And there is a second meaning hidden in plain sight, _NewJeans_ sounds like _New Genes_ which is what the group wants to bring to k-pop.
Newjeans' producers are honestly the main reason why I like them so much. Their songs are all so good. they have so many nice details and interesting chord progressions. I love their music so much!
I fw R&B and UK Garage heavy so it’s hard not to love the production on these particular K Pop songs

LOVE NewJeans sound. they always sound so fresh, light and 'trendy' (but yet I can see their hit songs still being 'trendy' even in 10 years). you just won't get bored or tired of their songs
newjeans producers are geniuses. i grew up listening to predominantly 90s nyc hip hop and their beats often remind me of 90s hip-hop and rnb, either from the drum choices, slower bpm or anything else

pretty much all kpop dances are to the lyrics, especially because it's harder to dance to the beat rather than the lyrics while singing because it'd be polyrhythmic, so actually dancing to the beat shows more proficiency

NewJeans' main producer 250 and FRNK are already one of the best producers in South Korean hip hop scene. Since S. Korean hip hop scene is best in Asia after fall of Japanese hip hop scene, we can say they are top producers in entire Asia. Solid analysis. Would love to hear your breakdown of ETA. That B flat chord progression is DARK and the beat is absolutely relentless. A lot more going on there than it appears.
THERE IS NO WAY all the thoughts I have while listening those songs were ALL explained here, WHAT The offbeat in attention and jersy club beat in supershy and ditto, I've never seen people talking about it. THANK you man. That agressive sounds that groups like blackpink would never appear in newjeans song and the precision on the chords and sound makes so many remix of theirs songs.

NewJeans really caught my ear a year ago mainly cause of their amazing production style and vocal synergy. I mainly got the rnb vibe and immediately noticed the jersey influence but i didnt pay as much attention to all these details you mentioned. I knew for sure they gave me a complete vibe like no other. Well put together vid and subbed!!
Thanks for such a thoughtful and astute analysis! I also feel that what makes NewJeans so distinctive is 250's fantastic love and knowledge and incorporations of Trot (which preceeded k-pop as the popular music in korea) - like in those upbeats. It must inform so much of his grooves and drumming and swing - and it feels special that NewJeans' might be going full circle, back to the origins through subtle trot influences!~ it's so clever and meaningful!

One aspect I love about New Jeans beats is that the replay value is insanely high. No matter how many times I’ve heard one of their songs, it will sound just as fresh as the first time I heard it. Big emphasis on the simplicity aspect. Their beats are a perfect balance of chill yet having subtle elements just enough to keep interest. Their songs are produced exceptionally well and listeners notice that. Very well done video!👏🏾

Bro, the quality of this video is absolutely phenomenal! I love the way you explain things, the video editing, and, of course, the new concepts we might've missed that you are sharing! Can't wait to see more of you. Keep it up!
It's incredible how everything that NewJeans puts out has cohesion.
This is a perfect explanation of why me, not even a kpop fan, loves Newjeans...they encompass outside of KPop, and when everyone was trying to be bombastic, they took things back down to earth. They're literally standing out by not shouting in a crowd full of people shouting. Plus they feel so much more human than a regular idol, I know its probably a persona but they feel more like actual musicians than idols, dating back to the times of late 80's - early/mid 90's alternative era where genuineness and stripping down of music revolutionized the rock music. Same as Newjeans taking out the formulaic "belting and rapping and aggressive (or overly cute)" KPop approach, 90's alternative straying away from Glam Metal's "Rockstar Persona", being more human and downright removing the "Guitar Solo" and overcomplicated riffs as a rebellion to that "Guitar Hero" persona....Newjeans is deconstructing how KPop should be approached, and they're bringing in more outside eyes to KPop to their fold. I almost convinced Newjeans is able to exist outside of KPop, that's how unique they are...but this is also, I feel, is why most KPop fans don't like Newjeans, because KPop fans are used to the aggressive, bombastic, and overly cute KPop formula.

@@KhanhDinh291 yeah, thats what ive been hearing too...kpop fans (especially most western fans) love their kpop sound, and they might have loved a "ditto" once in a while, but they get tired of it right away and reverts back into liking the same old kpop formula. Newjeans is big with non kpop fans and people who are turned off by kpop because of how repetitive and formulaic it sounds and look, because they almost dont sound kpop. There are also some fanbase who hates Newjeans and act like theyre not good because they seem to take offense on anything that went against Hybe, specifically Bang PD

So glad this popped up on my feed. I was heavy on Hip Hop/R&B for decades of my life, even DJ'd and did bedroom producing for a number of years, so I was always a beat-first kinda guy. Fell into Kpop at the top of this year and NewJeans instantly shot up to my Top 5 groups. You hit the nail(s) on why I'm so high on their music! Fairly simple in theory, but expertly crafted sounds that are so hard to ignore to those that are in tune with the beat in the background. They weren't featured here but their newest releases Bubble Gum and How Sweet incorporate everything that was mentioned here, and I love that the singles included the Instrumentals of each (which is something a lot of other Kpop groups do that I absolutely love!)
Wow I was talking to my daughter about how I listen to KPOP and the production they do. I'm an old fart rocker but since I always listen to what my daughter is into I told her New Jeans had some interesting production themes. Great vid and looking forward to checking out your channel. Thank you!

Great analysis! I always feel that there's something different in NewJeans' music but haven't been able to describe it. Thank you for shedding some light.
Amazing video and info! Thank you Josh!
As a lifelong pianist, singer, and jazz musician I can say that lots of Kpop is genius. NewJeans is definitely one of the groups that got me into kpop. When I heard Attention for the first time I knew Kpop was something else that no other genre could match. Even Jazz, one of my favorite genres, can be less complex than many kpop songs due it mostly sticking to real instruments and not implementing other genres. Kpop is a mixing pot of all of my favorite genres. (rap/hip-hop, Jazz, R&B, electronic, and even classical) I wished I had discovered it before my mid 20s. The BTS songs I heard in America just didn't sound different enough. Newjeans, Red Velvet, Billie, NCT, Loona they are all different and unique in sound.
Great video, can tell the effort you put in man! Good at your craft.
what hook me to attention is def the syncope, ppl usually syncope at the middle of the song to add some spice but they just hit it from the start
great video bro, lot of good tips, concise and well edited

As an artist myself, I've also wondered what makes Newjeans different. You explained it really clearly, great video! Right now, in my own songs I produce, I'm already thinking about sounds, emotions and swinging notes (since I do a lot of soul, R&B, and came from a jazz backgrounds) but I love what you said about simplicity and I wanna challenge myself to work on that. Thanks for the reminder :)
When I listen to New Jeans songs, the genre well basically the whole vibe is quite reminiscent of 4 walls by fx (They have the same creative director). I feel like if new jeans and fx were to exchange tracks they'd still fit perfectly.

Ugh, I LOVE this video. I have a habit of calling things I love “not real”, and NewJeans, is very unreal. I also noticed I’m attracted to very melodically pleasing (?) sounds as like a BASE line.
