Why Nikola Jokic is Impossible to Guard

Спорт

Nikola Jokic is most famous for his ability to pass the ball, which makes it easy to forget that he might just be the best scorer in the NBA.

Artist is pretty much the right word for it. So unique, smooth, and silky, you don't even notice what the hell is he doing until you pause, rewind, and slow the clips. You see all of it, but you just don't get it until you see it in slow motion.

He covers almost twice the distance of other guys on his drives because he's taking long slow strides for his carry steps. He can do that because has no intention of leaping, most dudes it's one quick low step and a plant to be able to explode for vertical distance, but since Jokic can't do that he's making sure those steps cover a lot of horizontal distance.

100% agree with everything you said. Jokic's all-time passing and low post game lead people to think of his on-ball game more than anything, when in reality he adds value away from the ball in a way that only guys like Steph or KD can replicate. As for Murray, the movement shooting, quick decision making on the fly, and sharp cutting get lost in the prowess of his tough shotmaking and crafty handle.

I mean, when I saw the vid is 22 mins long, I was expecting you to spend like half of it talking about his all-time great passing cause I wasn't expecting anyone to go over Jokic's scoring game with this fine-toothed of a comb. But you had so much insight into his scoring game, you were able to use all 22 mins breaking only that down. Impressive work man. Also, props for getting the pronunciation of his first name correctly. My man Ben Taylor is starting to slip with his "Nikola" pronunciation in his recent Jokic videos 😅.

Stunningly good video. Analysts struggle to see Jokic's amplification effect of his passing in a team sport (duh!) because they historically are looking for superstars who do it alone, but not nearly enough attention has been given to his ability to score the basket. And it's amplified further now that he has a huge athletic teammate in AG who is almost undeniable within 10 feet of the basket. Denver amplified by Jokic may just be a triple champion threat. But it will only be after they win the second one that analysts will realize that this team is better than any superstar stacked team of the last 10 years. They are changing how the team sport of basketball is played.

People see that he averages around 24.5ppg and say he's not an elite scorer hes shooting 63% from the field lmao if he went down to 45-50% from the field like other superstars he would average 35ppg and a triple double he's just not taking stupid shots and making the absolute best play possible and he's just to smart with his passes and other moves especially his footwork in the post and to top it off he can shoot from anywhere i say hes a top 5 passer ever some of his passes it almost looks like he bends the laws physics lol

Offensively I 100% agree, in many ways he expanded on the Bird archetype, especially by adding the mega on-ball scoring that Larry didn't really have against elite playoff defenses. Will say that Bird's era allowed him to make a bigger defensive impact for sure though, definitely an interesting debate imo!

Joker footwork, movement off ball and placement of greens are top notch. Joker offensive arsenal is out of this world. Is not like Centers (That fraud of Embiid) who is being told that he can do everything while he surely can, but can he do everything at great level like Joker? No even close. Joker is All Time close to the rim and inside. He's All Time from the Post. He's Elite from Mid. Elite on drives to the basket. He's Great at 3PT. There's NOTHING Jokic cannot do on offense. Pass,Shoot,Drive,Post,Mid,Step Back,Pull Up,Triples,Free Throws,Passing,Cutting,Movement off ball,Screen usage, screen setting, PnR,PnP,DHO,Reverse PnR and PnP. Jokic might be the greatest offensive weapon in the history of the NBA. I cannot think of a player who could absolutely everything at All Time great level. I can only think of Larry Bird because Magic couldn't shoot, neither Big O,MJ couldn't set Screens or do PnR's, Hakeem couldn't shot, Jokic and Larry Bird are the most talented basketball players in the history of the game.

When @HoopVenue uploads I tune in, it is as simple as that. Another banger!! I love how you took the time to explain how his shot mechanics work when he's in the restricted area. Hes not just throwing the shot up he's poised and just patient enough to wait for the right timing to release. He is also scanning the floor for that extra pass because he knows the double team is coming off his weak side. The reason why his game looks so effortless is he doesn't make any unnecessary movement, he takes what the defense gives him and adjusts accordingly. Add a ridiculously decent 3pt shot (he shot 38% last season and you have someone who, dare I say it, is LITERALLY impossible to card. This man is poised to win multiple championships and possibly go on to be top three greatest centers (after Tim and Hakeem of course)

Wemby will play the 4 against him, or the 5 but they will put a strong wing (Like the Lakers did with Rui and Bron, or the Wolves with KAT), so he can stay close to the rim and do what he does best, protecting the rim and blocking shots. But 1 vs 1 Jokic will probably struggle at first, but he is so smart that with his strength and skills he’ll find a way to score on him, but i think in Wemby’s prime, like in 4-5 years he will be able to guard Jokic, Wemby right now is 230, in his prime he will probably be 260-270 like AD or Gobert and with his lenght and athleticism i believe he will be the only player ever really able to slow down the Joker 1 on 1 …

Big Honey is too good. Should be said he doesn't dramatize fouls and that also means he doesn't hit the hardwood as much, which helps avoid injury and deep bruises. He is just on another level, and I'm kinda waiting for a wing place to advertise with him for that elbow hook I can't unsee now. I hope they unlock more chemistry this year, its already great but they could repeat and cement their team as great. Also I'll say it, Nuggets have a top 10 defense this year.

Nice Job. Really shows off Jokic from all over the floor. One thing you touched on, but I think could be emphasized more is, he has excellent deceleration where he drives hard to the basket and if a big man is still right with him, he just puts the breaks on for his last step and they can never stay with him.
