Thank you. I’m curious about how my avoidant attachment explains my toxic behavior towards my ex who loved me, whose love I simply couldn’t receive or reciprocate. It was an awful time and I’m not proud of how I hurt her.

Hi Sia, thank you for another video. I was wondering what your thoughts are on those who dispute the validity and explanatory power of attachment theory, such as the paper by Marinus H. Van IJzendoorn a,b and Marian J. Bakermans-Kranenburg (2021); Replication crisis lost in translation? On translational caution and premature applications of attachment theory. If the effect sizes they state are correct, it suggests practitioners might be putting their focus on one small piece of the puzzle. Attachment styles now seem to be thrown around analagous to a psychiatric diagnosis, and am wondering if you think we are just trying to explain a cluster of symptoms with a different label? Do you have the concern that the focus on attachment in psychology may have the same effect that diagnosis has had on psychiatry, with some people finding the insight useful to understand their concerns and help them to move forward, whilst others will perceive they are broken/helpless and stay stuck. I find it challenging that attachment proponents never try to disprove their theory, unlike physical scientists. If a instance arises where someone has had a great family environment, but ends up having a substance use disorder they will still find a way to blame the individuals parents rather than having to try and address numerous other predisposing influences in someones life. I am wondering if you can explain how attachment theory is not just another proxy for schizophrenegenic mothers?

Hey doc, might you know about any relationship with attachment styles and cluster B personality disorders? Like do you see a particular insecure attachment style have a high correlation with a particular personality disorder?
