No this is wrong, she didn't fear him but she did fear losing her sons in the conflict. An ongoing theme throughout fire and blood is that she never fought with syrax because she had to always stay to protect her sons but also because she never fought with syrax she ended up losing all her sons since at the moment she died she would have believed that all of them are fine except aegon who she would presume would follow after her. Her best trait was she loved her sons and her worse traits were that she loved her sons. If she left them with the guards at Kingsland when she ruled and mounted syrax she would be alive, if she rode after the ships on syrax after her sons were ambushed she would have gotten back her kidnapped son. If she did anything with syrax she would have maybe won. I mean look at sunfyre he is a baby dragon like 3 years older than moondancer who was barely big enough to ride and he carried aegon to victory saints the blacks killing 2 dragons 1 being fully grown and entire armies in the process plus he did most of those things while injured and thought to be on the brink of death

I just commented that Vhagar isn’t a total package. Yes she’s big and been to war, but she’s old and frankly enormous, which makes her less agile, and slower, she had to sneak attack to successfully hit her target/make her kill.

"Was afraid" Accurately assesses that the Blacks only have a theoretical advantage, not a real one in a full dragons v. dragons fight so she doesn't do it. She correctly reasons that at this stage the risk of losing all is too great and does not go to battle head on for no reason. Reason is the opposite of fear.

I dont understand why Rhaenyra said that. Not only had caraxes seen battle in the stepstones against the triarchy, but he had also fought with Tarth against the myrmen fleet during the 4th Dornish war. Whilst i fully accept that Vhaegar is truly in a class of her own, id argue that caraxes is certainly the #2 in terms of formidability. Experiences, ferocious, and the bond between him and daemon has been shown to be particularly powerful (evidenced by when daemon raises his arm to block a hail of arrows, and caraxes performs the exact same movement with his wing) And if daemon is the deadliest and most dangerous man in westeros, id argue having daemon and caraxes at LEAST amounts to having vhaegar, if not is even more advantageous…as we shall all assuredly see:)

​​@@connormcmurphy4276 I believe she was speaking to Daemon after he listed their dragons. The "we" she was referring to was all of their dragons, minus Daemon's own. Also, Caraxes is not Vhagar's equal. It says multiple times in the book that Caraxes couldn't hope to stand up to Vhagar, and Daemon avoiding facing Vhagar alone until he had no choice. If not for Daemon himself, Caraxes would have lost that 1v1 with Vhagar surviving. Caraxes speed gave him an early advantage, which Daemon capitalised on with a suicidal trick that killed Aemond but resulted is his own doom. With Aemond still alive, Vhagar probably would have taken the win

@@IdaSantti Caraxes and Meleys together, probably. Individually, no way. Most dragon fights went to thr ground, where superior size pays off. And Vhagar is MUCH larger. Meleys wasn't much of a fighter, she was said to be a little spoilt and slow by Rhaenys. She took out Sunfyre thanks to being much larger, but couldn't even finish the job on him

She was from the "3rd generation" of dragons the Tragaryen had after the original 3. Vermithor and Silverwinh were older and bigger if my memory serves me correctly, but at this point of the story they didn't have a rider. SPOILER In the book Meleys and Vhagar fight, and even if Vhagar still has the upper hand is suggester that Meleys is able to stand her ground and could have probably given a good fight. What decanted the encounter was the fact that it wasn't a one on one fight since Aegon's dragon was also present.

U guys really cant see a traumarized person who lost basically everyone she used to love go insane? Thats so hard to believe? 😂 Daenerys was already unstable before, so she went to Westeros and patiently tried to show that she was worthy of being queen. She didn't impose herself at any point, she didn't use threats until it was the last resort, and all she got in return was contempt and betrayal. I would have done this a long time ago, maybe I would still be able to save my dragons and the people i loved

After Cersei got the free pass in the show, for blowing up the High Sparrow and crew...then season 8 happened - yeah, I'm causing straight havoc. I'm pulling a Tyrion, I'm catching people on toilets and where ever else I can. There's no win in either scenario, you don't burn it - you're weak or you burn it and you're trash. If you're a female, you're below trash. Knowing that villains always get a quick death, I might as well choose violence. The dance in the beginning had so many opportunities for either side to quickly end the mess, imo, they really just wanted to murk themselves out.

