A friend of mine's great grandparents bought 200 acres of land with a house for six pieces of silver during the depression. That land has been passed down for generations and is now a homestead. They have no idea how much the silver weighed but I'd like to know.

I'm prepper stacker myself, and I firmly believe that by the time I retire in 2035........I won't be able to count on Social Security or even my traditional IRA investments. What will cover the gap.........precious metals, if you can't afford Gold..........buy Silver, @ 20-30 an ounce, its a bargain. I believe in this quote "Fiat currency always eventually returns to its intrinsic value--zero."

Loved this segment. I, too, believe in the power of precious metals particularly silver and in smaller denominations. I’ve always believed in its pier as a long term investment and as a hedge against inflation. As a Southerner, I’ll never forget the worthlessness of the Confederate bills. I look at the US dollar the same way especially now. My late husband believed the US dollar would never lose its value. I, however, am not so trusting after watching the antics of this Administration. Take care Patriots.

You are the reason I got into silver last year and I thank you for getting me prepared for whatever may happen.

Started stacking silver back in January and I have a feeling it's going to pay off in the end. I'm not looking to get rich but I want to be able to pass something down to my sons and if needed a valuable commodity to trade with if our Fiat currency goes to complete hell. I've picked up a little gold but mainly sticking to silver. For people getting that are interested in getting started just pick up a few 1oz rounds here and there, just make sure to hold onto it and never let it go. It's amazing how quickly you can stack if you budget properly. At first I kinda over did it getting a little wrapped in FOMO (fear of missing out) so make sure to pace yourself accordingly to your budget.

That sounds a lot like those in power not wanting to place a VAT on the metal of their choice but taxing silver seems to be OK to them. What is your thought on this and does it affect your choice of metal?

@@edb3877 I have just begun stacking. I buy mostly silver at the moment as we are preppers and a "currency" that can replace paper & electronic money may become a necessity. Look at Venezuela, for instance. In Britain we have a pernicious inheritance tax, or death duties. Coins of the realm are exempt this so my young 'uns will not pay tax on them. I'm still learning..

@@robhunt-watts8908 Agreed, Rob. I started stacking silver in 2010 for these same reasons. I've built a good sized stack and am now focusing on stacking gold. For no particular reason, I figured that a 100:1 ratio of silver ounces to gold ounces would be good to stack. I am about 5 ozs. of gold short of that goal right now but am not sure what I will do once I hit that number. It's good that there is a significant benefit to coins of the realm, so buying them for your sons makes really good sense. Still learning? Yes, so am I after doing this for the past 11+ years. I used to be pretty good at math and when I look at how the US Gov and Fed manage the US$, I am shocked at their lack of competence. Throughout history, many countries have abused and eventually destroyed their national currency. In ancient times, this was done by adding lead and zinc to the silver coins and copper to the gold coins. Merchants were quick to discover this, so reduced the buying power of these newer coins. In modern times, they simply print a lot more paper currency but the end result is the same... a debauched currency. Everyday people are the ones who suffer most from these financial games, so it is up to us to protect ourselves as best we can from government financial incompetence. I am not picking on any individual or party in this because all of them have either done their share of it or refused to address these issues when they got elected. We can't afford to waste time on recriminations, though. What we need are positive actions to protect ourselves and those whom we love. I do this in a number of ways but stacking and prepping are high on my to-do list.

I have a couple silver dollars my grandmother gave me, and they are dated 1920! I also have an antique silver horn made by the famous Micheal York & Son, that was dated to about 1905. I found it in the attic of the house they bought in 1947, after immigrating to the USA. They thought it was just junk left by the previous owner.

Yeah, I'm not sold on this. Right now, taking a gemstone ring in to a 'gold buyer' and they'll offer gold value for it, but nothing for the gem at all. Same with the jewelers in town, just silver/gold value of a necklace. They offer to return the gemstone but aren't interested in it at all.

