Why not to BUY a

Ғылым және технология

So many KZread videos these days telling you to purchase a decade old Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera OG. I think these videos are really shame to pump up the price of their old Blackmagic Cameras for resale. I have never seen a camera hold its value so well. I decided to research the resale and saw it was selling for anywhere between $700-$1400 on multiple sties like eBay, MPB, and Adorama. Would you purchase the same camera in a more updated body that shoots RAW at 3:1 compression, 60fps, and was sold all the up to 2022? That's the camera I would buy, not a 10 year old camera that may malfunction.

Great video! I am a BMPCC-OG user... Do more research about the OG before compare with the Micro...The sensor is not "much the same" and no touchscreen on OG...etc BM Micro is a very small camera but it has no screen at all, so it's not really that "micro".

I have a BMMCC and I love it, it does have some limitations but nothing that can't be solved with a couple of accessories such as a speedbooster and a decent monitor, the super 16 sensor is honestly something else, much better than any full frame cameras today.

To be fair, the reason I've got an OG BMPCC is because I wanted a small compact setup I can literally throw in my pocket, with amazing colour depth to document moments without needing a rig of some sort. You get 2000mah high capacity internal batteries now that let you run the OG for up to an hour continuously and with a 14mm pancake lens it's barely bigger than my phone, with incredible images! The micro has it's place if you're doing rigged out production work, and I had my FX30 and FX3 for that. But comparing taking my FX3 with me on a trip with the BMPCC is like apples and oranges. The BMPCC is much more convenient, even with full manual control because I'm not worried about it as much and it doesn't take up space. Simple, easy, done.

Most of my videos are only speaking from a certain point of view as a filmmaker. I am never one to bash anyone for a camera choice. You choose a camera that works best for you and what you are doing with it? I actually just sold my BMMCC because it no longer works for me in my production. Yes, there are things that suck about the BMMCC like adding a monitor, but again strictly looking at this camera from a filmmaker pov who will add a monitor and make sure everything is in focus. Both are great cameras and both have drawbacks to them. Actually, the BMMCC was my wife's favorite camera due to its size and how light it was to use even with a monitor. If you are talking about the Micro Studio 4k IDK? I owned one then sold it almost immediately. I didn't do my research about having to buy a BM Video Assist and at that time it only recorded Apple ProRes 4.2.2 at 1080p and cost $500-$750 plus the $1500 camera. That was completely worthless for a 4k camera. Compared to the Micro Cinema which shot in CinemaDNG Raw up to 1080p and Apple ProRes 4.2.2 internally and can purchase a cheap monitor from small hd or feelworld.

Thanks for the comment. I think there are far better cameras out there you don't have to color grade, which is not fun, and get Full HD slow motion if you want to shoot for fun. I think they really want that cinema look OG has, why if just for fun IDK? Plus still needs some rigging due to poor battery life, mic for decent audio, and a monitor for outside filming. I hope you help us out and subscribe to the channel.

@@CoreCreativeMedia BMPCCOG has pro res options. I'm a software engineer, but my friend who is a video editor w/ a film degree tells me he uses the BMPCCOG b/c (1) small size (2) short battery life means his wife won't be annoyed b/c he's limited (3) challenge of setting up the shots w/ no ibis, etc. Obviously color grading isn't an issue for him. No doubt the micro camera is a better tool. I'm just pointing out that as a toy for camera nerds, the BMPCCOG makes more sense.

To get a good full hd cam today or good but cheap 4 k camera where can I buy them and for how much. I also own a BMCC 2.5k should I throw that in the creek backside of my house? Any good mobile phone outperforms pretty much every normally priced cam today so why bother getting a real camera at all.

Thanks for the comment but I think you missed the point of the video. This video is for people looking at buying this camera today and just making a suggestion (in my opinion as some one who owns almost every Blackmagic camera) not for people who already own one. I would never suggest someone who already owned this camera throw it in the trash, I still own a BMCC 2.5k and still use it. Yes I also discussed the high cost of all these cameras on the used market and suggest there are better cameras out there like maybe the Panasonic G7 4k that sells for the same price used as the BMPCC.

I'm only comparing the two Blackmagic cameras which are pretty much the same camera in different bodies and only comparing because most KZreadrs keep pumping the Pocket OG. Also only looking at cameras between $400-$800. You would be very lucky to find a Sigma FP for less than $1200 used. At that price I would save my money to see what Blackmagic does next.

The resell value is the image:price ratio. BMD corners the market on this ratio. Hands down. Not debatable. Its for NO other reasons than this, meaning the image characteristics. Any modern camera, even within the BMD lineup, offers better specs and features in terms of operation and convenience than the old pockets and micros. But what the modern cameras fail to do even 10 years later is to offer a filmic image that renders a painterly motion cadence for a fraction of the cost. You have to start breaking into the cinema line Canon/Sony, RED, Arri territory for that. Which translates to a second mortgage. Consequently, the new BMD Pockets and Cinema 6K, which, for all practical purposes, is just another version of a Pocket, offers the next best thing. When it comes to quality:pricepoint BMD is currently king of the hill. Other camera makers have the resources to compete here, but they lack the will to place people before profits, and THAT is why you pay for features over the kind of image most filmmakers lust after. The issue is audiences don't watch your camera specs. Instead, they hopefully get immersed into your film/creative world. Sources: I own Pocket OG, 4K & 6K Pro. I edit footage from all sorts of cameras.