He didn't count the eggs. He named and counted the numbers x vs y, then said 'i also have a score of eggs incubating at the dragonmont. And that was more of a ensurity that the loss of any dragons to war won't cripple targaryans future air superiority in a generation. Though he was still wrong since none hatch except the one baela takes

Her terrible politicking is legitimate, but yeah. I’d argue she’s too cautious when it comes to war. She’s never seen war nor cared for it. So of course she’s not good at waging war. But her biggest problem was not knowing how to manage the vassal lords. So when Aegon took the throne, none of the lords of the kingdoms care to risk their lives for Rheanyra

Tbh, the Greens would more than likely only have 3 dragons since I don't think Helaena/Dreamfyre would join any fighting. Also, depending on when they would enact this plan, there's a good chance that Daeron/Tessarion would still be in Oldtown if it was done earlier in the conflict so they might only have Aegon/Sunfyre and Aemond/Vhagar to defend King's Landing. I do understand Rhaenyra's hesitation to use the dragons in this way though, since they are very similar to our modern day nukes.

Also, dreamfyre is in the dragon pit, they aren't running helaena across town during a dragon attack to get on hers. I think sunfyre still was made at the ready but would still take at minimum 10 minutes before hed get airborne with his rider. Daemon was smart in the show to try and double team vhagar with caraxes and meleys quickly and then go from there. Find laenor in essos for one more job and you have 3 full grown war vet dragons jumping vhagar any one of them could break off if sunfyre appears early and likely handle a 1v1

Aemonds got the biggest and most war experienced dragon of course she fears only Aemond he’s the biggest threat LMAO.

So Vhagar (a little less than 180yo) could have lived another 40 or 50 years. Maybe only 20, but who knows. And yes, probably she was slower at this point, but remember, size is still useful: her mouth is big enough and strong enough to snap another dragon in half, and her fire is hot enough to melt rocks and metals. You need to be extremely careful, one wrong move, one single bite, and one dragon is dead.

Had the dragon seeds not betrayed her, victory in an all-out dragon battle would be very easy. Silverwing and Vermithor together can overpower Vhagar, leaving Sunfyre, Tessarion, and Dreamfyre to be completely destroyed by the combined might of Caraxes, Meleys, Seasmoke, Syrax, and Sheepstealer. Rhaenyra's and Daemon's children needn't get involved in the battle.

Plus vhagar low diffed caraxes in the final fight infact if I remember they said that all caraxes could do was hold on the vhagar while he was being torn apart but after vhagar ripped off one of his wings caraxes pulled both dragons towards the water and the fall killed vhagar on impact, leaving caraxes who landed ontop of vhagar which broke his fall to live a little longer before passing away. Infact even daemon knew he didn't stand a chance bro spent the whole war avoiding vhagar and then only started hunting down aemon when he had sheepstealer to back him up and after she left bro went to aemon where he said he's lived too long. Like daemon didn't even fight vhagar they both went for the kamikaze with caraxes pulling down vhagar and daemon onstrapping himself to jump over to aemon, they went there to die

@@martinreichl4719 what? Kamikaze or not, vhagar died and aemond got put down. Caraxes is smaller and younger than vhagar and still killed the older, bugger dragon. Caraxes and daemon are clearly stronger than vhagar/aemond when together. You could argue vhagar is past their prime and had a shitty dragon rider but the fact remains vhagar lost the battle. Dying is clearly losing, as we know caraxes crawled to shore therefore outlived vhagar.

I seem to recall the last time dragon fought dragon was in the Battle Beneath the God’s Eye between Prince Aegon the Uncrowned and his dragon Quicksilver, and King Maegor The Cruel and his dragon Balerion the Black Dread. That fight didn’t last long. Balerion, being 4x larger, decimated Quicksilver and suffered no permanent injuries. So yeah, I’d be afraid of anyone with the largest dragon.

She wasn’t afraid. She knew how devastating a war between dragon riders would be and wanted to avoid that. She also didn’t want the dragons to kill one another/die out. I do think she was too cautious though. If they had just jumped Vhagar this war would’ve ended in a day.

