the " no dinner ,dinner party" was very strange and the characters acknowledge it I dont think the lack of food presented in the show tells us that there is scarcity rather it tells us how mistreated the "Innies" are, getting low end food ,only getting good food when accomplishing extraordinary
The character of Devon doesn’t seem to have any problem with finding food

He was the one who attacked like a predator. he must have been eating lots of people regularly.
I can appreciate this theory. Although I believe the food rationing has more to do with conditioning people than cannibalism. No one ever complains about being hungry
I agree that there must be a food scarcity, but if you can grow humans out of thin air you can probably also grow goats no point for cannibalism

Their job is to kill people no daily basis for the sake of more foods. The larger the amount of people they kill, the more stressed and emotional the task would be.
I started the vid thinking "Bullshit, but what the hell. Let's hear the crazy theory for laughs." However, now I am feeling temporarily schizophrenic because I think you may have convinced me.

Please try to enjoy all theories equally. And remember, Lumon Recycles! (Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for the kind comment!)

@@FarTooMuchToSay I've watched a few of your other videos, and am now even more uncertain of my sanity. Thankfully, I'm poly-agnostic and should recover. You are a deft agent of Operation Mindfuck. I rate this visit to the Chapel Perilous 5 out of 5 stars. Hope the Discordians give you a promotion or a hotdog without a bun.
The one thing that complicates things is Irving having a dog, in a food scarcity where eating humans is being explored/happening, dogs would be non-entity, not necessarily because we would eat them, but because feeding them would become problematic. Otherwise, fascinating conjecture, if it's correct we will all be floored at your prescience. Unfortunately, I think it probably falls into the theorycrafting areas that posited that Varys was a merman.
Great theory! The "revolving" has some clues that it may mean transfer of consciousness to the new CEO. Like the voice of "the Board" that we finally hear is just one guy, who sounds like Keir, so where's the rest of the board? Perhaps in his brain, kinda like the movie "Being Jon Malkovitch", and Helena would be next in line for that "revolving", but it could totally involve cannibalism too. I for sure noticed the weird absence or scarcity of food.. Also, Ms. Cobelle's two totally different personalities, could be herself and her mother in one body, explaining her shrine and devotion to Lumen, but also her desire to test the severance boundaries, and investigate reintegration.

Currently working on a video about Cobel’s mother and hasn’t thought that she could be two personalities - I’ll have to mention it!
A lot of heavy and stocky people in this world for that theory to be true.

very good point.
The no dinner dinner party is because Mark's sister is marrying a total nut-bag named Ricken. How do you miss his character is weird? Even his friends at the party are weird. He wrote that weird book. (Mark does eat immediately after the party ends because his sister makes him a sandwich) There's no other real clue that there's a food shortage. We never see it mentioned in the outie world. A food shortage wouldn't be something you could hide from the public. A abandoned greenhouse could just be an abandoned greenhouse. The snacks are real food but packaged by the company because the company doesn't want any outside influences inside with the innies. And that painting if it's a painting of a real incident is because the innies being cut off from the real world are emotionally stunted. Look at Dylan's hostility to those outside of his group. So eventually you get enough hostility with enough people and violence will break out. This is probably why the departments, Macrodata Refinement and Optics & Design, are so small. To prevent widespread violence. We also know there are two versions of the painting. One version Macrodata is winning the fight and the other version Optics is winning the fight. So for all we know the painting is just another lie and form of control by the company. Lumon is also basically a giant cult. So yes they are going to say weird shit. Especially the leaders of the cult like Helena's father. I'm not seeing the cannibalism angle.
The concept of cannibalism for severance never occurred to me, but regarding your theory of "lack of food supply & the doubles not eating any food" would it be possible that the company going the severance in order to also save on food shortage as the doubles doesnt seem to be needing to eat for 8hr of work - thats at least 1 skipped lunch per person = helping the food shortage as people eat 1 less meal Hope this makes sense

That makes a lot of sense and I wish I’d heard it before I made the video, because I 100% would have mentioned it!
severance IS the best series ever
If you hussel the letters in Kier Eagan's name, you get 'Ik nera ega' Ik in Dutch = I Nera in French = will not Ega in Latin = eat

Wow.
Severance is amazing. It's quirky, dramatic, thrilling, funny, touching, sad, and terrifying.
Play this at 1.25x
I admit it dude, I thought your notion was ridiculous at first. but after watching the video I think it could make sense. Saying could because this is still mostly circumstantial speculations, and there's a big chance that the writers don't follow this path, even if this can be a reasonable story. Good video
Spoiler Alert, just in case, I guess? . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Well, I really *have* been thinking, some elements do point to severance being--partly, maybe?--an experiment in mitigating food shortage. I started thinking this when Helly commented on the egg bar actually being good. It -*-would-*- be, I guess, since that Helly hasn't ever had an egg before. Put this together with the two tokens per day for workers to get those tiny snacks from the machine-- and the food-free dinner party, with mention of someone's friend 'not having had a food -based meal since...' (scene ends there). Probably wouldn't be hard to fool the outies into thinking the innies are served breakfast upon arrival at work, either; just saying. Anyway, glad you're touching on this; I'll watch now. :D
Hey kids, what's for dinner? 😏🤔

The help. That’s what they’re here for…
When Petey wanders into the gas station, the shelves are fully stocked with snacks and his comments about needing tokens come across as lunatic ramblings to the clerk because there is no rationing in the outside world. Devon has plenty of fresh food to make Mark a sandwich after the no-dinner dinner party. Dylan, Ricken, and even Kobel don't miss too many meals, and Milchick couldn't be that ripped without a ton of protein. Kobel/Selvig doesn't have any problem finding food to make Mark cookies (or whatever it was she baked for him), and when she opened her refrigerator to get milk, it appeared to be normally stocked. There might or might not be cannibalism in the Severance world, but if you want to base that theory on an underlying food shortage, you have to seriously cherry-pick your facts and grossly overlook a lot of others.

Really well done! Thank you for putting it all together.
Interesting...
I think it is about cloning but cannibalism sounds plausible and much more interesting
Is it a coincidence that cannibalism looks like the sister word to capitalism? 👀

True, but still an entertaining and thought-provoking piece. It temporarily satiates my hunger for more Severance!
Observer bias: if you start with a theory, you WILL find things supporting your argument, or make things FIT the argument. I don't think cannibalism is involved. At the very least, you can't use the paintings as proof. The show sets the Founders as Gods and uses religious-type iconography from the start. That a representation of Evil from a religious perspective where God, therefore lower creatures, Sinners, exist, could very well depict and the wrath of God on Heretics (always the "opposite" camp") as butchery is likely as just part of a running theme. The idea remains to keep people on track and apart. Also, not everyone is thin, and Irving has a dog, food is not THAT scarce or else people outside would run amok. And why would women have children? as food? It takes food to maintain a pregnancy, no gain. And we are only shown ONE deserted greenhouse, Still your theory is as valid as any, just as is my explanation. It's very hard to stay clear of bias.
No.
This theory is bad and you should feel bad.
