    “Even though she didn’t live to see the formation of the alliance, Padme Amidala was the mother of the rebellion”. That might be the most honest truth of Padme. She was the mother of the rebellion, of freedom. Who was willing to die for her beliefs and for peace. In the end, not only was she the burning light for peace and hope; she was also the mother of those who brought back freedom and peace, Luke and Leia.

    It’s ironic, the greatest threat to Palpitine wasn’t a Jedi or a Force User of any kind it was just an ordinary woman that believed that there could be a better way and dreamed of peace and a better day for all. And even death wasn’t enough to stop her ideals, because those that knew her or had loved and respected her vowed to carry on the fight in her name, the people of Naboo and even her own former handmaidens would join the rebellion in her name. The Naboo sect of Rebels would even name themselves after her, they became the Amidalans, a further spite to Palpitine.

    I said once that Padmé is the embodiment of what a politician should be, and that in the Clone Wars, her character arc was pretty obviously leading towards her own ascendency towards the Chancellery, tragically stopped by Palpatine's machinations. Padme's visage remained burned in the memory of Darth Vader as well. As much as he tried to bury Anakin Skywalker, his love for his wife is was brought him back from the brink and eventually turned him away from the Dark Side to save the only part of her he had left: his son - Luke.

  • @karanhdream
    @karanhdream2 жыл бұрын

    Sidious feared Padmé and ultimately feared her son for the same reason. Luke may have looked like his father, was as powerful in the force and had many of his talents, but in heart and without ever knowing her, he was his mother's son first and foremost. After watching the prequel and seeing again the end of ROTJ, I like to think the reason why Sidious looked so irked by Luke and why he wanted to kill him in such a painful and sadistic way was because upon looking into Luke's eyes he saw Padmé. He saw all that he could not destroy, the undying light and the determination of one who had the will to stand and fight despite fear. Padmé and Luke were not fearless, they were brave. They were not detached and cold like the Jedi council, they were compassionate, forgiving and inspiring for others. They were all that Sidious could never understand, and therefor, are all that he ever feared.

  • @jmwilliamsart

    @jmwilliamsart

    I agree with you wholeheartedly, Luke is more like his mom Padme, he inherited her determination, and compassion. Even after her untimely passing her spirit lives on in the Rebellion and more importantly in her twin children Luke and Leia. I personally believe that Padme’s spirit called out to Anakin in that moment before he turned against Palpatine (ROTJ). I also believe that there was a possibility that she might have turned Anakin away from the dark side (ROTS) had it not been for Obi Wan coming into the picture. She was right about Anakin, he wasn’t truly gone.

    Padme was definitely someone to be feared if you were planning to create the Empire like Palpatine did. At 14 she was Queen and with a single speech convinced the Senate to elect a whole new chancellor. She, a mere Queen of a single planet stood up against the Trade Federation, which was so powerful and rich that it was represented in the Senate. If you ask me, the Rebellion would have had a lot more support if Padme had survived in Revenge of the Sith. Palpatine dodged a bullet there. Despite that, she had a whole group of people calling themselves the Amidalans, dedicated to avenging her death. That's how loved and popular she was, and that shows how much of a loss she was to the galaxy. Despite all of this she is still very much underrated which sucks lol. Also, isn't she statistically the best shot in Star Wars? (meaning she had great aim)

    Ironically that this is the same woman that Palpatine used to gain his supreme power within the Republic, if anything he really owned his political success to Padme ever seeking justice for those within the Republic. Padme image as a kind, open minded, and determined leader made her fit to lead the Republic as the natural replacement for Palpatine after the destructive Clone Wars, and Palpatine knew that and he had to find a way to get rid off her without damaging his own image, which again made it ironical that he gave her too much power with eagerness to continue the war and militarization of the Republic’s.

    Like Han Solo, Padme is an example of a non-Force user whose impact is felt throughout history. She's a queen and then a Senator instead of just a smuggler that was inspired to be a better man, but her character is similar in its purpose. She's not an "ordinary person" as people generally think of them, but in Star Wars terms, and especially in the situations of the OT vs. the Prequel Trilogy she and Han are very much alike.

How many other non-Jedi were in the thick of the battle of Geonosis and survived? How many non-Jedi have survived multiple Sith assassins, bounty hunters, and battle droids trying to kill them? Even if you only look at the prequels Padme was one of the most badass characters, she certainly outlived Qui Gon.

    Padme definitely wasn't a pacifist by definition considering how willing she is to fight when needed, but needing to fight at such a young age was probably what gave her a distaste for it and made her so vigilant against allowing it to reign with fear, regardless of her failure to do enough against Palpatine before the Empire.

    I would argue that your definition of pacifist is somewhat flawed. A pacifist should never go looking for conflict, but shouldn't be afraid to engage if it proves to be the only way. I would also argue that this is where most democracies fail with regards to external political conflict. They become so afraid of war in any form, that they end up refusing to engage it in, even when it is clearly the best course of action.

