Why People Are Intimidated By You Based on Your Personality Type

Has anyone ever told you they find you intimidating or difficult to approach? Do your friends often remark about how “you’re nothing like they thought you’d be”? Or have you ever wondered what kind of first impression you have on people? Here’s why people might be intimidated by you, according to your MBTI personality type.
We also made a video on what others like about you based on your MBTI personality type: • What People Like About...
DISCLAIMER: The MBTI is a personality inventory designed to roughly identify a person’s personality type, split into 16 categories. As such, it may be prone to not quite hitting the mark for everyone: so take it as a list of rough tendencies rather than strict classifications. This video’s primary intention is for providing entertainment and light-hearted content.

INFJ, and it's very accurate. I've called myself the "cheerleader" because I'm always encouraging and advocating for my artist friends. While at the same time, I'm quiet about myself unless someone specifically talks to me and ask me questions. Which, only a handful of people have ever breached that "boundary" of silence, a boundary that doesn't actually exist. My reserved nature intimidates ALOT of people... Of course I like to tell about how I'm doing or what I'm doing. Get me talking and I can talk up a storm. At the same time, don't ask or I won't tell. Not that I'm withholding purposefully or that I'm lonely in any way, I just don't see the need to say anything.

INFP here, and I cannot confirm the part about being disappointed of people not reaching idealized standards. I prefer to keep it real, and if a person blunders, there's no need to get upset as long as the problem is fixed in a manner that satisfies everyone. Or to quote Confucius: If you make a mistake and don't correct it, that's called a mistake. What I have noticed to be more off-putting about INFPs is that people perceive us to be quiet and reserved, but once they delve into a topic that we are enthusiastic about, there's no holding back for us. That seems to catch them off-guard, and our intensity can also be startling.

I'm INFP, basing this on myself and the other INFP in my life; (my father, and my best friend.) When it comes to people not living up to our 'idealized' standard...I'd personally phrase it as 'idealized compatibility' that we aim for. We are very good at pressing FF in our minds and seeing where a relationship with someone is most likely to go...and if too many of those paths lead somewhere dark, heavy, or uncomfortable, *then* we will usually walk away or at least not be as open. We can get a sense of how 1 sided things would end up being, either from us or from the other persons, and often choose not to open those doors if we don't need to. INFP are extremely empathic, so when there is distress or drama it's affects use hugely. As a defense, we mitigate such experiences when we can, often at the very start of a relationship that's giving too many red--or even yellow--flags.

I mostly research Greek/Norse deities (as well as piece together their complicated family trees), viking runes and runestones, the stories of each zodiac sign, all crystals and crystal variations, the history of cultural religions around the world ⇢ That's barely even scratching the surface. Most people don't know about the research I've done, but once I show them, I think they'll faint. This is actually so true! Like I’m an ENFJ and a lot of people are intimidated by me and sometimes get annoyed by me because I speak only what I think, and I don’t lie about how I feel. Rather than agree with people opinions just for the sake of not making them feel sad even when I don’t agree with them, I tends to speak my own opinions but in a nice way. But people think that I’m too honest and say exactly what I think too much. I’m not trying to be mean tho, I just don’t like lying about my own opinion. I care a lot for people so I always give people advice and I’m not afraid to share my view but people takes it the wrong way. And I’m so chill and doesn’t really care about what people say and think about me, and don’t try to fit in so people think that I’m a attention-seeker. But I’m not, I just don’t want to pretend to be someone, and dress like someone I’m not. People think that I’m scary and fake because I cares about people so much and how confident I am, but I hope they don’t because it’s all genuine and not fake like they think it is. 😭❤️❤️❤️

If your goal was to truly help people out to find their MTBI score, ou missed by a Mile. Being an Infj is my trait, and Yes, people are put off by me until they get to know me or learn more about me through people who do know me and can help them understand. This video wasn’t meant to be an actual MBTI test, or help you find out what your personality type is. It assumes you already know your personality type and the whole point of the video is to explain why someone might find you intimidating (based on what your personality type is). You’re right though, most of these things can apply to multiple personality types. But that’s kind of just how mbti is, it’s based on the same 4 traits after all. Personality is a lot more complex then we can fully comprehend, so we simplify it.

INFP here, most of what was said related to us was, at least in my case, truth but with subtle changes. People tend to think that because I am a certain way I want to change them and make them like me which is completely false cause if I love someone is due to how they are (I don´t negate that there is times I imagine or idealize aspects of people but I improved for better with the pass of years and learnt to stop for me to be able to analyze before jumping to conclusions) and I only act harsh when my form of experiecing aspects of life is questioned out of the blue, this lead people to also think that they have to act a certain way to make me happy, something it usually doesn´t take much time for me to discover and I find myself at the end upset but not because they are the opposite of me or different in any way but due to the fact that they thought it was okay to lie to me or it was needed for them to be appreciated by me. That in fact also caused me problems related to thinking if that image of a tyrant was the one I was projecting or if even they were right and I were that kind of person.

I just can't tolerate those ideas even though I am most of the time all for people just doing what they like. But it seems only within my ideas of morality. Sometimes I also think its because of my BPD which I am being seen regularly for. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I’ve heard it’s very usual for INTPs to do maths and science based stuff as well as computing and engineering. I’m an INTP and I’ve never been interested in anything like that. My interests are in art, music, history, literature and the likes. Although I do like solving problems. But I do find myself heavily researching things like languages and ancient crafts and music history. And although I have more creative tendencies I still notice myself go about them in a more logical way, with focus on the composition of artwork and music in order to create the specific emotions and meanings behind my creations. I find it so interesting how people with completely different interests can still be linked by the way they approach tasks due to their personality.

As a changing INFP/INTP (I literally have 50/50 on Feelings/Thinking) I found here INFP most relatable. Specifically the point about distancing oneself from the idealized version of a person. I remember this happend with a long time friend of mine - when someone showed me them in diffrent light I started to get tired of them. I felt guilty after that so even though I feel like that with another one of my friends, I decided to stick by them. Afterall nothing in this world is ideal. If you're stress, tired, angry and having bad mood or PMS whatever, then don't do that test. Any emotion will affect your test result. When I'm taking MBTI test in peace and calm way, imagine it when I'm making that decision, nobody controlling me, nobody scolding me, be honest to myself, thus I get the answer, and I'm an ISTJ, all ISTJ traits are exactly who I am ~

I always judge ppl and have some sort of a picture created in my head after talking to them once. Thinking stuff like he's like this or tht and I specifically think of their potential (dunno why but I'm obsessed with others' potential) and whenever ppl do something which just doesn't live up to my expectations of theirs, I just feel weird or I feel like sighing in my head. Again tho, this is just my first thought whenever I see ppl. Like after tht thought passes, my values kick in and I get back to what not to do. But again, whenever thinking about some new person in my life, it normally goes like this Mr. A(Good guy) -> Not living up to his potential... what a pity...(sighs) -> Realizes my mistake -> know tht I can't just go and judge ppl like tht

I'm short and have a pure and innocent-looking face so people can't usually be intimidated by me and won't let me be in charge of something because I don't look trustable (I know it's ridiculous). The only intimidating trait I have is the well-known Ni stare. It's just a goal for me to be a little bit intimidating (not unapproachable) if I'm being honest.
