Gil is 100 percent right. If the players hold out, the fans will get tired of the replacements and turn it off. When the fans stop watching, the sponsors stop paying. When the sponsors stop paying, the team owners are going to make the deal.

Waddaya mean per year. You just said the contracts weren't guaranteed so after the lockout begins those players getting paid 200k aren't getting paid anymore. Especially 200k contract meaning it's the league minimum also meaning no big signing bonus to survive off of. Only about 5 players a team getting paid the big money meaning big signing bonus to survive the other 48 or so are had by the nuts.

Which essentially just comes down to living below your means until an agreement can be reached. Most Americans are making it off of $60k/year. It would just be a sacrifice but at least now when you come back that 2-500k is fully guaranteed no matter what and obviously any other contracts. Now with that being said the owners could easily still vouch for retaining a hard salary cap but it just means you can’t pay a QB 50/mil a year so in turn it would level out the the paying field for all positions. BUT that smaller contract is fully guaranteed. It’ll be a give and take

Exactly just look at the numbers. 2022 nfl had a revenue of 12billion, and they have almost 1700 PLAYERS, not even accounting for anything else. The nba had 10.5 billion and they only have 450 players. Like it’s really just a numbers game

The shield as a brand is shrinking while the brand of the indivual brand star QB is rising. Patrick Mahomes is about as popular of america athelte that there is. Mahomes, Jackson, Allen, as individuals are all bigger than The Shield.

Let's quit the BS tho. Mlb has 162 games a year and the NBA 82 games. NFL got 17 with 55 players. Mlb 162 with 26 (in an active roster and 40 man rsater) Nba team got 15-20 players with 82 games. Obviously the pool of money is way larger for nba teams than nfl. Nba playoffs is more rounds and more games per round. NFL you have one bad month and your season is almost over

​@@acruzro95Yes but the average NFL stadium is 90,000 seats. The average ticket per game is going for $3,000. That equals 270 million per game in ticket sales plus merch and food sales and TV rights. The NFL makes endless money. They should pay the lower players more money. Everyone on the team should make at minimum a million a year. The practice squad maybe less because they don't play etc. Also they have to spend a lot in keeping the stadium up and paying all those people to work at the stadium etc.

NFL players play around 20 games a year. The other sports play more games which means more revenue and ticket sales. Therefore NFL players will typically make less money per year. Mathematically it makes sense.

Nobody seems to look at real numbers. NFL player revenue share is 48% and the NBA player revenue share is 51%. 3% more spread out over a 53 man roster wont look that different.

Social Media has created a lane that has allowed fans to become much more attached to players. The notion that fans are only attached to teams compared to players may have been true in the 80s but times are different now and I think that changes everything. Fans would not be okay with replacement players playing now for an extended period. People already hate the preseason

The problem is other than the qb, players change teams way too often now so there's no real player loyalty. You can throw any player on your team and you will still watch it.

Exactly, the modern NFL fan is paying to watch their favorite player, regardless of the team. They are not going to waste their money on replacement players, and the same applies to those TV networks. Love that AP Unc! But you stuck in the 1980s.. these days, the networks have a lot more power. They (and the fans) want the real players. The players need to hold out: 1. Guaranteed contracts 2. No franchise tag 3. Lifetime health insurance 4. No salary caps

1987 was a long time ago. Now NFL has more ppl so they’ll never get NBA money but the way ppl watch the XFL I think they could do a holdout. But guys gotta be on code with each other and that’s where the problems are. NFL players won’t even take the risk which is sad.

NFL makes 10x that of the NBA as a league. The issue is revenue sharing which it’s obviously NFL owners don’t want to increase the slice of pie given to NFL players. Can’t be mad NBA players are more business savvy, and create their own brands to use as leverage contract wise.

GiL has a MAJOR point. And I hate agreeing with him lol. Even if the NFL owners were to replace striking players, I have a hard time thinking fans would be satisfied with an inferior product/team.

The problem with the league is, they will always have college students to put on the uniforms, that brings crowds with them the next year. America loves they're football.

Theres only 15 players on a nba team compared to like 50+ on a nfl team. Simple mathematics

Not simple because there’s no reason for the NFL salary cap to be anywhere near the NBA’s. They generate like $25 billion a year so a $250 million dollar hard salary cap to pay 53 players is really peanuts when you think about it

It's easy for those that have a solidify standing to hold out or ask others to hold out. Those that are just making ends meet will never do since they have more to lose. If the movement is important, the top tier players need to provide loans, with no interest. That way they have skin in the game, without making a potential side profit, as those that are cutting their living paycheck. Both will have strong incentive to make the hold out work.

WOW!!! This is the most consequential NIGHTCAP show ever! Them boys are talking money and the deep skeletons of the NFL. The owners are going to be shaking in their boots when they watch this show.

No ant signed a 5/204. He got that because he was a alstar on his rookie deal. Now that he has made is first all nba team. That increases the 204 to 245. So it adds about 7 million dollars to each year.

I feel like Gil is missing the fundamental difference between the nba and the nfl. Fans are more connected to players in the NBA because they aren’t under a mask. That goes straight to Unc point that football fans are loyal to the logo on the helmet. In a perfect world Gil’s scenario is true. There can’t be any change without struggle, but 90% of these football players aren’t makin the money that the top players make. That contrast is just so great that I don’t see a scenario where all them players say we gonna suffer so those few top dogs can stand on business

The owners have these players programmed to think like Unc. Thinking it won’t really matter because they can replace them. Will people show up to the games regardless sure but I don’t think that Unc understands that Stars is what sells these games as well not just the teams. They really don’t understand the power they could have but the players as a whole aren’t willing to take a stand.

You're right, but Shannon is right as well. UNC knows, the QBs have to be the ones to say no. Most other players ARE replaceable and not even college kid is gonna understand the gravity of what their seniors are doing, they'll just wanna come in and play