Very well done. I agree with silver! When it comes to being more rare that it is above ground but below it is way less rare than gold. Silver hedges well against everything due to how likely it is to be used as you mentioned in so many industries! Awesome work, love the collection!

Here is a thought. American pennies 1982 and older are 95% copper. Anything 1983 and newer are a little over 2% copper. Go through your pennies and keep the 95% ones and throw the rest on the ground. They changed the metal compound because it was costing more than a cent to produce them. Now they are mostly zinc. Same concept of precious metal value increasing. Save them it’s proven by date of coin the metal content

@@tacticaltacocat Just weigh them, a copper 82 should weigh in at 3.1-3.2 grams a non copper 82 weighs in at 1.555 grams, weighing is the easiest way to tell.

Good Morning from the land of ice and snow Everyone! It is widely understood in the precious metals stacker community that fourteen 1964 and earlier dimes equal one ounce of silver in melt value. It is an excellent way to have fractional amounts. I started early in life in stacking junk silver. I would go to the bank and exchange $10.00 cash for two rolls of dimes, take them home and go through them. Pick out the 1964 and earlier dimes and replace with 1965 and later ones and repeat. I also did this with quarters, half dollars and silver dollars. This method is a great way to get started.

The only precious metals I invested in are Brass, lead, copper, chromium and depleted uranium. Those metals and a few chemicals have gone up in value 400% Self defense, food on the table is priceless in other words I would trade a squirrel for a gold, silver or platinum coin. In Bosnia a 1kg keg of propane wasn’t even traded for its weight in gold.

Colloidal silver. Fairly easy to make with very little silver. I wouldn't call it crude. Probably better than what you can buy today.

@@bobjones9727 It's definitely better than any other over the counter antibiotic/antiviral I can think of. Besides certain fish antibiotics that is. Compared to other antibiotic substances it's also a lot easier to store since honey and garlic require some infrastructure but for colloidal silver you just need a battery, wire, container, 1 oz .999 fine silver and some clean water.

I like to keep silver shot or silver slivers in my collection also. It is much more easily divisible relative to 1, 5, or 10 ounce coins/bars and definitely easier then trying to divide a kilo bar for a small purchase.

Gold is the means of exchange between nations, silver is the means of exchange between individuals. It's a good idea to have some gold and silver. Buy it for the lowest premium possible. Bars have a lower premium than coins. 1/4 & 1/2 oz coins have a higher premium than 1 oz coins. Some states don't charge sales tax on coins that are legal tender and some will. Don't pay the tax if you don't have to. Don't spend money you can't do without on gold and silver. Talk to your local coin shop about what they sell. If they are selling Canada Maple Leafs or UK Britannia's buy them instead of America Eagles. They have a lower premium. Pay with cash at the coin shop and wire transfers for online purchases to get the lowest premium. Don't tell people you have gold or silver and get a safe. Hide it somewhere behind a bunch of stuff.

I understand the face value of Constitutional silver (junk silver), is $1.40 equals 1 ounce of silver, 70 cents equals a half ounce of silver and 35 cents equals a quarter ounce of silver.

Many people in my generation (im 31) are caught up in day trading, swing trading, cryptos, NFTs. I am not one of them. Two places I put my income: back into my growing business, and gold and some silver. GREAT vid. Thank you!

I personally don't see any value in precious metals post SHTF. I would place a much higher value in barter items with actual, obvious utility like food, medicine, tools, seeds, livestock, fabric -- stuff that folks actually **need**. Plus, if we are talking post SHTF, then the value of precious metals will vary widely since there is no coordinated financial market to track spot price and likely no way to communicate it in a timely manner; everyone you try to trade with will likely value it differently. You come to me with gold or silver wanting to trade for food/medicine, I'll ask you to come back later with something of value. That being said, I can see precious metals being used to transport wealth if you have to relocate a long distance, but you are gambling that there is someone at your destination who values it reasonably close to all the stuff you traded it for from where you departed.

