Why Samsung's Projector Phone FAILED..... + Teardown
The Samsung Galaxy Beam was ahead of it's time. This phone came out in 2012 and blew away anyone who used it. It seemed like such a good concept at the time - a projector built into a phone, however it turned out to be a pretty big fail. In this video we take a look at the insides of the beam as well as why it flopped and a potential solution to bring back the projector phones without compromising on computing power.

There actually exists an updated version of this phone - Samsung Galaxy Beam 2. It was released on 2014 and based on a Galaxy S4 design. It might be worth to take a look at it in a future video

There is (was) a smartphone called Quantum V, from around 2019. I don't know much about it, but I think it was a white label sold in Brazil. The protector-thing was much better than galaxy beam gen 1.

It's funny coz everyone said this feature was not necessary, making fun of it . Now everyone see it as an underrated thing.
This is the sad part about the smartphone market: They’ve stopped innovating. We used to get phones with projectors, actual telescoping cameras, and so much more. But there are very few phones specifically designed around that kind of purpose today. It’s sad

This projector gets the job done pretty well. kzread.infoUgkxS9P8zTOcmQg-hH0QeUi3dspOLyYgQ6dH Bear in mind it's a mini projector but all things considered the picture quality is pretty good. The attached photo is of the projector projecting onto my white closet doors. I still have not messed with the settings but I can't wait for our first family movie night on a larger scale. If you have issues with volume not working with your firestick, go into volume settings and you will find your solution there.
I’ve always wanted a projector and until my tv broke I only used it to stream stuff off my phone. Having that feature built into a modern phone would be awesome

To be honest features like these should be implemented in more phones, even if it’s weird looking, it can be useful like for a bigger display

they could make it more hidden now and not so bulky.
The projector case is actually genius, you still able to make the most out of your phone while still have an option for the projector, I wonder what other case they could make
I used to have this phone back when it was released. So much so that I enjoyed it. The only caveat here is that, the video player on this phone doesn’t allow you to project 1080p movies during that time. I hope another version of this phone will be released again.
the fact that this idea is so innovative and that just doesn't have enough demand is saddening
I just don't think phone projectors make much sense over conventional mini/pocket projectors. especially with the needed comprimises. - Small projectors use DLP technology rather than the more bulky and cheaper LCD, this alone will certainly account for majority of the phone's price. - Even small projectors have fans in them, I assume this is because the lamp inside generates a lot of heat, this will sacrifice waterproofing. Brightness is one of the largest factors when shopping for projectors, you want something that isn't dim and will allow for good contrast and screen size. Better cooling = brighter light source. Even the pocket projectors today suffer from poor brightness in ideal conditions. - Yes, its built in, or stuck to the back of your phone. But what if you want to upgrade? Why not just have something that can connect to every device (now and in the future), having a hdmi port built into a phone will be chunky, or requiring an adapter that you have to carry around. All this chunkiness adds to less room for features or improvements, even for modular phones. - Projectors are just not as good as traditional displays (at this price and type). You need a good surface, good lighting, and good positioning (maybe a tripod). The image can only be as dark as the surface... vice versa. How often are you in a situation that would make you use your phone projector rather than a common TV or monitor with the ability to provide much better viewing experiences, let alone having a good surface to project on. Projectors that do well in even normal lighting conditions cost more than your typical phone, even then they are using special projector screens that brighten the image. I draw it parellel to new cars with graphics cards in them, playing demanding games on them is cool, but it won't be used as often as a traditional gaming setup and wont be as good as one either.
love the content day 12: what do you think iphones will look like in 20 years
Niche phones with a specialty feature are an incredibly tough sell. After all, most people would prefer to buy regular phones, and as you've shown, the end product would need some compromises due to the extra room needed for the components. Makes more sense to buy a separate, portable projector. And these days there are models that support wireless projections from phones.
I really appreciate you making these full length videos. Keep up the great content (also i really want you to collab with Mrwhosetheboss)
Enjoyed that video as it popped up on my feed but could you maybe try hooking up that projector with a phone from nowadays?
Because Samsung built a projector inside the Beam, they had to compromise on the specs, so, on release, it was already outdated. Consider that, during that time, phones were smaller in size than they are now. Much smaller.
Motorola Droid a good job with the Z series. I still have mine with 4 mods and they still work. Used the projector couple months ago when power was out. Good video, keep them coming.....

Great video 👍. I’d personally consider a phone projector case for my iPhone, but knowing it apple it would cost $7000
I would like (and buy) a projector case but only if it had an additional built-in battery.
The beam was…. Interesting… it’s biggest flaw was that it was a rebadge of a one to two year old phone Samsung had already released… To put it in a modern perspective, imagine of Samsung took an A series from 2020 stuck s projector on it and sold it as a “new” phone. The bean was behind on everything from specs to the software at the time when android was really starting to take off and every update was quantum leap over the last one.

Have an A series from 2020, and it works perfectly fine. -The A01 and A11 from '20 might have issues, though.- EDIT: The source I used when posting had apparently swapped the specs of these two with an older device. Also, KZread app, why are you not wrapping formatted text?

If Samsung made a Projector add-on for, lets say, the S22 Plus/Ultra, and It had a way to let external devices send video to it (over the USB-C Piggy-back type connector, or a mini/micro HDMI port), I would buy it!

