Why NOT To Buy a Junkyard 6 Speed For Your Next Project Car

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Robert from American Powertrain goes over the differences and reasons why you should just buy a TREMEC Magnum 6 speed instead of wasting your time, effort and money trying to get a junkyard T-56 from a Viper, GTO, 4th Gen F-Body or a TR-6060 from a Camaro or Challenger to work in your project car. #SaveTheStick

Good information to consider. I'm swapping out a 4L60E in my 55' Chevy Task Force (second series) pickup for a six speed manual and plan on the Tremec T-56 Magnum. I'll check out your website. Thanks.

To be honest, by the time you buy a used T56, unless it's low mileage and well taken care of, most people will spend magnum price in the long run. Used transmission $2k no warranty, you get a problem instantly or say a year or two down the road (Most cases rebuilding time another 2k=4 grand total, buy T56 magnum $3200 and drive for years trouble free.

So you wouldn’t recommend buying a rebuilt stage 1 performance built t56? Came out of a 06 Pontiac GTO

That's why I stick with 4 speeds. Used one $300 locally, rebuilt it myself for $350 in total parts including a new 1st and 2nd gears, all forged syncros, bearings, Gaskets etc.

What's the shifter feel like in the magnum vs the BW T56? I've got a t56 in my LS swapped rx7 and I don't like it all all. Compared to my old na miata, the t56 is like rowing through wet cement...

The magnum is a significant improvement over the bw t56. Internally the tr6060 is the production model of the magnum. Only problem is the tailshaft but you can buy a kit to covert it to the magnum tailshaft and shifter from tick performance for like $500. So unless you can get a tr6060 for dirt cheap it's still best to go with the magnum.

that is the biggest reason I would never buy used drive train parts or any non body parts, I would probably get a used up turd that is not worth its weigh in scrap and being that my vehicle is going to be my daily driver I plan on buying once and crying once and putting new parts in that have a Warranty
