Sure it's nice they may have reached out, but if they're only listening to the big creators instead of the whole entire community, who's been complaining about some of these for YEARS at this point, it isn't the best of signs

Well said Tara. I've been here since the very beginning (2016!), and I've seen a sharp decline in the concept of "The Community". It's really a bummer. But it didn't hurt me until I decided to redo my TacoCove map with RRS. I saw a swift uptick, then a sharp decline a couple weeks later, and I would argue that map is quite a high quality map. I was scratching my head why it wasn't featured better or at least a little more visible. Either way, it suffered and never really made any real visitor gains from when I had originally made it back int 2018! Definitely disappointing, and I think you hit all the right things here as what the underlying issue is. Algorithms are tough, but it doesn't take 7+ years to make a good one that properly serves the community and the creators behind it. I've stopped giving feedback these days. I was much more passionate and vocal about changes, even pulled a "i'm leaving rec room" stunt to try and get awareness of how disruptive their sudden feature additions (or removals!) were to creators, and how they used creator contests as test beds for new features which severely crippled creators while trying desperatly to make their deadlines. I don't know, I tend to use RR as a personal creative outlet these days. I'm always on, but rarely to do I show myself; like a RR Hermit. :/

Also I fully support doing a complete overhaul/refresh of the featured category. I STILL have hangout rooms listed in there, that have been up for years, and that's just not right. It's like Ducky's place and my lakehouse and then a couple others. They need to go in there and shake it up. There are so many better hangout spaces these days, my lakehouse looks quite basic these days...

Rec Room looks like they see creators as their future but most of the changes that have happened have only suppressed actual good maps and instead promoted some park with a couple inventions

A suggestion I had was what if for games like paintball and laser tag they once every month select a map made by the community and put it in the RRO tab maybe the maker of the map gets paid a amount of items bought in that little gift shop and maybe in order to have a map qualify they would need to have the map be unique OR have a new weapon using CW2 Just imagine how could that could be and maybe once a year all the maps are selected for the vote and the winning map gets to stay

I liked this, it was just addressing the fact there have been way to many "Cash grabs" Aka clicker games also i have believe that there shouldnt be so many army/millitary games because theres way to many of them and there all just cash grabs taking up space in the new/hot tab

There are a lot of ways Rec room can improve in general, but I liked the point that one small rec room creator made on just how Rec room are trying their best. They have done so much for the game and they're trying to improve it so much. I just really appreciate all the Devs effort put into this game. Rec room will always be one of my favorite games.

For me, the thing that would bring me back to Rec Room would be if they just finally optimized the game and watch to run better. I don't really care about the items too much or much else, but when I can't even hang out with my friends without my game lagging a lot or crashing, it gets really annoying so I've mostly quit now.

I loved going to the invention store. All the change is rr killing itself and the community. What some players are doing to kill it is making copy and pasted type rooms on top as players being racist or being sexual towards another player.

I made BloodyArenaPVP, we took under 3 hours to do

I teared up watching this. I was so lucky to start building when Invention Tower was all the rage. Getting my inventions both in the tower and featured was so confidence boosting to me that I grew to love building inventions each week to see which ones made it in. I met my best RecRoom friend Lady_Pearla in the tower as we shared that excitement and motivation each week. We would pop in there each time to excitedly watch everyone enjoying what we had created. After submissions stopped, we felt a bit lost. We spent the next months grasping at any event that allowed us to get featured like Contests, Rec Rocks, Rec Con, ect. and eventually just trying to motivate each other by setting our own build goals. We still have to struggle to keep up with the changes and this doesn't help out new creators either as many of them have no way to get recognized enough to justify spending time to build quality stuff. Thank you so much for making this video by the way. I really love your suggestions as I would love to see Invention Tower return or perhaps even bring featured inventions and dormskins back!

I cannot expalin how glad I am that Content Creators like you, make this kinds of videos. It breaks my heart looking back in the past and seeing how excited I used to be when creating maps and getting even just a bit of recognition, which helped me a lot. But realizing that they barely even care for us now, it makes me backup and think about leaving the community or keep going. Me as one of the main creators who founded the Spanish Community on Rec Room, i´ve been fighting for my community to be featured even more, and I barely got anything from all the ideas I´ve gave to Rec Room. I hope this video is watched by some Rec Room Staff members and they reconsider working better along creators and its community. New subscriber!

