I wanted to leave this comment because I think a lot of people have misjudged my intent for this video. I have lived here for thirty years and I love it, why else would I make my channel all about living in Florida and calling it paradise. There was an article out when I made this video and it was talking about people who are leaving Florida and even to this date January 2023 people are still leaving Florida because it's gotten so expensive and for all the other reasons in this video, Florida is not for everybody just like living in Buffalo isn't for everybody. So the reasons mentioned in the video came from an article and there are multiple articles that mention the same reasons why people leave Florida. I have no intention of leaving Florida, I don't hate Florida, my kids are in Florida and I intend to stay in Florida. Thanks for watching.

I think you may have misjudged the audience for a video titled "Why people are leaving Florida". By definition this title would attract people that were already thinking about leaving, or thinking about moving but had some concerns, etc. I am sure there are also people that appreciate having this list so they can consider if these are issues that they can live with or would prevent them from being happy in Florida. But these aren't new concerns, and you didn't change people's minds.

My intention wasn't to change people's minds about moving here, I'm a Realtor and I make a good living off this channel by helping people move to Florida. It's more for entertainment and as I stated the article I read was talking about people leaving Florida for these top reasons. For instance, a lot of viewers have said politics is the main reason, I can tell you after being a realtor for 10 years I've never had a single client move because of politics, I've had them leave because of the cost of living, they miss their family and liked it better where they came from but not one has ever left because we had a Democrat or Republican governor, or they never told me that. But I appreciate your polite comment and thanks for watching.

I was in Biloxi when Katrina hit, I was used to the different climates, but Katrina did a number on me. Earthquakes are nothing next to that, I want to move back, but the hurricanes hmmmm

No more .Rent is astronomical. I had alot of skin cancer removed..I live on Long Island, NY now where I grew up. I even like the winters and the snow.

You are right on. Besides it’s a lot easier to keep yourself warm with clothing/heat during winter months in northern states than trying to keep cool here in Florida. Unhealthy humid hot air made it impossible for me to exist for 6 months outdoors in Orlando area. I have always enjoyed being outside- gardening, exercising, hiking, walking my dog . AC running inefficiently probably due to poor construction of the house so can’t hide inside either…just trying to barely survive here for 6 months June- November. My dog basically refuses to walk Even in a middle of the night it was 78 and 90 +++ humidity during summer . Now we discovered mold issues in our $8000 / month rental Decent house on the outside but terribly built on the inside. Most homes we looked it are small, cheaply built and super expensive Literally half the size our house in Virginia and neighbors breathing down our necks Renting for now and building new home for us… Not sure if that’s the right decision Hopefully we can relocate soon and sell our new house for profit . I would give anything to go back in time and beautiful Virginia. Houses and condos are everywhere on top of each other . HOA’s are a nightmare and walkable neighborhoods are a rarity and super expensive! Traffic is comparable to LA where we lived for 14 years

I've lived in Florida for almost 10 years now and I so cannot wait to leave. My first gripe, jobs. There are NO JOBS in Florida. I have been unemployed since October 2019. I got unemployment and food stamps for 3 months, then I was on my own. Living in shelters or tents in parks and wooded areas, not good at all. Second, Medicaid. I am grateful for it but no dental. Talk about leaving you to suffer and possibly die. Third, public transportation. Polk Country has the bare minimum. I've lost a lot of weight walking far distances. Fourth, Governor Ron DeSantis. He's making everything harder and worse yet these people love their governor. And lastly, no place to live that's affordable. Homes, condos, apartments. The mortgages and rents are astronomical. Florida is the worst state I have ever lived in. When I leave here, I'm going to be staying with my friend in NH until I can move into a place in Maine. Maine is the only state that has affordable housing and decent paying jobs. So, goodbye Florida.

I think it’s the heat, along with traffic, it just gets to people. Keep in mind,…. people who leave their roots because they can no longer afford to live in the more expensive areas. Which now because of all the influx of people to the state of Florida has caused Florida to become also too expensive too.

I hear this a lot. It’s still a semi-free country. People can still move where they want. Floridians make a ton of money off of the visitors and the new people. I find it humorous that people who moved here, or their parents, are upset that people are moving here. And they always call them New Yorkers. I rarely see a NY tag. Some are leaving, they always cite the heat. It’s really not too expensive other than the housing. People who complain should already have settled in long ago. Will they complain about making $$ when they sell?

