The Air Force sent me to North Dakota and I really got to like the place. You get used to the cold. For my sins (well, OK, because I got married) I moved from North Dakota to California. The day I escaped that paradise was one of the happiest days of my life. Given a choice between ND and California, I'd choose ND every time.

I have been retired for 3+ decades. Have no idea if them still do it, they used to get bonuses for people to volunteer to go to Why Not Minot.

@@doctor78212 Yep. I was at Minot. And I volunteered to go there. I was on a missile crew and at the time they were promoting 2Lts to Crew Commander. But I didn't get a bonus.

@carljacobs1260 It's fascinating to hear about your experiences, especially coming from someone who has lived in both North Dakota and California! It sounds like North Dakota left quite an impression on you, despite its reputation for cold weather. Everyone's preferences and priorities are different, and it's clear that North Dakota held a special place in your heart. Thanks for sharing your perspective-it adds depth to the conversation about different states and what makes them appealing to different people!

@laural5177 Indeed, 'Mississippi Burning' sheds light on a dark chapter in American history, highlighting the importance of confronting and addressing issues of racial injustice. While the film focuses on a specific event, it serves as a reminder of the systemic challenges faced by many communities. It's essential to continue conversations about equality and justice to create a more inclusive society. Thank you for bringing attention to this important film!

I would have thought Alabama would have made this list.

Hey there @dwill123! That's an interesting point! Alabama does have its own unique qualities, and while it didn't make this particular list, it's definitely worth exploring why certain states may or may not be as popular as others. What do you think are some of the reasons why Alabama should have made the cut here? Let's keep the conversation going! 🤔

No Idaho? To me it sound like a list of the states with the most Republican government. These states should be their utopia.

@rogerwilco2 It's interesting to hear your thoughts! While Idaho certainly has its own unique appeal, this list focuses on states with specific patterns of migration and demographic trends. Political factors can indeed play a role in people's choices, but there are often multiple factors at play when it comes to why people choose to live-or avoid-certain states. Thanks for adding to the discussion!