I've been a active creator since 2019, I've participated in 9 contests, placing all the way from top 10 to top 1. Its amazing to see the high that was early 2021 for creators, discovering a amazing way to get paid for art, to the low that is now were art seems to be dead.

Featured inventions, Invention tower, and featured rooms MUST Come back! As a recroom creator with higher quality rooms, I understand exactly what you mean. Lower end rooms get tons of traction and higher quality rooms seem to be not even noticed.

yea I used to spend a ton of time doing circuits and made a fair bit of money off it but after a while I felt like RR was supporting the big creator groups like ink overflow and I left after that Edit: RR also doesn't help independent creators when we don't get our money and as a result we feel kinda left in the dust

I agree with this video A TON! Especially with the room rewards and the carousels. I worked on a map “^PlanZeta-Imperfectum” for MONTHS and it is such a high quality action quest. I saw an obby get released at the same time and my quest stopped at 12.2k meanwhile this obby is over 100k. It’s absolutely insane that all of my work has gone into the back end of Rec Room when I put soooo much time into that quest. It is absolutely insane. This makes me wonder how many other games are pushed to the side like that.

As a Rec room builder I can say some of or all of these ideas are great since ive been a creator for 4y now and other problems i have spent hours on and creating maps but never really got noticed. Thank you for this video

As a room creator with my friends, like a build your own room, I really hate when Rec Room replaced the community board with the watch UI. Why would they do that?

I think this is one of the most eye opening videos when it comes to exposing the cheaters in contests, and covering the pretty abhorrent regulations regarding qualifying for room rewards! Great video and cant wait for the next one!

I have been a RR builder for 3+ years. This video made me realize why I have been feeling a lack of motivation in building rooms knowing that a "Skibidi Fun Land" map will get more visit and will profit more from the 50% more credit then any map I put days of work into.

They should start off with bringing back weeklys

As a creator myself, I remember when I'd be able to pay rent for a time solely off of featured custom Shirts and Inventions and playing the game was not only fun but inspiring! Now playing it feels like I'm wasting time or I might be able to do this until I realize I'm wasting time

Very well done. I have to agree with each and every point you made. Since the Rhythm and Hues contest I haven't built a single thing.

This is why I don’t make rooms as much as I used to. The other ones are way too hard to compete with especially the fact that I don’t have RRS I just can’t. So I stick with inventions and try and get them into the Rec Room Gallery. Well, I hope things improve for the RR community. One thing that really I was happy with was that for Rec con, that with the maker pen hunt, people actually visited the booth. Great vid! (I forgot the mention, invention tower was discontinued to draw more attention to the gallery because they where pretty much the same thing)

Thank you for putting this out as me as well as many other creators in rec room have decided to or already have left rec room due to some of these issues and many more but it doesn't seem they will ever listen to us, aha. you took the words basically out of my mouth. i was working on a super high detailed dorm skin when they suddenly decided to completely kill off the featured inventions and ink inc... it just sucks to see the very game ive been playing for so long every day just treat their community like this. also im happy you recorded in my room again! :D

I 100% agree with all of the points that you made in this, and I also respect you so much for making it in the first place. As someone who also creates content on Rec Room, the only times I've actually gotten on Rec Room these past few months was for the monthly challenge, and to get footage and pictures for videos. While I'm happy that Rec Room at least decided to take action on the Roblox thumbnails, *which honestly bothered me the most since most of the Roblox thumbnails are just straight up stolen off of Google, which says a lot about how much work they actually put in the map,* I think there needs to be a lot more changes that Rec Room needs to implement in order to make Rec Room way more enjoyable again, and I also think that Rec Room needs to communicate way more with their audience when it comes to this. Sorry for the long rant, anyway, good video lol

I stopped playing and creating rooms on RecRoom, One of many reasons are demotivating due to most rooms gets to have Studio in use, and a big margin of us without it are left behind with barely any visits, even though we put in multiple hours into our projects. It's also sad to hear about how they deny access to new creative features due to the players past behaviors (Which can go back many years). So, that's why I quit..

Thank you for putting the way we all have been feeling lately in to words. This sucks and it seems like recroom doesn't care how burned out the creative community is getting after they cancled or ruined anything designed to help creators. I have friends who have gone from being excited to show me a new map they worked hard on to being embarrassed to show me a low effort cash grab map they felt forced into. I don't know if I like what recroom is becoming.

