I would love to see a Robert Eggers scifi movie! Although I suppose in a way, The Lighthouse already is.

Fantasy basically is sci-fi as far as I'm concerned

I almost don't want to listen to this, so I can go see the movie first and experience everything for the first time.

At 17:00 what's the name of the saga he mentions? With ghost seals, etc

He mentions it as Eyrbyggja saga, yeah it's hard to figure out phonetically.

I am fed up with directors prefacing interviews with pissing on their audiences. Eggers might be a genius, but his film's financial success depends on the recognition built by shows which might seem "macho". It also depends on the money brought in by audiences who are fond of Vikings and are not "Nazis" because of it. Like JJ Abrams profiting from the SciFi genre while calling the audiences "too white", such comments are just silly. If want to avoid Vikings because they were "appropriated" by "Nazis" (the audiences you'll soon invite to the theaters), why won't you shoot the next epic about native armies in the Amazon or the Gobi Desert?

@@simonriley4131 Not at all. I'm actually not into Vikings. But the issue's the same with many films these days.

@@simonriley4131 Robert Egger's comment wasn't even accurate and is a huge stretch. The original Nazis were German (along with allies across Europe), and the Vikings were mostly Germanic. There's no misappropriation there. Neo-Nazis appropriating skinhead culture (created by British Jamaicans) and punk music (created by anti-racists) is actual misappropriation. German Nazis also used Teutonic Knight and other imagery from the Northern Crusades, and those were also German and Germanic peoples who waged war against Poland and the Baltics. The value systems of all 3 groups were different, but fundamentally they were all German and Germanic. You cannot strip a people from their own ancestors and kin, just because the present iteration has a different value system. Christians of the Roman Empire had different beliefs compared to their pagan ancestors, but both are still Roman citizens.

What? He’s saying he personally doesn’t enjoy macho movies. He never makes a judgement call on the audience for liking them. Also he is uncomfortable by the association between vikings and neo-nazis seen nowadays. These are really normal statements. I think you are reading too hard into this.

I'm so sick of directors feeling like it's necessary that they push there political gripes at people who are sick of all of it. I'm a Eggers fan but please stfu about politics dude.