Love the theme and quality of this video, so thanks for that. I do have a couple of minor quibbles, though, that are not meant to criticize but to inform: 1) the $1 coin you picked up while talking about "Morgan dollars" was not a Morgan dollar but was a Peace dollar, which was minted after WW-I ended; and 2) the "Mercury" dime was actually called "Winged Liberty" by the US Mint. I know that the term "Mercury dime" is commonly used to describe these 10 cent coins and everyone knows what is meant when this is said. Still, some might not know the genuine name for these coins and it is good to know such things when getting into silver collecting. Like you, I see the need to own some tangible assets and really like owning silver and now some gold. Both metals have their uses and can serve different purposes. For me, prepping is all about having as many options as possible for handling the problems that can come up in hard times. Because of this, I also stack food, water, and a lot of other things that would be of use during hard times. Hard times will come and there is no doubt of that because they always seem to come at some point. We can't know when they will come, only that they will and have throughout human history. It is better to be prepared than not and that's my bottom line on prepping. Cash is good too. I realize that it can disappear due to high inflation or government edict but at the same time, cash is the answer to many problems during hard times, especially at the beginning. I would much rather spend cash for my daily needs than silver. I'd rather save the silver until only it is accepted in trade. That time very well could come at some point, thanks in large part to the tremendous abuse that the US Gov has heaped upon our currency. Massive borrowing, spending, and printing only have ONE possible conclusion and that is the destruction of the value of the currency. National leaders have tried this for a very long time now and it has never worked in any but the very shortest of terms. Even the ancient Romans fell prey to this via adding lead and zinc to their silver coins and copper to their gold coins. This was quickly spotted by shrewd merchants who promptly devalued what these "new" coins could buy. Today, trillions of extra dollars are printed above what is needed for the efficient exchange of goods and services. The markets have only one way to handle all these extra dollars and that is to devalue them via rising prices. We are seeing the initial wave of that effect, especially in food and energy prices, which the US Gov very conveniently excludes from the CPI. If they did, inflation would always be a lot higher than the amount they are willing to admit is happening. They know that if this were common knowledge, it would make them and their policies look as bad as they really are and not as good as they would like us to believe. They have hidden the amount of inflation and unemployment in the US for a long time now but that time seems to be ending. When, not if, it does, there will be a lot of very angry people out there who have finally found the truth of their situation.

@@annking1576 Probably so, Ann, but we do not know when that will happen. My guess (and it is only a guess) is that this could occur sometime in 2023. Even then, cash is likely to be good for a while even when FedCoin, or whatever they call the new digi-currency, becomes available. The US Gov will allow cash to be used until the bugs have been worked out of the new all-digital system. Once that happens, then there probably will be a date set by which all outstanding cash will be redeemable in FedCoin. After that, the US Gov may or may not redeem cash, at their option. This is in line with previous changes in the US currency. Not that they *have* to follow the historical norm but that's the most reasonable thing to do to minimize the problems that are sure to occur. I am sure that the US Gov and Fed would like this changeover to be as smooth as possible, so as to not stampede the sheeple.

Precious metal was always a good hedge. If you assume we will always have an infrastructure then metal has value. However IMO things have changed or at the very least we are approaching territory we have never seen before. Many items we take for granted are becoming hard to find. Bottom line: If food or other necessary life sustaining commodities were scarce or unobtainable, would you trade a wheel barrel full of your food and preps for a wheel barrel of silver eagles? If you did, what do you do next? Find someone who wants it and is willing to give up their food and supplies? The real value will be the amount of preps in general you have on hand when everything shuts down. Money, gold and silver will be useless and therefore worthless. A simple $20 Sawyer Mini water filter will have great value if you can find one because we all need clean water no matter how much metal and cash we have. So IMO use you cash and metal to buy what you need now. Enough is never enough.

Great video !!! Thank you. I intend to begin purchasing in just a few weeks. How does the average person store such things ? Bank safe deposit boxes might not be safe. I read that some bank employees steal valuables from safe deposit boxes.