Yes, that's happened to me too, creators are just doing what they can, but unfortunately they've had to make things they're NOT proud of just to try and gain recognition. It's not healthy for the creative spirit at that point and they just suffer burnout. I appreciate your feedback!

Hey Three headed. I couldn't agree more .. glad she made this video too. Don't think it will change things though. You yourself worked so hard in RR and put out quality maps .. and get little to no recognition. I built maps too .. and got a couple featured proud to say .. but it would have been nice to get something from Coach even as a good job present for getting featured. Now I hear they did away with featured rooms as I was thinking of submitting one. Way to go RR

I’m so excited for full body in rec room it’s going to be so fun you will finally be able to walk around as a full on avatar instead of a bean with floating arms and head but I understand her pain and it does hurt especially if you have met people in the game and friends

#2 was so true, my friend thecoolcapybara/thecapy arawhisperer made a quest called revenge of the king, and it’s so underrated that to play it I have to favorite it to play it regularly because everything is skibidi toilet, clicking sims, build scenes, and Roblox copies. It just isn’t fair tbh.

This was such a good video to watch. It literally made me sad aswell that they’ve ruined room rewards and loads of things. Rec Room really needs to do what u said because it’s just perfect. Thanks Tara.

I remember seeing a rec room map that was just a shop template with the only difference being a floating orange cube, it had over 100k visits.

I've started taking a break from Rec Room for a while now to play some other games I find fun. I do go online from time to time, but not very active right now. The play tab lacking diversity is a really bad thing. Really wish it was more diverse, that would help a lot.

4:03 from featured rooms, my friend got 200k visits on his contest room in 2021 11:05 im really sad invention tower got removed, i was in invention tower (and the reccenter) on april 1st 2022 and i made 100 thousand tokens and a ton of subscribers. it was really a great system

Thank you for being a voice for the Rec Room creative community. I think that Rec Room has been feeling a lot less like a community lately, in part because of all the reasons you’ve stated. I know so many small and large builders leaving Rec Room due to the recent changes. I hope that Rec Room listens and brings back low cost programs that had a positive impact. They need to also find ways to bring exposure to newer and talented creators.

RecRoom should take this video to heart and strategize ways to fix the points you noted as I'm confident MANY other creators have the same viewpoint and are simply giving up rather than expressing their mind on the topic. I know you're not an agent of controversy so I really do appreciate someone is stepping up to the plate and expressing the concerns on behalf of all the creator community; many creators simply will not express these concerns as they evade uncomfortable situations as much as possible.

It’s hard to even want to log on sometimes. I used to make all kinds of rooms, now struggle to find ANY motivation to build. 100k subscribers in-game, and that number means NOTHING

There's a few ideas I'd love to get made. But I can't ever find anyone to ever help me or even show me how to build better, so I've kinda left my ideas in the trash and rarely play rec room. And the worst part is, RR doesn't have any way to make teams for contests. Can't ever find any these days

It warms my heart when I see people getting mad on rec room, because it's just funny remembering how rectubers liked all these "good" decisions rec room made

Im so glad someone made this video, there's always the excitement of something new but slowly but surely they lose motivation to actually put work into it and it ends up being automated or being replaced with an 'algorithm' so recroom doesn't have to pay a human to change things around. Hearing your voice break before you were going to cry made me lose hope. Hang in there!

I've mentioned this countless times, not specifically here, but in general. Rec Room, like many other game companies, prioritizes their profits over their fans. Instead of focusing on creating updates that fans would truly appreciate, it's like they are primarily concerned with how much money they're making.

I'm a quest player so I REALLY want a new quest or more originals in general! That is my only real problem, and not a bug one either! I still REALLY love the game, and I'm excited for its future!

I do find it extremely annoying trying to find a game to play on Rec room. I got it on my Xbox back in 2021 but started playing alot more when I got my VR on Christmas 2023 and already extremely bored of it.

My custom shirt has been featured for a while sitting at the near bottom of the list. I even spend all of my tokens I get just to gift the less fortunate players who don’t know how to get tokens in the first place. I just wish they would bring back some of the rotations so more newer creators could get a chance in the spotlight.

