I wouldn't go that far, The Jacksons were iconic but most of that was 2 separate solo careers. As for a family sticking together and putting out entertaining content together for decades, i'd give it to the Wayans. It sucks that it turned out the way it did with the scary movie franchise, but if you really think about it, that many sequels get pretty tired anyway, this forced them to branch out, possibly improving their overall success.

However the latter family were the first black family to release mainstream variety shows, cartoons, defeat The Beatles in their prime, go number one 4 times in a row, generate multiple historic and iconic solo-careers + second generation ones (3T), so in terms of content creation, the Jacksons are untouchable.

I always saw A Haunted House as them doing a make good and making up for lost time after having lost the Scary Movie franchise. The first A Haunted House is something I still look back on fondly, but the second one made me feel embarrassed when I picked it as a movie night option.

What ever a one can say these guys are by far one most creative and really funny,I still watch their old work or new it don't matter so long its them.They are genius when its comes to comedy. An honorable mentioned I really enjoyed after the fuss over Fifty Shades of Grey was the spoof. Marlon too i enjoy it.

I am reminded of the golden rule, "He who has the gold, makes the rules". It also is worth mentioning that nothing was "stolen". Without going to deep into research I am confident this was a rights swap for production purposes. Hollywood deals take many structures, and the creatives have options as to how those structures form. You can either get a tiny cut of the gross and retain your rights(and maybe not even get a bite) or you can sign over the rights for a larger cut. Studios obviously prefer the latter. There are plenty of deals where the writer got to keep the rights and the studios wanted more but couldn't have it. Last Starfighter comes to mind. You got more money than you otherwise would have, in exchange for the rights being given to the studio, far from theft.

Marlon Wayans might be the most underrated comedic actor of all time. He's single handedly keeping the slapstick genre alive. A Haunted House is one of the funniest movies ever made. Also Don't be a Menace might be the most quotable movie known to western culture.

I still don’t understand how The Wayans don’t have their own studio at this point. Tyler Perry was able to make one. With so many years in the game, why aren’t they independent of other Hollywood studios? They’re so talented that you can see so much content coming from that family. TV, Film, Marketing etc.

Unbelievable! I always thought they were stupid for selling off that movie! I was sooo wrong 😑 I love Scary Movie and the first two, especially no. 2 is one of my favourites. Such a talented family. Fantastically hilarious. Thanks for this informative video, I think a lot of us did not understand the underhanded Hollywood shenanigans that went on.

This video really didn’t need to be 8 minutes. It starts with a general recap of the wayan brothers, then gets to them losing their rights, but then loops BACK AROUND to start recapping their previous movies. Y’all could’ve cut out 3 minutes from this

The Wayans family is incredible, the whole family is so talented. While being hilarious, Marlon in particular, has some nice acting chops. I loved him in Requime for a dream.

That really took the wind out of their sails, I never even heard of those last several movies...

This family is brilliant and we all know that when something is done above expectation, it is watched closely.

The first 2 Scary Movies are legendary, The first one's ending was clever as hell, especially because it was a parody

That's one of the things about a studio insisting that *their title* be used. It means that the studio owns it and legally can do what they want with it. I look at the "Haunted house" movies as the *real* SM 3 & 4. Like how "Tales from the Darkside" is the real Creepshow 3.

Scary Movie 2 is still my favorite. I was okay with the others until I saw 5 which didnt even get a smile out of me. I didnt even know this happened but I always wondered where the brothers went after 2 and now im sad to know.

What happened to the Weinstein's is what i like to call sweet karma.

I remember Don't Be A Menace, such a funny movie. I think I played that VHS until the tape broke.

I was to young to really know who directed, or wrote movies when Scary Movie 1&2 came out, but damn could I tell something was missing with Scary Movie 3, and especially 4. When I got older, and learned that the same people that were responsible for another of my childhood favorite comedies, Major Payne had been fucked over, I got pissed, and never watched another Movie movie again.

The other scary movies aren’t funny! Smh how can you fire somebody from their own movie!!😒🙄

The first two are by far the best, no doubt about it. But, 3 was actually pretty good too. 4 was the real decline and 5 I couldn't even finish.

I remember watching scary movie at a drive in when I was a kid. So many people outside laughing and having fun. Good memories.

The last great part of the Scary Movie franchise was Shaq and Doctor Phil locked in the bathroom from Saw. That shit was epic.

I used to watch In Living Color when I was a kid. It was one of the best comedy shows. I was so mad when it got pulled. Fire Marshall Bill and Homey The Clown were gold

All I needed to hear was "Weinstein" and I knew shenanigans were afoot!

I didn’t even watch after the Wayans left and I’m honestly just finding out there was a part 4 and 5 through this video.

Sorry, but the Wayans took a lot of cues from the Zanuck Brothers who made the original Airplane, Kentucky Fried Movie, Top Secret, Naked Gun movies, Police Squad, Leslie Neilson films, and were the original makers of the modern parody movie franchises. Wayans did have a few good laughs here and there but they don't compare to the geniuses that started it all. Even Keenan said in an interview that he adapted a lot of his ideas from the Zanuck Brothers, John Landis (Animal House, Blues Brothers,) and Mike Meyers from Austin Powers. Even the title of Scary Movie was taken from Wes Craven (who had the title Scary Movie and changed it to SCREAM) long before Wayans ever got to it.

This is literally an inspirational family, like instead lots of celebs being famous and ignoring family, THEY ALL ate
