    Nice. I'd like an episode where you compare cashback for food, drink and travel for revolut, monzo, starlling and other prominent online banks if you can in future.

    Just to clarify, does the 1% mark-up fee apply exclusively to in-app (accounts) currency exchanges during weekends, or does it also come into play for any card transactions in a different currency? For instance, if I only have GBP in my Revolut account and I'm making a purchase in Euros or any other currency. On a related note, it's worth mentioning that Revolut appears to charge a 1% fee on card transactions involving 'low liquidity' currencies like Thai Baht. This might be less than optimal compared to some other challenger banks that don't impose such fees, relying solely on their Mastercard or Visa rates Thanks for the video!

  • @Monitodotcom

    Yeah, so any type of currency exchange, whether you're doing it manually or as a card transaction made in a foreign currency, just like your example. Do you have a link for more info on this 'low liquidity' fee? Interestingly, I just checked Revolut's and Mastercard's exchange rates for GBP > THB. Right now (29/01 13:37GMT), MC is better. Mastercard: £1 = 45.40 Thai Baht Revolut: £1 = 44.67 Thai Baht

    No you don't have to exchange the money before, when you go to withdraw from an ATM or pay for something, if you don't have the currency exchanged already then Revolut will just do it for you at the point of sale. Hope that makes sense! ^Jonny

  • @Monitodotcom

    @Monitodotcom

    3 ай бұрын

    Yes you don't need to exchange before you travel, Revolut can do this at the point of sale with any currency you have deposited, as long as it's enough to cover the transaction. But remember, if you make a transaction at the weekend then they do charge a small mark-up fee, that's when exchanging in advance makes the most sense. @@stevemarshall2728

  • @Monitodotcom

    No you don't need to convert your balance beforehand. I only do this as a means of setting a budget for my travels. I like to have the euros ready in my account so I can better track my spending. BUT that isn't necessary and when you make the contactless transaction Revolut will automatically convert the money into euros. Just make sure to select pay with the local currency at the point of sale. ^Jonny

    Hi I have a question: Is it possible to rent a car with Revolut? The company told me that they accept also "debit card" but not "prepaid" So revolut is considered a "debit card" or a "prepaid" ?? Thank you so much for your help

  • @Monitodotcom

    @Monitodotcom

    5 ай бұрын

    This will depend on where you live. Now I can't be 100%, but I believe in the EU, Revolut cards are debit cards, because they have a banking license. In the UK, they're considered an eMoney Institution and so their cards are more likely to be pre-paid, this is the same as the US. May I ask where you're based? ^Jonny

    Okay, I want to say that I am not 100% sure.. I would recommend checking with the rental company, first, and asking if they accept debit cards, and if they take Revolut. I think because your card was issued in Italy, you should be fine, but it is worth checking beforehand. Keep me posted. ^Jonny

Yes, it's possible to pay by debit card as long as it has 16 digits, CVV, and an expiry date visible. It's not possible to use prepaid cards either. “ So should be okay hahahah I mean I don’t see the reason why they’ll not accept Revolut even if it has all this characteristics 🤷🏻‍♂️ Anyways thank you again and you have a new subscriber 😁👍

    Do you recommend using revolut as your main account?

  • @Monitodotcom

    @Monitodotcom

    5 ай бұрын

    No, at least not in the UK. You don't get deposit insurance on your current account balance, and there are better options for everyday spending. If you're based in the EEA, then that's a different story because you get deposit insurance up to €100,000. If you do want to use Revolut as your main account, and you're in the UK, you can still get deposit insurance, but that's only for funds in one of their savings vaults. So just make sure to deposit the majority of your money there, that way you have FSCS-protection up to £85,000 and added peace of mine. ^Jonny

    I do have a Revolut card. It is good for my holidays. However, the travel insurance perk does not include pre-existing conditions. In other words only fit and heathy people should apply. If you should have a medical condition in life then this insurance won't cover it when travelling. Older travellers, who are likely to have one or more medical conditions, will find they are not covered.