As someone who’s played since 2018, I’ve had the misfortune of seeing how severely Room quality has plummeted lately. So many great quality games have died way faster than they should have.

I’m glad your one of the only big RR creators bringing these issues, since most don’t because they get paid by RR.

I think most don't because they're not that involved with the build community. I've never once heard another RecTuber say they won't speak up for fear of being paid via their video partner code. I don't think Rec Room takes codes from people who voice their opinion in a legit mature way.

as a rec room creator that is currently growing and becoming more popular, I would love to have my games get more popular as I have made some good rooms, but they only manage to get low on the new tab, only raking in about 3k visits - 10k visits. I feel as if they are making it impossible to grow as none of the old things that used to work to promote your game work anymore, (idk why i wrote this)

I have creator content, I did some hangout maps that I'm proud of, but don't earn tokens on since i decided not to become a Plus member. But for creators who spend hours building for the community, and for recognition and compensation, I feel your pain. I've talked to some creator friends and see the frustration and recent lack of motivation. Content creators, including small ones like myself, need more recognition. I also agree they should change the algorithms so we can find these quality maps easier. I find myself trying to find new maps by clicking on people's profiles. I found some really nice rooms with only a couple hundred visits because they're never featured. The other contention I have, as a player this time, is that without Plus i'm token poor, originals have decreased token box earings, and inventions are crazy expensive. If RR could work on these issues it would be amazing. I'm sure everyone, players and creators alike, have appreciated your making of this video Tara. Hope RR takes notice. Hope to meet you someday. I agree, it's really tough without many tools to find those small gem maps that often go undiscovered!!

As someone who has essentially quit rec room as a creator, this video hits home in a few ways. I am one of the lucky creators that still has an invention in the featured tab (It was shown for a minute in this vid) but despite still making money off this game, I haven’t touched creator tools in months. Seeing one of my overall lowest quality premium inventions surpass all my other inventions and rooms in earnings really discourages me, knowing nothing else I or really any other new creator makes will be able to reach that success because of the lack of any promotion for new creators.

Its nice to see so many people care about the community i am apart of. Its tiring to see Ignited everything or clicker games on my watch tabs. Its a big race with trends and everything theres no new games anymore thats why i joined the building community in the first place. I am a small creator but its nice to see people stand up against cash grabs.

I know a friend who relates to this he said he temporarily quit since of the contest and other things unnoticed.

As someone who just started really focusing on trying to build, I hate seeing all those copy paste clicker games, I have a friend who does that and makes bank, while i spend my time making a game for it to have 400 visits rec room needs to actually fix the recommended rooms because they are all just copy and paste clicker/simulator games. :/ I also do agree on adding big creators getting reward bubblies and other things, because achieving 100k+ visits is very tough.

Im really upset, since emily waffles started working for rec room she dosent upload anything for her own channel. And its so sad. Im so happy for her, but miss her own videos!

Been working on my one game for a year, teaching myself everything there is to know, it does suck to have these things happen. I likely won't be a popular creator for years, but these make it far harder to succeed. However, this is getting me into game developement slowly when I otherwise might have not. I enjoy working on one game anyway as I learn more.

I loved Invention tower as well... And when I saw that it hasn't been updated for three weeks, I ALMOST QUIT. You are in FLAMING HOT water, Rec Room. ) :

My first vr game that I loved was population one and I've been easing back into it because of the prices in recroom

Rec Room is actually hiring ML engineers at this point in time which could mean them working on a new method for showing rooms to people

I myself am a creator (I am not a big creator only 2k subs), and I did quit because of these problems I will admit I abused it until I realised what was happening and then I made good rooms and quit because I realised how hard it is for good quality rooms to grow. I miss old recroom and the joy I felt on the loading screen waiting to load in to my dorm. Now I just get on occasionally to say hi to friends. Anyways thank you Tara for this video!

I remember they did a snowman competition and I make 3 really cool snowman and not one was recognized. With really crushed my dreams but I saw some of the other that was in as well and kinda mad some of those didn't win

About the community board the videos never worked for me so all I could do is see pictures and the watch board dosent even work as a watch you have to open your watch to even go to rooms using it

Me and my friends used to play rec room all the time, now the game has changed, sucking the fun out of it. I miss the good old days. Sure, it's still great to play, but the aspect just isn't the same anymore. Love your content, Tarapeutic!

