Why OLYMPUS E-M1 MARK II Is My Main Camera In 2023?
I am currently using Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II as my main camera and the OM System OM-1 has become the secondary, back up camera. I explain why in this video.

How can I be your friend who really deserve a camera?
Rob I sense your frustration with Internet criticism. I appreciate your honesty and insights. Many people are looking for validation via reviews. There is a small group that enjoys stirring things up with caustic remarks. The majority of us who follow your channel simply appreciate the heart and integrity of your reviews. Thank you!

@@robinwongI noticed you got a bit frustrated on Facebook with someone asking about the OM1 S-AF issue who was a bit behind the curve. I really enjoy your content on here. Just keep being you. Shame about the OM1 issue - and you were the one who I first heard speak out about it. Do you think you will get another EM1 Mark iii? I missed the chance to get a new EM1 iii because of cost and it's now discontinued. Did get an EM5 Mark iii though, which I like. I work with the OM System OM-1 regularly and extensively in many different areas of photography and the OM-1 is a great camera that I really enjoy, but Robin is absolutely correct in his criticism of the autofocus. I can confirm this from intensive experience. I have firmware 1.5 and the problem is still there. The camera is really super well equipped, it's just a software problem and I hope they fix it. And yes, also I tried all the different settings from the toturials and it didn't solve the problem. I've even tried my own ideas that go beyond that, but without success. However, this only affects the S-AF and C-AF in very poor light and poor contrast. Scene detection works very well!
IGNORE the haters, Robin. To quote Frank Sinatra, "Some people get their kicks, stompin' on a dream." I've been watching your videos off and on for many years now, and you are hands-down the most honest, down to earth, real-deal photography-based content creator on KZread. You should be able to voice whatever opinion you have about the new OM-1. If you don't like the AF, you don't like the AF. It's really that simple. Also, it's very nice of that guy to send you an OM-1, but that doesn't mean you should sing false praises about it, if that's not how you truly feel. The fact that you gifted your MarkIII to someone else to balance out the karma is way more than most people would do, and shows what kind of a person you are. Just keep being yourself, dude. I - and I'm sure many others - am here mostly for you and your great personality and passion for photography, regardless of what brand of camera or lens or whatever you're discussing. Keep rocking, dude!

Thanks for saying that I am not obligated to say nice things about the gift. I always thought honesty is important. Somehow some people got offended here when I was being truthful about the issues I encountered with the OM-1. How is being honest connected to me being ungrateful having received a gift? Thanks for your continued great videos and honesty. I purchased a used E-M1 Mark II just recently. It was a hard choice between it and the 5 mk III. I let the slightly bigger hand grip and battery guide my choice. It is my 1st non-compact digital camera. It instantly felt at home in my hands. I quickly grabbed my old trusted Nikon FG that I used for years and compared them. The body size is almost identical. Exactly what I wanted. Something highly capable but easy to put in a back pack or carry in a bag on my bicycle. Now I'm getting slowly familiar with it. Much appreciated to you and the other M4/3 advocates.

Robin, one of the great and REFRESHING things about your posts is your intense honesty. I am always glad to see you expound like this. It is so energizing. While a shortcoming in the OM-1 would concern me or maybe put me off from it, you put your finding in perspective so that I have a solid basis from which to investigate and consider rather than just run. I have to agree with you about so many content creators jumping around. Sure, they have their valid reasons, but sometimes there are unexpected reversals. You got flak just for talking outside the M43 bounds even while underscoring that everything has strengths, weaknesses, and optimal applications. Here you reiterated your preference for M43 and that doesn't conflict with anything you have said about other systems and formats. That is one of the great things about you and your approach. Thanks for putting so much of yourself into your posts. Looking forward to more...
Fully love your dedication to the M4/3 system, I myself have started my photography in M4/3 and I think ill stay in it for long time. Great video Robin! I sold off my OM-1 and went back to my E-M1 Mark II for my photography. It's honestly still the best feeling in my hands. I recently upgraded to the OM-1 from the E-M1 mk2, and am content with the OM-1’s autofocus performance. Granted, there are times where shots are missed, but I am typically always using C-AF, and find the AF-target picker helps a lot when the camera is not selecting the subject the way I want it to. I find it is pretty easy to identify those moments while shooting, and make the adjustments to get the shot I need. I still love my E-M1 mk2, and after seeing this video, I may try to shoot with it more in those situations where the focus issue requires more effort. I do a lot of live performance photography, and typically use both bodies with the 4/3 Pro 14-35 f2 on one, and the 4/3 Pro 35-100 f2 on the other. Couldn’t be happier. My position relative to the stage determines which body gets which lens. I do look forward to the firmware update we are all hoping for!
Love my em1 mkii! Really does everything I need!
Hey Robin, i fell in love with travel photography and upgraded to a Canon EOS 100D up from a basic point snd shoot. The irony of it all being that becoming a DSLR user meant that i sprnt more time fiddling with lenses and less time appreciating the scenes and endsd up falling out of love with it all. Ive wanted to go back to more fundamental point and shoot and picked up a E-M5 mk ii and pancake lenses. I know there will be some people that bash Micro 4/3 but it really is true that the best camera is the one you actually use! Thank you for your content and reviews as they have been invaluable in confirming what i want out of my photography experiences.

