It takes a lot to win a World Series, and one of the most important factors in winning a championship comes from some unexpected places. To win a championship in MLB you have to have star power, players staying healthy, lucky breaks, and even more go your way. But one of the most important is getting an incredible run from a player you'd never expect, because getting high level play from an undervalued player can be the difference between missing the playoffs, and winning it all. In this video we'll look at the most recent incredible runs from undervalued players that played a major part in their team winning the World Series. We'll look at all the World Series winners since 2018, and the role players that helped win their team a championship.

Not a single Rangers fan was confident in Chapman. Cardiac Chapman was amazing for a few weeks and then lost all command. He couldn’t be used 2 days in a row else he’d fall apart on day 2. Sborz’s ERA was overly inflated due to the 2 times he spent recovering from an injury on the mound getting his stuff back. Playoff Sborz is what he was before he got injured the first time and after he got fully healed from his injury the second time.
No way you mentioned Marwin Gonzalez getting helped but said nothing about the 2018 sox

I would have to agree with this. Everyone puts the blame on the Astros, but nobody ever talks about the Red Sox. (Plus the confirmed use of illegal substances. There was so much pine tar on them that the adhesive would practically attract objects to their hands.)

That was ridiculous. Alex Cora took that system from the Astros to the Sox and the Sox never get the comments the Astros do.

In 2016 Cleveland had Roberto Perez and Rajai Davis, they had a combined 15 homers that year. Perez hit 4 in the playoffs and Rajai took a fastball down and away from Aroldis Chapman deep as he choked up on the bat. Without a rain delay I think that game ends differently and they get added to role player glory
Neat video. You did a good job highlighting Dane Dunning and Josh Sborz and their important roles in the Rangers' playoff run, but how about Evan Carter who made the jump to the Majors in September after only eight games in AAA Round Rock, then put up a .300/.417/.500 post-season slashline with a record nine doubles while playing in every game and putting up sparkling defense? Or Travis Jankowski who was forced into the lineup in the World Series after Adolis Garcia went down with an injury and slashed .286/.375/.429 while contributing a key RBI double as he put up a 2.3% cWPA in just three games?
AJ pollock and Chris Taylor on the dodgers in mlb the show 21 were both cheat codes for me
That Rangers team was awesome. I knew they meant business last year when my stros played them in regular season. Those guys were locked in and nobody was beating them. What a dam team.

This means a lot as a rangers fan bro, admittedly the stros are on a tear right now and just are a beast team
This is why the Astros are arguably one of the best teams in recent memory because they find the perfect balance of star power and role players

There was only about a month or two last season where anyone watching the Rangers trusted Chapman. His control issues seemed to get worse as the season went on
Marwin Gonzalez was the most versatile player I’ve ever seen. Hes a testament to the fact that if you can hit then the organization will find a way to keep you in the lineup.
This video can go back even further David Freese. Jackie Bradly Jr. I think you missed Jackie Bradly Jr on the Redsox too. Their worst hitter by far but when the lights were the brightest you could not get him out. Wish you would have went back further but this trend is definitely there. Even the 2017 Stros had a game winning WS hit from A. Bregman who was a rookie who stepped up in the 9th. Also Charlie Morten and Brad Freaking Peacock being completely lights out for that WS win. I’m gonna go order a mobaglobe now….
My friend, John Anthopoulos, whose dad is Alex Anthopoulos, is the best General manager
To skip the 2017 Astros and not the 2018 Red Sox is crazy considering they did the exact same thing 😭
2019 Nats were clutch af
JD Martinez won two silver slugger awards in fact. For DH and for OF
O's have their fair share of role players and unsung heroes step up this season. Ramon Urias has a gold glove and plays good defense at third base. Jorge Mateo creates havoc on the bases and is electric when he can just be a league-average hitter. Austin Hays and Heston Kjerstad have had some big games lately despite not getting regular playing time in the outfield. Their backup catcher James McCann is serviceable enough while allowing Adley to stay in the lineup as a DH. Ryan O'Hearn revived his career to become a borderline All-Star by mashing lefties. And Albert Suarez has been perhaps the most impactful, pitching a lot of important innings with their rotation losing 3 guys to Tommy John. If the O's win it all in 2024, then it will be due to their depth on their 40-man roster with a lot of help from the lesser-known guys.
why not call out the 2018 Red Sox for cheating when you did for the 2017 Astros? Steve Pierce stats in that postseason and eerily similar to Marwin Gonzalez.
Baseball is the ultimate "Team Sport" a team cant be carried by 3 players let alone 1
I’m a Ranger fan who despises Sborz whenever he pitched.
Ik u made the point abt that Astros in 2017 but why not make a point abt the 2018 Red Sox? Alex Cora brought a whole new cheating scheme to the redsox that year yet no one talks about it
Acting like the 2018 redsox didn't do the same thing as the 2017 Astros is laughable!
So let's all forget the 2018 Red Sox cheated as well. AUTO FAIL!!!!
Id like to see a video about the 4 people in History that hit three home runs in one world series game.
Cause it’s baseball..your number one player can only hit 4-5 times a game..thats like telling lebron he can touch the ball 12% of the offensive possessions..your ace cant pitch every game
Two words. Bucky Dent and Brian Doyle.
2018 Rafael D😮evers
1:17 The unsung hero was the worker banging on the trash can
1:47 just a little nitpick because this is a cool fact -- he actually won his second AND third silver slugger that year -- LF and DH. Also, I see a lot of people in the comments are hilariously gullible...
2018 Red Sox also cheated their way to a World Series, but sure go off

The 2024 Mets will be unsung heroes. As long as the Mets keep winning while the Phillies and Braves keep struggling after the All-Star break, the Mets will chase both the Phillies and the Braves for the NL East crown.