Here's an idea for the gold and silver hoarders. When it comes time you can't buy food and other preps you can always melt down your precious metal and make bullets! They will probably be useful.

People keep saying metal is worthless during SHTG clearly don’t understand what it is. Silver and gold is MONEY during a financial collapse EVERYONE needs money because the currency has died. It is a proof of past labor and energy. The ULTIMATE form of wealth. You can only store so much food because it goes bad.

I agree with you. Unfortunately I just started but I’m doing what I can.

Precious metal is fine to get into. Let’s be honest though ammo may be where it’s at. In a SHTF world I wouldn’t trade my ammo for any silver

Buy your precious metals at local coin shows or local coin/bullion stores. Buying on-line leaves an electronic trail that the government or hackers can follow right to your address. Pay with cash and conceal your purchases in a backpack, purse, briefcase, or messenger pouch, before leaving the coin show. Ops Sec is very important. Securely store all items because if they are stolen, your insurance company my not reimburse you for the cost.

Precious metals are not an investment but rather a hedge against inflation to protect your wealth. A silver quarter back in 1964 could buy you a loaf of bread. The same 1964 silver quarter has value (right now about $4.07/silver quarter) to still buy a loaf of bread at todays prices.

When covid first hit, most fast food places would not take cash, wanted exact change only, or more so credit cards. Did not want to handle dirty money...

Viruses can't live on coins. It was because there was a shortage of coins.

Look back to Weimar Germany when people were dumping cash, the people who had precious metals became wealthy.

Thank you. Nobody ever brings this up. Silver saved a lot of lives during that time of hyperinflation.

While we all should hold some Au/Ag, it will be an ugly day indeed if we need to use it for trading. Let's hope we never have to use it and we simply pass it along to our next generations; but first make sure that generation knows the importance of Au/Ag in a SHTF scenario.

@Adam in Alaska That is one perspective. I'll continue to use fiat until it is no longer acceptable or worth much. Holding physical metals for now and continue to stack. It is not the right time to use it yet for me.

@@kiltedsasquatch3693 Silver and gold are only useful if an economy still exists (IE, some sort of fiat is still in circulation). You liquidate some of the metal to buy fiat in which to buy what you want. Precious metal is not numerous enough to be used as fiat. Even historically it was cut with other metals or lower cost like copper was used because the value of silver and gold is too high for daily transactions and cannot be tested for purity easily. In reality, when fiat is unusable, precious metals will simultaneously become worthless as people will just be killing for what they want. There is a lot of survival myths like this. For example the belief that you should buy common calibers because you can resupply, when in reality common calibers will be the first to be used up, or the idea that you should stockpile your enemy's weapons when in reality if you can grab any supplies like their ammunition, you likely can also get their weapon at the same time and vice versa. Other myths are the idea that an emergency situation meansa you can do anything you want when in reality even in disasters, there will still always be some sort of government authority over watching which is why overt stuff like camo uniforms, rifles, and plate carriers don't have nearly as much value as concealment systems.

Love the Scottsdale Mint and their precious metal offerings. I see some people whining in the comments that you can't eat metals, well it's just as important to have food, ammunition, and fruit/vegetable seeds stockpiled too. In a SHTF situation anything of life-saving importance can be used for bartering, and silver/gold are very important for bartering too.

If you have to move fast, carrying 50lbs of silver is a pain. But it has it's place in SHTF situation.

It's funny how many people on here are wearing blinders and see everything as all or nothing. The most valuable thing in SHTF is land, followed by the ability to defend yourself. People think their going to bug out if things get bad. Bug out and go where? Anywhere you could go and survive is already inhabited and they don't want strangers coming in and putting a strain on THEIR RESORCES. Land, weapons, ammo, tools, food, precious metals, medicines and education are all of equal importance.