Having a projector in a phone is a really epic idea because its compact and easy to move and it would be super useful for watching youtube or anything else.
I really enjoyed that video ! Thanks man !
Best repair channel i love it🥰
this this is so rad. I kinda want it
I wonder if you could make a projector case it would be really cool if you could do that.
They actually made a second version that was similar to a s4 if I remember correctly. Fixed the phone side but it was the same projector.
If the projector case also has a powerbank included, so that when I project my battery wont drain. I would defiantly consider buying one.
I loved these as it eliminated the need for big bulky items like tv sets and cables everywhere plus with these phones you could stream a movie on a wall how sweet is that‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️
The Motorola you mentioned also had a big speaker attachment instead of the projector. I think it had a third attachment but i cannot remember what it was

wow! never heard of this. is something similar being worked on currently to your knowledge?

What was the first phone you received to fix?
The Moto mods for the Moto Z series were great. They weren't really "cases" but an add-on of sorts using magnetic pins on the back of the phone. Kinda like if Magsafe had physical pins to communicate with your phone for power/data.
I've been looking forward for this vid since Shorts video was released
I think this would compete directly with the tv and monitors market. I have a a TV but dont use it as much as i would use a phone projector.
You can pry off the volume and power button from the phone's frame to lift up the board, it comes off relatively easy
Love your content
Is there no usb projector add-on for charging port plugin?
Awesome video Bhaijaan ☺️😎😎🔥
the buttons might be soldered to the phone, but they just have some weak-ish adhesive under them, which you can remove, so the buttons aren't stuck to the housing anymore.
In the case of Moto it was not just a case but a "moto mod" like you said, a module. I used to have the Moto Z that supported this and other modules such as a Jbl speaker and a Hasselblad camera with 10x optical zoom which was total perfection
Phone pair guru, do you have any idea how to recover permanently deleted notes? I permanently deleted my notes and really need them.
I like watching your videos you have a soothing voice and really nice hands. 😳
I'd love a phone with a projector, as long as I can use the USB C connector as a video in port. That way, I'd be able to use my phone as a mobile projector that plugs into anything that has DP or HDMI
It looks like those volume and power control buttons are not soldered but stick with glue or adhesive, it just looks like the s3 which was the same.
i really miss this phone despite its flaws this was my fave
You reminded me of cool tech no more implemented in phones like fm transmitter and xenon flash.
I love your videos🔥🔥
I have a question, So will the AirPod 2nd Gens retire when the pro 2s come out? Plz respond Thank you?
If they did release a Beam 3, it would be pretty cool. Especially if you could use it in DeX mode.
Can I ask something. My phone has this blackspot that somehow expand and and contrack I want to go to a repair shop but I gotta know what kind of problem is it first
So sad to see them go it was a good concept that if you were watching something to start a project in your phone would be seamless and get a big screen
Can you attach that samsung projector to newer phones? Your gold iPhone for example
Back then I was thinking about forming a training company. I truly had this phone in my sight, as a back up in case a projector failed on a session.
I waited for this video becuse I love tearingdown stuff. And also wanna see how the projector looks from inside
Unihertz's Tank 2 should fill the niche cince it has one and has biggest battery of them all and similar to Max 1 projector.
I bought this for 100€ and 1 year ago it got white dots. How can i remove those? One more thing is that on the bottom of the projector it's a little bit black it's seems like maybe the projector is not in the correct position or something idk. And also the back cover was sticky so i sticked like a wooden decoration tape and i made it look even better and that solved the sticky problem. In this shop they had 2 and both where sticky
Back in 2012 somebody used this phone in public bus. Entire passengers astonished. Such cool device. They should improve beam clarity
This probably gonna sound stupid. But you have a perfect voice for such type of videos:D
This and the Samsung Galaxy Camera were those oddities of the Mobile era.
ur videos make my day
if the case was under 100 usd i would def get it, plus like i could use my note's stylus as some sort of remote. would be so nice for on the go movie/show time with friends.
nice video! just wondering, what is the background song in the beginning called?
Hi! Do you know how to fix wifi problem of xiaomi mi max 2? I'm so close to the modem but it gives me 1 bar of wifi signal
Yes. I wish they would release a Samsung projector case for the S23 Ultra phone! Imagine 2160p60fr video being projected onto a wall! That would be amazing!
A modern LED can easily generate the necessary luminous flux for a decent projector, allowing for a external projector module to be used in an obscured room for delivering a presentation or watching a movie with the family. It is a niche product anyway, because large TVs are nowadays cheaper than a professional projector phone...
Love your videos 💜👍🏻

All of a sudden voice memos don’t work, all of the 3 microphones don’t work, I factory reset, and I reset the settings and everything. I’m too poor to get a new phone, or get it fixed by a repair shop. Is they’re any way I can fix it?

Can u turn the galaxy beam into an ultra mini wireless projector with a touch screen interface so bacicly this but 2022
it is impossible to have a projector inside of an iPhone while maintaining its thickness. a projector module consists of 3 lcds, prisms and a LED light source. until we find a way to integrate them tightly, I dont think it will work/happen anytime soon.
Ok first off I love your videos they show me a lot of stuff and secondly can I ship my laptop? It's been not working and the mouse pad doesn't move half of the time I try to move it could I please ship it Thanks

I tought that You will show us the interface, and more specs about the phone.
The buttons are glued to frame on weak double sided tape, you can just unstick them from frame and take out the board with the buttons
With streaming options like chromecast Idk I can't say I'd really PAY extra on a phone just for a projector but, like a case that would be significantly cheaper and would have eventual 3rd party options I'd consider it

This isn't really like a flagship feature but more like a cool feature on a 300-500$ phone to make it more attractive. And it might even induce some flagship owners to buy it as a separate phone. Frankly though, it's better as a phone accessory that can be plugged in to the USB port