I grew up in south Florida and left in the early 2000’s. Each time I return to visit family I am blown away by cost to rent or buy a home. Back in the day late 90s, you could rent a nice place for 700 or a room-mating around 400, efficiencies were cheap but that’s long gone. I don’t see myself ever moving back because it is not affordable.

I and my family moved to South Florida from a suburb in the Midwest. Only my husband likes the intense heat and humidity. The rest of us don’t like it. We came from a neighborhood where the people waved and were so friendly. We shared wine and had get togethers with the neighbors. Parks were close and you could walk to them. Church was a slow ten minute walk. Every church had a carnival in the summer and the kids loved it. The children could walk to their friends’ homes. None of that is here.

@@PalmBeachesPaul as with everything, each person has a different experience. For me, I hated the parking lot traffic on 95 everyday; it also took 30-40 minutes to go to Trader Joe’s on US 1 when it should only take 10 minutes. People were rude, it was stifling hot all the time, property taxes are insane. Public parking, especially on the beaches was impossible to find, not to mention super expensive. We were lucky to have a condo on the beach with beach access, but the ridiculous traffic on A1A made it not even worth it. Not to mention home prices. We sold my moms house in Imperial Point for $500K in 2019, and it is now going for about $1M. For a normal middle class person, it is not affordable to live there any longer if you want to live East and in a decent neighborhood. So, yes, to be there for a while enjoy the beach from a nice hotel, and bake the sauna temps, sure. Long term living, not feasible.

I can agree that you haven't truly experienced Florida until you've spent an entire day outside in full sun on a 94 degree day in June. I did just that a couple years ago when I visited Hallandale Beach to see if I could stomach the summers if I decided to move later in life. Needless to say, it's hot and its humid and the sun can be unbearable. I'm an avid runner, but I had to do my runs first thing in the morning before the full sun came out. Otherwise, it can sap your energy rather quickly. I don't mind the heat and I am highly adaptable, but I imagine other people underestimate the intensity of a South Florida summer.

For me as an ex Floridian, it was the #1 reason you mentioned: the weather. Being born and raised in Jax but living in Orlando with family all over FL, I gotta say that was my determining factor. So I moved to WA 10 years ago and fell in love with Seattle and the Puget Sound and mountains. No natural disasters, 4 moderate seasons, hiking galore and a political scene that I favor. I don't miss mosquitoes, lizards, flying cockroaches, pythons, gators, etc. Hurricanes, Tornadoes, Severe Thunderstorms, lack of seasons, not knowing what a raincoat was, or what does "leaves changing colors" mean, lack of light rail/subway or even a decent bus system and I was never a beach or theme park person. Eventually it comes to different strokes to different folks. I do miss my Caribbean food and visiting family every now and then. But that's about it. 😂

I moved to West Palm from central PA. Jobs were plentiful, but I still couldn't afford it. Traveling mostly revolves around I95! And I guess that's ok, however when you look ahead and see nothing but brake lights for miles, that sinking feeling sets in, you know it's to be a while before you get where you were going. It's either a dead stop or 90 mph. Vacationland looks great, but several blocks from the beach the are segregated hoods, people of color fighting with other people of color. In PA you can wonder the mountains for hours in natural silence and not see another person. Not so in Florida. I lasted about a year there. Too many people trying to take advantage of what they think is a good thing. I'll put up with winter so I can enjoy fewer people, and enjoy Florida for the occasional vacation.

I live in Florida and what has made Florida overrated is all of the ignorant people moving here. For instance, the home prices have increased due to an influx of people who have never been homeowners buying over priced homes for 400k when in actuality the homes are only worth 175k. The rental market is a scam in Florida as far as the prices you have to pay to move in and utilities are a scam. I was charged $100 a month for water plus $120 for water transfer fee making my bill $220 a month plus tax. The reason for the $120 extra charge was to pay for the water pipes that deliver the water from the neighboring city-UNBELIEVABLE. THERE IS ALOT OF CORPORATE STEALING HERE AMONGST BUSINESSES THAT OVERCHARGE CONSUMERS WRONGFULLY. THE STATE IS NOT WORTH THE PRICE THAT COMES WITH IT. NOT TO MENTION, ALL OF YOUR BILLS ARE DUE NOW, THERE IS NOT REALLY A GRACE PERIOD WHEN THEY SEND YOU THESE FAKE OUTRAGES BILLS THAT ARE DUE.

