@@marro15 but Nick All Star Brawl is just a blatant smash clone, at least Multiversus tried to be a little bit different

fun fact: Just because smash created a genre, doesn't mean that every game following that genre is a clone of it example: Multiversus is a game looking for an identity of its own. It is VERY different from smash, with many different features (Like good online, good monetization, more updates, free, character cooldowns that slow down spamming, projectile play being more fun on both ends, and more) Instances where this is unproven: Nick all star brawl was MEANT to be a clone of smash. the creators themselves stated that they wanted to give the same playstyle and feel as Smash bros melee.

Here’s my response: Who the hell cares? As long as you’re having fun with the game, whether it be NASB or Multiversus or even both, that’s all that should matter. It doesn’t have to be a Smash killer, nor should it. It should just be a game you play, have fun with and enjoy. And in the end, isn’t that what video games are all about? …Of course, this is coming from someone who abandoned Smash Bros due to its toxic community and would rather play NASB, sooooo…What do I know?

@@dragoonfirestorm1171 Oh yeah, i know Wolfenstein came before, but Doom was the big kid on the block at the time that everyone considered FPS games a doom clone. Why smash clones always fail? Thats and easy question to answer. They prioritize 1 aspect of the game too much over the main point of any game: to be fun. Either they are much too competitive and aren't fun enough to play casually or try way to hard to be different from smash to the point where it's just a mess of a game to enjoy. Smash is that perfect balance of a fun casual game that CAN be competitive but the devs will never sacrifice the casual fun of the game for the competitive balance of the game, which is why smash will always just be on top of it's genre, even surpassing other fighting games it's not directly competing with

I'm enjoying Multiversus and obviously Smash is great being the gateway into the genre played for a decade before others and always the most polished... but I feel like I missed the memo on PSASBR being bad. Everyone always says it these days, but I played it online from several times a week to daily for like solidly half a year after it's release which is more than Smash or Multiversus (so far at least) for me. I did mostly 2v2 with my brother in that time, so Multiversus' 2v2 dosen't feel super novel. I always feel like it's reputation for being bad mechanically is a bit of revised history as I never recall hearing much about that in it's heyday.

It's a shame the Smash online experience is absolute trash-tier. Trust me when I say that that's the main reason people give the alternatives a try. When even games like Brawlhalla have a 20x better online experience than the main game in the genre, it's just awkwardly painful. Love Smash, never play it due to not being able to play online. I'll take the occasional warping bro or ''wtf that didn't hit?!" over input lag, sutters and potentially slideshows. Especially here in Europe where the community is a lot smaller. So far, Smash is king in terms of raw gameplay and content for me. But the actual playing experience as an adult who can't afford to travel for miles and miles for local meetups due to time constraints... currently playing Multiversus. It's raw but it's take on 2s and character cooldowns is pretty nice. The online isn't as good as some modern fighters (GG:Strive) or even Brawlhalla, but I've got a feeling that'll end up improving quite a bit.

Honestly PlayStation Allstars had an okay cast and it was interesting for what it tried to do instead of being a blatant copy of smash. It’s roster wasn’t the greatest but if they made a sequel with money behind it and their IPs now they could rival Smash, every character returns from the last game, add Spyro and Crash, then you get Bloodbourne Hunter, Jin Sakai from Ghost of Tsushima, Spider-Man, Miles Morales, Doc Ock, Venom, Wolverine, Aloy from Horizon Zero Dawn, if they got Capcom they could add Resident Evil Characters. Sony could really rival smash if they wanted to but they won’t and it makes me sad.

There's also that one from Epic Games that was 3D and you could move in 360 directions instead of the usual left & right, and I *really* get the feeling that the reason there are so many Smash Clones now is purely because the final DLC was added to Smash so then the other companies could make their own fighting games. The whole "free-to-play" thing and the "we'll sponsor u to play the beta version of our game" thing that Multiversus and the Epic Games one did is getting a bit stale now, but that's probably me being annoyed.

Some of the backlash may be in part because of the fact that NASB and Multiversus contain characters from television and film. My theory is that, due to the bad perception of video games tied to tv and movies, people automatically associate these 'smash clones' as being low quality. I think another reason why platform fighters don't see as much success as smash is because they tend to focus purely on the competitive angle above anything else when I think what made Smash stand out so much in the beginning was how it was built up as a party game. Looking back at the original Smash 64, you not only had 4 player multiplayer with a diverse range of stages and options, but you also had a nice arcade style single player mode, board the platforms and break the targets. The latter of which not only made good use of the games' platformer control scheme but also served as nice fun ways to learn the characters more. In most other games, every stage is either some form of final destination or battlefield and items are either completely non-existent or very scarce which is nice but not very good when you just want to goof around with friends or something. They have good foundations but the layers they build around them only appeal to a very specific and already niche audience.