Btw putting all 3 of her sons in battle is a huge worrying it self

When non targaryen starts to tell you who are only two pure blood old valyrian houses left what to do with dragons, i would lose my shit. :D

King Viserys taught Power & Politics to Rhenera well that’s why she allied with strong warriors (Cristin Cole, Harwin Strong & Daemon) and strong houses (Valeryans, Strongs & Starks). But, she made serious mistakes (feeding lords to dragons) and showed weaknesses throughout her life. However, Prince Aemond made himself as a strong warrior and political scholar & being the rider of Vhager made himself as fierce fighter in both land and sky.

That's not the sea snakes. He looks nothing like his true born grandson.

What’s stopping Rhaena from claiming one of Dragonstone’s riderless dragons? She spent 6 years living on Dragonstone with her father and stepmother/cousin and she still remains dragonless. I know in the books, Rhaena is giving an egg from Syrax’s clutch which eventually hatches into Morning but that’s toward the end of the Dance, and Morning was still too young to be ridden. She should take her mother’s advice that she must claim a dragon, not wait for one to be born to her. Rhaena had coveted Vhagar after her mother’s death but since that’s no longer an option, the likes of Vermithor or Silverwing would be her next best bet.

Rhaenyra was afraid but not in this instance. Now the storming of the Pit is another matter completely…

Damnn they have silverwing too, they have the queen and the kings ancient dragons.

Whatever the Blacks have the Greens can always say "and I'll raise you one Vhagar". It really is a massively disproportionate counterweight. Including Vermithor and Silverwing the Blacks have maybe 5 dragons that Vhagar could not chop in a single bite. Two of the bigger dragons on the Blacks side v Vhagar would be the minimum required to make it a fair fight.

Both of the sides can just fly over and burn each other's homes, but it doesn't help anyone just dumb

I cant give Daemon respect for his "victory" over Aemond and Vhagar because he basically had to pull a super lucky, suicide maneuver to do it. It would be like if you were playing chess with someone then you picked the board up threw it across the room and said "I win".

That’s actually a really good point.

Team Green is TOO op for them to be beat fairly. I mean the only fair fight in the whole war is the battle over the gods eye.

I really love Rhaenyra's character. She's not about brute force, she's wise, strategic and thinks about the consequences that the dragons and war will bring to the common folk. There's just a lot of depth to her, i hope the series sticks to that and not reduce her to a Season 8 Dany

Noone is afraid of any singular dragon. Any 2 experienced dragons together can take Vhagar down with ease. That's not what they're afraid of. It's the whole lot of death and destruction inbetween and the loss of dragon life that they're wary of, because no matter who wins, they'll come out of the war much weaker than before.

Vhagar was the largest n probably the oldest n one of the smartest dragon at that period of time n no wonder why Vhagar is survival veteran of 100 battles

And it only took one of those dragons and its rider to beat Vhagar and hers.

Silverwing never saw much combat while Alysanne was her rider. Vermithor, however, has seen combat, and if the Blacks' dragons faced off against the Greens' dragons, it probably would've been the deciding factor in a fight against Vhagar. Vermithor, Caraxes, and Meleys together are more than a match against Vhagar, and I imagine Syrax, Vermax, and Seasmoke could make short work of Sunfyre. Dreamfyre wouldn't be a threat since Heleana never saw action, so that leaves Tessarion. I think you can see what im getting at.

Show is so good, i didn't know what to expect after GOT ,arguably the best show ever put on tv, but so far HOD has been great, i cant wait to see all the related shows coming over the next few years

Vhagar was survived the Dragon war.... None of the others have seen battle let alone a war

She was smart. Vhagar is the real fucking Queen (I am team Black, but seriously and #TeamVhagar).

If they flew to kingslanding immetiadly they would habe won. Aemond and vhaegar were gone. Also daemon could have used the same contacts he used for blood and cheese to cut off access for the dragon pit.

The best option is to kill aemond off his dragon or have multiple dragons attack vahagar before she can get off the ground as she is slow and if they can get her with aemond not on her back they can have a few elite swords man go for him as they have 4 dragons rip vagar to shreds

The thing is, inexperienced rider aside... Vhagar will surely kill a contender... The more experienced the contender and dragon the lesser the collateral,but youll still lose at least both an experience rider and dragon going against vhagar. Thats a hard wager considering if you dont contest with that wager youll easily lose whoever contends. Also she knows her family's strength derives from dragons... No point in losing all in one go ...
