not hating. Maybe closer to $30? Others may want to purchase as is and as dumb as it sounds I’d probably pay more to put a Whipple, KB or turbos on the car along with everything else, that I would actually getting when purchasing your red modified cobra. Oh I get it, I'm glad these are holding their value well but wish they were cheaper I'd love to buy another to keep it. I thi k the gt's will continue to get more collectible as time goes on like the fix has. Appreciate the feed back too brother

Love these cars to death, I’ve owned 2 over the last 13 years but once they went over 30k I realized I can grab a condor gt500 once you get in that price range, once folks start selling them for 45k and up your in trinity gt500 price territory, overall build quality minus the internals are much better in the later years on the condor and the trinity

IMO the only guys you're going to impress with this car are guys with the same body style 2k-5k$ mustangs. Nobody is going to break their neck for a car that high schoolers with 6bangers drive essentially. When the average person looks at the car that's what they'll think.

99% of mustang owners that shit on prices for 03/04's are ppl that don't own one. Simple as that. Its mostly 2v and 99/01 cobra guys i've noticed. Mach owners are pretty chill about it.

Stock sub 10k mile car is worth the number you are asking. 20k is not realistic either but I think a lower mileage, lightly modded car like this is probably closer to 30-32k. The car not having dark charcoal inserts is a detractror to some as well.

37k for 29k miles? That’s a fair price I remember 2 years ago looking at these for 30k with I believe 90k+ miles. I would say this car is the reason we have supercharged v8s with big power like the scat hellcat etc this car made a staple in high hp factory cars. Always wanted a black cobra so clean. Would choose this car over a hellcat any day super rare and historic.