Hmm the short answer would be by word of mouth. Everytime a lot of people would gather and do some barter, they would discuss the current ratios between precious metals/SilverDimes & Food/other Commodities.. after some while everyone who deals with people will have SOME understanding of precious metals..

I believe that the price of PM's will be the last price given to the people just before the collapse, so say just before the collapse the price of silver is $800 per ounce and gold is $40,000 per ounce, thats a gold to silver ratio of 40:1 then that will be the pegged value of gold and silver until there's a price change somewhere down the line. People during shtf will soon learn the value of silver, gold and even copper, remember the saying "Gold is the money of kings, silver is the money of gentlemen, barter is the money of peasants", copper will be part of that barter. imo, when it take 10x the amount of paper currency people will find other means to buy goods and services, if you have some silver or even gold you can make it out to the other side of this coming financial collapse with a full belly and a home over your head, Keep this in mind also "How will you pay your property taxes? or your rent? People think shft will look like a MadMax thunderdome scenario where there will be no government and people will be fighting with swords and dagger tied to man made guns, yeah that my be true in a post apocalyptic nuclear world like in the game fallout where bottle caps were used as money, but the way I see it and many others this collapse will look like the 1929 depression 10x, why cause theres 10x the people, 10x the greed in the banking world. There will still be government, and stores just they wont be using paper currency any more. Stay safe out there and and keep you wealth with precious metal. take care

A lot of people like gold as a store of value but it is somewhat useless as a medium of exchange because of the high price. In a situation where alternate forms of currency are required, what are you going to exchange the gold for? I like silver and copper because of the ability to have smaller denominations.

I am not prepared. We used to camp with our children for 2-3 weeks. I prepped as though we were going camping. In the mountains we could fish.

It depends what you have. If you have enough food, water, tools, ammo ect....precious metal would be the next best choice. Silver and gold will be universal. You want useless paper? That's what we have now. Something that is printed in unlimited quantity isn't rare.

Precious metals do not protect wealth in the long run. In bartering times, food etc is not better than PM, and PM is not better than food. You will need to diversify by having them both.

What about collecting silver dishes or gold necklaces is that good too?

You have to consider if what you are collecting is something others will want. Don’t know if many are looking for silver plates. And I wouldn’t wear jewelry or necklaces in SHTF situation. Everything has to have a user value. Although silver is still silver and gold is still gold

Those still have a certain melt value, but the price over melt value (aka premium) is usually higher than bullion rounds or bars. So, if you already have them, good. If you are looking to buy for metal value, it's inefficient.

A good formula is about 60% Ag, 25% Au, 15% cash in 5, 20, 100 denominations.

I guess this depends on what situation your considering is happening. Venezuela finical collapse yes PMs would hold value. Puerto rico after maria(year long power outage) PMs held very little value. Good information though

If we never get to a full SHTF (which is the most likely scenario) you will be glad you stacked metals. Best savings account ever. Fiat in your bank account is so easily spent…once u convert that fiat to metals, you can liquidate it very easily but u wont want too. Trust me, u will save 10X what u would have saved in cash and in less time too.

I went to Chili in 1971. The Escudo was worth .50 C per buck. When I left 2 years later it was worth 1 penny....

Played with my Scottsdale silver nugget while I watched this. That been said I wouldn’t stack Scottsdale silver if you’re wanting to get into silver stacking. Scottsdale puts a high premium on their products. Get the cheapest silver you can get like generic silver rounds and bars. The reason I have a Scottsdale nugget is because I think it looks cool and old western. But the rest of my silver is generic silver and silver eagles.

I collect coins not just silver but just started to buy silver more as an investment. But also like to have physical silver coins. Just one gold coin.

If it's just a year or two it's one thing. But if country fall for years or decades then only few will survive if they can adapt and form a small community or group and I believe we will see the day a handshake will be trusted and a man's reputation will be recognized.and your word will get u credit

I prefer brass and lead. Then gold and platinum. Ag is the last i would reccomend imo and that is financial advice!