I've lived here thirty years and I've honestly probably only seen four snakes in my life and they were usually in the backyard and they were small now we do get rattlesnakes in coral snakes but I've never seen one these were just garden snakes, mosquitoes are given we live in a swamp you're going to have to deal with them but you can even get pest control people to spray that will eliminate a lot of them from bugging you and as far as alligators I've never seen one in my backyard and I've lived on the lake for 4 years but you have to consider any freshwater they could be living in it and you never walked your dog near the edge of a lake

@@PalmBeachesPaul And I was pissed when my homeowners here in Michigan went up 75 dollars for the second year in a row now to 680, when I see the numbers in Florida I guess I feel lucky, lol! Do you think it will keep increasing at that rate or plateau soon? I almost moved to FLA in the mid 80's, had quit the music business and was looking to start a new life. Went down to stay with a buddy who had transplanted from Michigan to St. Pete. It was nice but I ended up coming back to Mich, got into the electrical trade and never looked back, and now a retired Master Electrician with everything paid for. Like you I've lived in Florida nearly 30 years And there is truly just so much that I love about living here. I've always said it's like three states and one, and I've been everywhere in the state. I had young children and not much money and not much time so we always vacationed inside Florida and we have had an awesome time. That said, age and health issues have sent us into downsizing And we're not about to do those trailer parks. So much has changed in Florida in the last 5 years and now we see so many people are moving here. Where we live, the growth is ridiculous. Every square inch of bare earth is being developed, and the resources are being absolutely tapped. The beaches in Sarasota and Bradenton are regularly off-limits because of bacteria in the Gulf, we are seeing many more incursions with wildlife and between January and May it's getting almost impossible to be able to just do simple errands on any given day. They are turning interstate 75 into 10 lanes and it will only be adequate for a very short time. And yes, climate change is real and everyone I have spoken to who has been here a long time agrees that it is hotter today than it was 20 years ago this day. I will miss a lot, but I'm leaving.

I have lived all over the United States: New Hampshire, Colorado, Arizona, and Florida. I, personally, don’t feel I belong in Florida only because I love hiking mountains. I have met people who love Florida and also hate it. It really depends on your politics, activity level, if you are retired vs working. If you’re working you’ll need to commute in traffic. Snowbirds love winters but living in Florida in summer made me feel like I was melting. It boils down to your personal preference. If someone likes steak, but I like fish does it make either one of us wrong. Go experiment and try new locations. Nothing is permanent in life. My only suggestion is to rent for a year before buying property.

Reason 5 needs to be revised. You should say South Florida in the burbs you need to walk. If you live in the largest city in South Florida (Miami)...you can make it without a car. Fl's only rapid transit exists in the heart of the 305 and makes it accessible to not have a car and it's called Metrorail. Metrorail serves the urban core of Miami, connecting Miami International Airport, the Health District, Downtown Miami, and Brickell with the northern developed neighborhoods of Hialeah and Medley to the northwest, and to suburban The Roads, Coconut Grove, Coral Gables, and South Miami, ending at urban Dadeland in Kendall. That's 24 miles of track that serves several communities. Not to mention the Metrorail connects you to that commuter train for Broward & Palm Beach. It's not perfect, but compared to the rest of the state, public transit in the most dense parts of South Florida definitely exists.

I got into an heated argument with a guy at bus stop in Miami last year vacationing, with some right wing local guy... the crazy part was, I'm a right wing guy too! I was not right wing enough for the local. Right Wings guys like me up north, are very diplomatic and we keep our mouth shuts for the most part, so left wing Northerners probably get a culture shock down in florida and move back. Funny thing, after meeting the angry right wing local, I just said at was on my mind and stopped being diplomatic in conversations, and had no more issues with people.

Thanks for watching David. Yes, there are quite a few people leaving due to the rising cost of homes and the insurance headaches that we are all dealing with but there’s still more people moving here on a daily basis.

Florida is a joke. Stay away from Sarasota. Traffis is your worst nightmare.

To each his own. Florida's hot? I live on a barrier island off St. Pete where there's always a breeze, even in the dog days of summer. Stay out of the sun and it's very tolerable. High real estate prices? They go with desirable locations. Tourism? It supports the local economy, and I for one feel jackpot lucky to be living in a place where people from all over the world pay big bucks for the chance to spend a few days where I live year round. Wildlife and bugs? Not a factor. I was bitten by mosquitoes growing up on Long Island a lot; it's simply not a problem here, especially with the constant breezes. Public transportation? C'mon, if you don't have your own car, move to New York City. I can take a bus from where I live to hook up with trains or planes to go anywhere.