Don't get me wrong, I still love Rec Room, and always will be grateful for all my experiences and good times there, but god this video really just represents the current downward decline of the game. They are no longer listening to their community in any capacity, proven even moreso by the fact they've hosted a singular AMA in the past year. I miss creating videos and playing the game, but it has become next to impossible to get myself to do so when every time I log on, things don't feel the same, the "Play" tab is honestly terrifying, and issues that have existed since I began playing almost 4 YEARS ago are still present. Thank you for this very insightful, and as always great video. I love the invention tower, it's was on my favorites, going there was a weekly thing for me, every week, I go there to check out new inventions, admire them, buy maybe one or two, and place them in my dorm. It's sad that they discontinued it

The game is centered around the players, so we should have a decent amount of say in what goes on in the game, right? Of course, I understand the hesitancy to post videos like this because after all, rec room gave you this platform to make videos on. At the same time, it's absolutely horrible watching a game you've loved for years make terrible decisions, effectively harming itself in the process. I've been talking about some rec room issues lately too, and I think its vital to keep our voices heard. Great video!

Thanks for the input, I appreciate it! Yeah I don't like complaining too much about things, it's just not how I am. But I've spent many mornings frustrated, speaking with a friend about how difficult it is for creators and what can be done. To the point that I guess I have many opinions - one of my longest talking videos to date!

I'm not a RR creator in the sense I earn tokens for my maps or inventions.. although I have some hangout maps, mostly built for my own pleasure ... but for content creators who have spent countless hours building and showcasing maps for the community and for some extra recognition and compensation I feel your pain. RR has done so much to kill motivation. It is sad to see my creator friends becoming downtrodden on this point. I'm mostly a player unstead of creator and have become upset at a few things as well. I don't want to become a plus member, therefore I am always token poor, and the prices of inventions have gotten insane. At the same time token earnings have gone downhill for playing originals. As far as finding content, a quick look at the players watch brings up the same maps over and over. The only way I find new things is to click on creators profiles and check out their portfolios. There are thousands of high quality maps that have only gotten a couple hundred views cause they're never seen. Not that you can put thousands of maps on a watch, but they can change the algorithms. It just sucks that the same rooms keep popping up on the watch month to month, year to year. I would love to explore .. but RR makes it difficult. They advertise thousands of player content rooms .. but squash any way of finding those rooms. I had two of my rooms featured, which made me feel accomplished. And now I learn they've taken that away too. It's a shame. Creators have made the game what it is today .. we should be showcasing their talents more, and making it easier to find them

This is the worst. but I’m gonna try to continue working on maps until I finish all of the projects I have to make since I have so many good ideas for games that I really want to work on

The only thing I can defend RR on is the invention tower Creators were making basically no tokens from it since people didn't want to go to the invention tower and look around (on the explosive theme, half of the featured inventions didn't make over 10k tokens) But the removal of the other featured categories still baffles me Also the featured custom shirts were closed because Megan was on maternity leave

Appreciate the input! Invention Tower could have been revamped and promoted more, instead of discontinued? This is a hill I will die on apparently 😆I had too much fun there.

Im so glad bigger creators are calling out Rec Room on, not only their greed, but their worsening platform. Rec room is becoming non enjoyable and im sick of making rooms now, seeing as they stopped caring about their community. Rec room is not even looking at their players and want creators to raise the platform. (It kind of reminds me of parents who make their kids raise their kids)

As someone who has been working on a game for the past 9 months(probably will be in the works for another 4 months) it makes me scared that the minute I post it it will just be put all the way down to the bottom, all of my hard thinking and hard work will just be pushed to the bottom. This isn't how it should be for people like me who put so much hard work and time into a game.

Im so tired of getting on rec room to play a GOOD game just to see "SkibidiToilet-RP-Sussy-HuggyWuggy-PoppyPlaytimeGrimace-Fun"...i miss the old games where you knew the creator actually had fun creating the game and put work into it, i also miss the invention tower, i remember me and my friends constantly pointing out amazing inventions we somehow didnt notice, we'd promise to check out all the floors we wanted to go to, but never did. when i noticed the invention tower was slowly forgetting to update i was starting to think that the creators just were tired or forgot to update everything. That was a year ago.. I feel like RecRoom is just slowly killing its community...

