In 1944, Sahir Ludhianvi, a poet and budding lyricist would first meet Amrita Pritam at a mushaira (poetry reading) in the village of Preet Nagar, between Lahore and Delhi. He was all intensity and idealism. She was striking, both for her beauty and her gift with words. It began like a worn-out cliché: their eyes met across a dimly lit room. However, the love story that followed was anything but conventional.
Yet Ludhianvi never committed to her. Theirs was a romance that was conducted through distances that Ludhianvi didn’t seem to want to bridge. They’d write love letters to each other, but the few times they met in secret, there were more silences than words.
In her autobiography, Rasidi Ticket, Pritam writes about how they’d sit in silence and gaze into each other’s eyes while Ludhianvi chain-smoked his cigarettes. After he left, Amrita picked up the stubs left by him and smoked them, pressing her lips upon the invisible imprint of his.
The challenges that faced Pritam and Ludhianvi were many. There was a period when both Ludhianvi and Pritam lived in Lahore, but soon he would move to Mumbai and when Partition happened, Pritam and her husband moved to Delhi. Pritam was prepared to give up her marriage - she’d eventually leave her husband anyway, without needing any encouragement from Ludhianvi - and her stature in Delhi as an intellectual and poet for the chance to be with Ludhianvi. He shimmers across Pritam's poetry and she makes no secret of her love for him in her autobiography Rasidi Ticket.
He, on the other hand, seemed less sure of himself and the future they may have. The attraction that he felt for her was compelling enough to shimmer across some of beautiful lyrics he penned, which is significant because Ludhianvi was at his poetic best when he embedded social critique and political idealism in his verses. Romance played second fiddle in his oeuvre. Still, Pritam and their unfulfilled love story did inspire him to write “Mehfil Se Uth Jaane Walo” for the film Dooj ka Chand (1964).

महान शायर , गीतकार,कवी साहीर लुधीयानवी साहाब को विनम्र अभिवादन और श्रद्धा सुमन अर्पित... विजयजी आपने सही कहा शायर गीतकार, कवी, लेखक इनकी ना कोई स्कुल होती, ना कॉलेज होता, ना कोई प्रशिक्षण संस्था होती. उन्हे तो कुदरत इस धरतीपर एक special task के लिये भेजती है Such persons are gifted persons,, इस महान गीतकार का जीवन बहोत संघर्षपूर्ण था, अपने जिंदगी के तजूरबे इस शायर ने अपनी कलमसे कागज पर उतारे और इसके माध्यमसे अपनी भावनाये व्यक्त कीऔर कलम का सम्राट बन गये ... जो भी गीत उन्होने हिंदी फिल्मो के किये लिखे वो काफी मशहूर और अजरामर हुये,.. महान लेखिका , कवियत्री आदरणीय अमृता प्रतिम जी का और साहीर साहाबका रिश्ता ये Silence Love था,... Silence expressed in words, जिंदगीमे खामोशी बोलती है , आँखे बोलती है , जो खामोशी और आँखोकी भाषा समझता है , वो प्यार की भाषा और प्यार को समझता है,.... "वो अफसाना जिसे अंजाम तक लाना ना हो मुमकिन उसे एक खूबसूरत मोड देकर छोडना चाहिये ".... ये साहीर साहाकी लाईने सिर्फ प्यार के रिश्ते तक ही सीमित नही है , इन्सानि जिंदगी के हर हिस्से, हर क्षेत्र , हर कार्य के किये लागू है ,.... कितना मार्मिक लिखा है साहीर साहाब ने " बरबादीयोका सोक मनाना फिझुल है " .. अपनी असफलता,, अपने दुख दर्द , अपनी बरबादी पे पर इन्सान ने कभी गम नही करना, अफसोस नही करना, बस चलते रहना, संघर्ष करते रहना, शायद, साहीर साहबमे अपने माँ से ये सिख ली होगी.. विजय जी आपका ये शो , और प्रस्तुती बहोत सुंदर , आपके शब्द बहोत प्रभावी... आपका बहोत बहोत शुक्रिया, सबका मंगल हो 👍🌹🙏.

गीतकार साहिर लुधियानवी के कहानी काफी रोचक है और उनकी शायरी एक से बढ़कर एक हैं। आप के कहानी प्रस्तुति करने का अंदाज बहुत ही रोचक है

लोग गीतकार कवि और शायर तो बन जाते हैं मगर सबसे मुश्किल काम संगीत बनाना है जो संगीतकार गीत की कंपोजिंग करता है यही सबसे मुश्किल काम है जो कहीं भी किसी भी इंस्टीट्यूशन में नहीं सिखाया जा सकता और संगीत ही ऐसी सी चीज है जो गीत या ग़ज़ल को किताबों और कापियों से उठाकर उसमें पंख लगाकर आम आदमी तक पहुंचाता है।

Your hard work, research, narration in impeccable Hindi n Urdu n your rich voice make this upload worth-cherishing. In regard to relationships , he is so on point when he says : " वो अफ़साना जिसे अंजाम तक लाना न हो मुमकिन उसे इक खूबसूरत मोड़ देकर छोड़ना अच्छा" He shook the nation's rulers when he wrote : " कहाँ हैं कहाँ हैं मुहाफ़िज़ खुदी के जिन्हें नाज़ है हिंद पर वो कहाँ हैं ? ". (said Einstein of Mahatma Gandhi)” Sahir’s poetry & wisdom would shine on this earth long after we have perished. SAHIR= Wisdom of Aristotle+Brilliance of Einstein. Sahir Ludhianvi was FIRST A PHILOSOPHER who wrote poetry to convey his GOD GIVEN WISDOM & life experiences of his own to common man for his/her welfare in his poetry. Every word was carefully crafted & inserted in the right context to convey true message from that great thinker for A given situation (issue facing common man under similar circumstances).Not even one other published poet in any language on this earth has addressed so many diverse issues facing the mortals in his/her work as Sahir has done in impeccable manner & forceful combination of words. Long after we (mortals) have perished immortal poetry by SAHIR would shine on this earth with light radiated by NEXT SUN after demise of the present Sun (and that is perhaps few hundred million years from now-- and also if "MEN" do not kill each other in between all those long years & life has to start with single cell organisms once again as full circle on this earth second time around).