To some extent, "Smash Clone" is what you call a bad game that is similar to Smash; if the similar game is good, it's called a "Platform Fighter" instead.
@Wrench-007 Жыл бұрын
I'll say this because no one will, the only reason why people end up not liking these games is because they're considered to be "Smash clones". Literally everyone knows damn well if the game ends up being exactly like Smash, they will complain that it's a whole ass copy, and if it's different from Smash, they will complain that they "tried" to be like Smash and failed, making the game bad. I still remember playing PlayStation All-Stars all the time for years without getting bored, and at that time I didn't have another Nintendo console other than my 3DS, so I never really played Smash. I just loved the fact that people only would always do a different combo or a different kill confirm making every match different all the time, while in Ultimate we got Mario doing 3 up airs into a f-air for a kill, ZSS doing up airs and up b, Falcon with more up airs, etc. Just feels like Smash is being carried because it was that game that came first and people are more familiar with it, meaning any new game that's different = bad. I guess people just can't handle a change. At least in PSASBR everyone was viable while it took Smash like 5 games and 80+ characters so people don't fight the same 3 all the time

Two things. 1. Multiversus already has over 10 million downloads so how is that a failure? 2. They're called platform fighters, not "Smash clones". Calling them that is just disrespectful to the games and the genre. Honestly this video just feel like a Smash fanboy who hates it when someone else decides to have fun with the genre. As if it's in any way a threat to you or Smash. I honestly hate this "There can only be one!" Mentality Smash fanboys have. As if all platform fighters can't coexist. What this mindset does is just discourage other platform fighters from being made and therefor weakens the genre. It also just create toxic fan wars and undeserved hate towards the communities and developers for those games.

Regarding Playstation All-Stars, I disagree on calling Sir Daniel Fortesque, a beloved cult-classic character, a "questionable" pick. MediEvil is one of my favorite series ever that I grew up with and I was happy to see Sony acknowledging lesser-known characters from their legacy. Just because "you" don't recognize Sir Daniel, doesn't mean it's fair to assume others didn't either. That's like saying Pit from Kid Icarus is "questionable" just because he was an obscure character with (at the time) only 2 games and a 20(!)-year absence before Brawl. Sure, back then some people went "WHO?" to characters like Ness, Captain Falcon, Marth (even freaking SAMUS according to Sakurai) when they were first revealed, but that didn't stop them from being in the game. Fast forward to today and millions of people LOVE these characters, both in and out of Smash. Sakurai would also state that it's "more important that the character is fun to play, not just recognizable," meaning that anyone is welcome, regardless if they're big or small, so to say Sir Daniel or Fat Princess or whoever's inclusion was "questionable" just because it's "not a big character" or not recognizable to you and you alone isn't fair, because the beauty of crossover games is that there's something for everyone, be it big characters like Mario and Kratos, or niche ones like Ness and Sir Daniel.

Smash is that perfect balance of a fun casual game that CAN be competitive but the devs will never sacrifice the casual fun of the game for the competitive balance of the game, which is why smash will always just be on top of it's genre, even surpassing other fighting games it's not directly competing with
Technically wasn't the first of it's kind. That credit goes to the outfoxies a 1995 arcade game which is considered "THE" first platform fighter. & don't forget that there's 2d platform fighters & 3d platform fighters.
I don't like calling platform fighters "Smash Clones" cause it makes it seem like it has expectations to live up to
I'm enjoying Multiversus and obviously Smash is great being the gateway into the genre played for a decade before others and always the most polished... but I feel like I missed the memo on PSASBR being bad.

Pov multiversus is not that good today
Kind of funny to see mulitversus die now
Just because a Platform fighter doesn’t become as big as Smash Bros doesn’t mean it “failed”.

People dont realize that PS All Stars had the team with genuine passion for PlayStation's history. Sony were the ones who screwed over the game. Every character feels like they were taken straight from their games. Even having some characters having passive abilities like Cole and Ratchet and Clank being able to hover, Nathan and Radec being able to take cover, Kat's double jump was her gravity shifting, Dante (despite being the reboot one) was able to style change mid-combo, Sackboy changing into costumes found in LBP. There was clearly care put into the game
How can people call PlayStation all stars a smash clone then sit there an complain about it not having ring out/health bars🤦🏽♂️ all stars was literally so underrated it was just released at a time when people weren’t ready for a new brawler and only cared about smash. A lot of people immediately dismissed the game because of that fact alone. Sony was obviously trying to do something different by using the leveling system they wanted too give it it’s own identity. I truly believe if all stars was given a second chance it would change everything. I encourage anyone to go back and give a try again because it really was underrated.

As a big smash fan, it’s amazing to see a new fighting game that kind of resembles smash with its platformer style and needing to knock your opponent to a blast zone but different enough so that it’s considered it’s own thing and not a smash clone, exist. It felt like whenever any fighting platformer tried to get the same success that smash got, it was shut down because it was either bad, or got compared to what people saw as perfection, so seeing something finally break through and become its own fighting game is just heart warming.

Multiversus is goated and im not looking to debate it.
Lmfao bro the way you edited in that cheek smacking extremely wet sounding fart as you put that super smash character on screen lol the timing was good as he finished spinning in came that fart lmao
Rivals of Aether doesn't get the same kind of hate because it has a cast of original characters that started off in a video game.

The trash talking in that form bug is funny lol
They have good foundations but the layers they build around them only appeal to a very specific and already niche audience.

multiversus is actally very fun and i find myself being addicted to it and playing for hours
To some extent, "Smash Clone" is what you call a bad game that is similar to Smash; if the similar game is good, it's called a "Platform Fighter" instead.
At least in PSASBR everyone was viable while it took Smash like 5 games and 80+ characters so people don't fight the same 3 all the time
I’m a day 1 smash competitor, and I have to admit that Multiverses is shockingly surprising. The fact that Warner Bros has it’s hand in the pot literally? The crossovers are limitless. I love this this game, can’t wait for the Mortal Kombat implementation

Just because smash was the first huge platform fighter doesn’t mean these games are clones. The only thing smash and multiversus got in common is that they platform fighters but that’s it the way characters play is way different. That’s like saying every shooter is the same.
Two things.

PlayStation all-stars actually had a good combos system that players could use. it's very odd how so many people that play games say that they want invention when they really are asking for it the same thing just slightly better.