I haven’t played Rec room in a year and I’m surprised how much has Happened, I’m disappointed in rec room 😔

Rec Room is great concept and platform that has so much potential to keep growing and being a leader in the industry. But, Instead of improving, innovating and listening to the users and creators, the company seems to be very stagnant and more interested in milking the current platform until they kill it rather than reinvesting in its growth and development. They continue to remove features that users like (like weekly challenges), they don't update maps of popular games (like rec royal or paintball), and they don't seem to have any interest in responding to obvious problems. I used to be able to jump on a game of RR squads or solos anytime, almost always running into my RR friends, but it takes forever to get a game started these days and MANY of my old RR friends have moved on to other platforms because they got bored. There are so many simple fixes and creative ideas that I've heard discussed but RR just keeps sliding backwards. A few suggestions: feature only good maps on the board so people don't feel like they're wasting their time trying some of them out, get creative with some of the popular maps so they are fun again - new maps, seasonal maps, new weapons, new placement of the weapons, etc. With rec room squads, and especially solos, require fewer people for the game to start - maybe every minute or two the number of players required drops so at least you know it's worth waiting in the lobby because eventually you will get to play. Is there actually somewhere within Rec Room to make suggestions?

Yes, you can give feedback via a Zendesk ticket I believe! I agree about Rec Royale. Man it's SO FRUSTRATING to wait for the lobby to fill sometimes! You need what, 18 people for squads? And someone can be loading in then crash and it just breaks the entire lobby.

It's sad just how disconnected I've been from the creator/building side of the community- more focused on the social aspect that's always been at the core of Rec Room which I could enjoy- and yet all of the problems you've highlighted in the video are things I'm well aware of. (With the exception of what happened to contests, that really baffled me.) As someone who's opened up in recent times to creating things like custom shirts and inventions, I can relate to a lot of the struggles within the community. Custom rooms are a big part of what makes this game what it is today, even if it's not particularly my thing, so it's truly disappointing that so many players are being fed unoriginal and uninteresting content. It feels like systems they had in place to promote up and coming creators wilted instead of growing to accommodate the influx of inspired users eager to make their own content. What's worse is that building isn't even the most underappreciated form of creative expression in game. Inventions losing many forms of promotion such as the Invention Tower's shutdown meaning asset builders and 2D artists are facing complete drops in engagement. On the topic of 2D artists, myself and I'm sure many others have also had a lot of trouble in recent times promoting custom shirts. The trending tab in the shop simply doesn't do it justice and only promotes people to buy the shirts that line the trending page, which ends up just keeping them there even longer. For me, the type of custom shirts I publish are incredibly niche and likely struggle to even reach the intended audience, but with no hopes to have my work featured- as we have no system for that anymore- and the trending tab only for shirts already selling, I have absolutely no hope any design will sell even twice. Instead, entirely printed shirts dominating the custom shirts category of the store, once again leaving the actual 2D artists and their works in the dust. Even in the Rec Room official discord people have learned that they can easily promote their printed custom shirts by frequently posting the same promotional image accompanied by a wall of text, which pushes up creators who use the channel to sparingly and appropriately promote their own work and takes up the entire screen of whoever clicks on the channel. There's so much more to be said about the creative and casual sides of the game, and I really hope to see some genuine improvement on the things the community has been advocating for sooner (most preferably) or later. All in all, wonderful video Tera, I'm sure this has opened the eyes of many players and hopefully the Rec Room team themselves as well. This game is in dire need of some positive change.

I appreciate all your insights, especially about the custom shirts! I could have added so much more to this video. I'm not as familiar with the artist/inventor side of things, but none of this surprises me.

CAPCUT is a good free one! Any software is pretty much fine you just have to learn how to use it!

sooo i have a on and off relationship with this game, usually after i stop playing the game for a few months il return and there will be some huge upgrades to the game! but i recently returned and WHEN DID THE WEEKLY GET REMOVED??? AND THE BOARD TOO??? i do believe i wont stick to rec room sadly even tho i the art style and social aspect of some of the games, hope they make some sort of change that makes me wanna return but i suppose for now ill only use it to record my avatar standing in front of a green screen doing random stuff or hang out with some friends.

Hopefully Tara will never quit… 😅