    @@PhailRaptor Pacifism is, as I understand it in it's purest and initial forms around the world wars, a refusal to participate in military action, mostly synonymous with nonresistence. I agree with everything else you said though. Was recently going through the Thomas Sowell book _Intellectuals and Society_ which covers pacifists goals in the early 20th century to demilitarise and denuclearise with little consideration for the consequences. French intellectuals/pacifists convincing their populous that WW1 and war in general was horrific and pointless was a strong contributing factor in Hitler deciding to invade France, and swiftly succeeding due to low French morale, and in spite of France having a statistically stronger military.

I’m sure he probably had some sort of backup plan there, but wouldn’t their legacies be tied together, at least politically? You’d think everyone would remember her for recalling the previous Chancellor to install her own representative as the Executive of the galactic government. It only gets worse when you realize she appointed Jar Jar to stand in for her and he spearheaded the vote to give emergency powers to Palpatine. Certainly, in our world, I feel like the people would have stopped listening to her because of all the major moments she’s influenced single handedly. But, if you examine her closer she has quite the impact in the story and a lot of influence which is more subtle, because both the movies and the series don't focus mainly on the politics. That said, i do understand if people find her annoying and superflous, but on the other hand if you want to look, she is a part why politics and the depth of the story and the universe is so great in the often laughed at Prequels.

At last I heard a valid, coherent reason why Palpatine being such an absolute strategic genius all of a sudden lost to a bunch of half-organised rebels. In fact he lost because of a slight crack in his plan which he failed to recognise twice. The crack which was discretely growing from the moment he became Chancellor, which ultimately became a stress point and his entire Empire finally shattered from there when its time came. It actually makes so much more sense now.

A Queen who fought for her people, A senator who stood up to the Emperor, the sole woman Anakin ever loved and who could have brought Vader to his knees, and the Mother of Luke and Leia. Yet the prequels rarely gave her the time to shine, to have a story of her own, and was delegated to being Anakin’s doormat. Please keep in mind I’m talking about the prequels as stand alone entries, so no Clone Wars cartoon or expended universe comics & novels. Of course when you take that stuff into account, she’s much better. But Natalie Portman didn’t get to enjoy that redemption and was stuck playing the worst version of Padme.

    This is the kind of character analysis that justifies the inclusion of "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" as a film. Every one of the regular, civilian rebels on each neighbouring planet within the story gets their chance to shine on screen as the soldiers of the right side, the light side to help crush Sidious's Republic and destroy the Death Star, however doomed they all are in the end, showing how much of an impression Padme Amidala left on them and how they're all more than willing to risk their lives while fighting on to keep both her memory and her overall benevolent ideal of peace alive. I already loved "Rogue One" before watching this video and now I love it even more as it highlights how important it is to see characters like Jyn Erso and Cassian Andor on screen as two respective leaders of the peace among their fellow galactic citizens because outside of "Rogue One", who else truly thinks of them, the general public, within the prequel trilogy other than Padme? She genuinely looks out for the people, for all people and so it is so good to see them continuing to fight for her vision of peace as they themselves also want it within their own story on film since we surely needed at least one film to bridge the gap between "Revenge of the Sith" and "A New Hope" and it's "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" with Padme Amidala, the Mother of the Rebellion written all over it. They are all her people and they deserved their own film and to be seen on screen as the worthy civilians who suffer at Sidious and Vader's hands the most while doing all they can to oppose their enemies in the name of their beloved Queen.

    In the end both palpatine and the jedi knew that romantic love was an enemy to their supreme authority over their followers

    This is a demonstration of why a good and stubborn argument is vital It can get the respect of others and scare those who use blanket statements

    Just imagine the feelings Palpatine must have had when Anakin told him he married Padme. Dude must have blown a gasket.

    Don't be skipping over Leia's importance to the fall of Sidious. Sure Luke was the big flashy hero, but Leia was instrumental to the Rebellion and the reformation of the Republic from the time she was a child until the day she died. She was every bit the diplomat her mother was, but she had so much of Anakin's passion in her. And her own Force sensitivity probably kept her alive and helped her pull success from defeat with 'intuition' plenty of times.

    An alternate title to this video could be "How Padmé Amidala defeated the First Galactic Empire without leaving her coffin"

    It's hard to believe. In our world, politics attracts the corrupt, not the virtuous. Anyone who has a shred of integrity is quickly ostracized and driven out.

    He got Anakin to kill her, wittingly or unwittingly. The dude is cunning and brilliant. She ended up being the keystone that held up Darth Vader's place in the Dark Side.

    From what I just heard Padene was the chosen one sure she may not have had the force but even death couldn't keep her movement and ideals from bringing balance to the Galaxy and by extension the force. Thanks for the video and have a wonderful day!

    She was a bad ass after Ep. II, the Clone Wars also made her into a hero.

    Thank you so much for the nuanced explanation of this very important aspect and geopolitics of the war and the general attitude of Lucas's, filoni's interpretation of true civil duty, democracy, and showing of agrarianism

    For such a shiny beacon of morality and hope, Padmé really got disrespected when she was designed as a Bratz doll for the clone wars 3D series.