Well said, Robin! I have two old Olympus E-PL1s, and they're still fantastic cameras (I have others but the Olys just deliver). I'm retired now and 90% of my shots are just casual snaps on my iPhone, but there's something about the Olympus rendition of colour that is unequalled. You are to be applauded for producing brilliant photographs, regardless of what you use. It's about the photographer, NOT the camera.
Affirmation . . . you are a good presenter, excellent English! Enthusiasm. As for Olympus, was just shopping for an extra body and the EM1 Mkii is an excellent choice, very similar in features to the ever popular EM5 Miii. I work with Pentax and Olympus . . . for the legacy glass! Good cameras, but to get the good glass is where the newest cameras on the block will empty your bank account. And . . . even at 70-years old . . . I don't hesitate to use a manual focus lens. After all, that's all we used back in the day!
Great video! After my first m43 (EM5 ii) I decided to buy a EM1 ii (bought gently used) to take on an overseas vacation due to the 2 card slots as I felt better having 2 copies of my files. I personally can't see myself buying another camera unless mine breaks. The OM1 ii is flawless in every way.

I came from Canon's latest mirrorless offerings and people told me the E-M1 MII was a "downgrade" and yes on paper in many ways it is. It's old. But I use this camera more. I enjoy shooting more. I stuck the basic 25mm 1.7 on the body and it was weeks before I took it off. With my other gear I just got so in the rut of finding the perfect way to shoot something that I found I didn't enjoy shooting as much. I don't do much professional work nowdays, but I shoot family stuff and I really wanted to just grab it and go. This camera does that. I can take two lenses and cover a huge range for what I want to shoot and it fits in any bag.
There are so many really nice, in fact wonderful cameras in the used market.

Yeah somehow Olympus just nailed it when it comes to handling, the E-M1 Mark II feels so so good in hand!
Hi Robin! Finally I watched this video. I’m sorry I asked about this in the live stream. 😂 I was curious on why the OM1 wasn’t your main camera since it looks great in the specs. I hope OM can fix that issue in the future. BTW the concert pictures are amazing! They show true emotions I can almost hear the music.

Thanks for the kind words! No worries, I am glad you looked around, and you got your detailed answers here. The issue is whenever I said something bad about the OM-1, even if it is the truth, I get backlash, and some people just don't want to hear anything negative about the camera they love. Especially in Live Stream, I got to be even more careful. I don't hate OM-1 but it does have some valid issues which obstructed my work.
Very good photos! EM2 is still a great camera.
I'm still quite happy with my E-M1 (Mark I). If it dies maybe I'll grab a Mark II, but I like the tilt screen so maybe I'd just get another Mark I.

I prefer tilt screen for stills, but I admit, the swivel screen helps me a lot as a one man crew when making KZread videos.
You have always been honest and unbiased. Anyone who doesn't want truth is not someone you need to be concerned about. As for the EM1 mk 2 you are totally correct about it being worthwhile in 2023. Especially considering that the current firmware makes it essentially a different camera than version 1.0. Keep up the great coverage of 4/3, especially lenses which work well with any body. 😊

Thanks for the show of support, really appreciate it!
The OM-1 is in a class by itself for M4/3's cameras, especially for wildlife and birds in flight. Before getting mine I had almost switched totally to my D500 which was vastly superior to my older Olympus cameras. Now I'm hoping Panasonic gives us an G9II with contrast detect, that might challenge my OM-1. I use my Z6 for around town and low light photography, it was so cheap I couldn't resist.
