I felt that.. the last time i played minecraft with irl friends 2 of them got full enchanted diamond gear on the second day, followed up with beating the dragon. Since then, they only played for a week more to try redstone in their bases before stopping because "they got bored" after rushing everything.
In all fairness the game does get rather repetitive after one or two in-depth playthroughs. Only difference you can really make is your approach to building, but that’s not for everyone, the technical/gameplay aspects do get pretty repetitive at some point. Mods, of course, are a lovely solution.

in addition to that, if you and your friends are all playing the game for the "technical/gameplay aspects" (good way to put it) then its likely that minecraft isnt the game for you, quite simply. i myself dont know any technical/gameplay oriented multiplayer games because i dont enjoy them but they certainly exist, and if thats more your jam it could be better for your group than unmodded minecraft, no matter how nostalgic it is.

If you do technical minecraft following all the tutorials and being as effecient as your server can handle, I can see how it's repetitive. I’d rather gouge my own fingernails out than try and use redstone. I have never in my life experienced anything more unfun, frustrating, and cruel. The worst is that it never works, despite other people making it seem like it’s possible or _might_ work or somewhat easy. You have to spend like 10,000 hours to get something that should be so incredibly simple to work. Awful aspect of the game. Never again 👎
One of the best things to do is not to rush the game. Actually take the time to enjoy and experience what Minecraft has to offer. You don’t need to become super powerful and have everything. It’s fun to challenge yourself or play in a way you typically wouldn’t. Having everything gets boring, because there’s nothing more to get, and everything is so fast and easily accessible. Just chill and take it slow. Try exploring on foot as well, instead of flying everywhere with an Elytra or in Creative.

What my friend’s smp has done has banned us going to the end. For the first week, we werent allowed to go to the nether. Keeping areas locked off makes it so people want to play more and prepare for when it’s possible to go there. The server’s been active for months and it’s going well.

might I also suggest: Keeping certain resources locked. Imagine this: what if, as a challenge, the first few days you only had access to wooden and stone tools. And only then do you get access to iron. Imagine how much more satisfying it would be compared to getting iron within 2 minutes. You could make a whole history-style server with it and have these "industrial revolutions" from time to time. the way I don’t get bored in Minecraft is to set yourself a goal and once you finish that set a new one and you never get bored
I can only build so many mines. So many farms before its the same stuff over again
Id suggest just dont use elytra. It may sound kinda silly but ive been trying it and have been having much more fun then i normally do on my realm. When you can fly all over your world in a matter of seconds and can escape from any situation instantly it kinda sucks the fun out of the game. At first he wasnt very fond of that idea but after playing he said it made him feel very immersed in the world. To be fair, logs dont take that much to read but it does improve your experience (to some people) if you take a break from "working on the main goals". In a way, the problem is that people are just focusing on finishing the main goal (getting iron -> going to the nether-> finishing the game) instead of also taling detours sometimes. If you dont enjoy that then id say that minecraft vanilla is simply not for you (Everything that i have said here depends on the person obviously. It is perfectly fine if you dont like what i have suggested here)
Essentially, we are all growing up and don’t have the time or drive to learn and play anymore. We just play the base game and move on.
The problem isn’t that “Minecraft is a sandbox, your bored because your playing it wrong” or “there’s not enough content” because modded servers are just as common as non-modded, but the 2 week rule still applies for a simple reason: we play this game a lot. It’s over 10 years old and is the most popular video game in the world. The problem is we know this game extremely well, especially what we enjoy about, so we just do that. When you play your 100+ world of MC, you can obviously see how it gets repetitive.

Im trying to make a sandbox game in a sandbox game then😂.
I think the reason why people get bored is because there's not much to explore. Like yes there are unique biomes and whatnot, but what about structures, something to look forward to? The trial chambers are actually pretty good since they're bringing in unique loot that is worth exploring for.
I was starting to get a bit motivated to make an hardcore world, and this video gave me that push I needed❤
The issue is that Minecraft was designed and made popular back around 2012/2013- when the 2000s kids (like myself) and the 90s kids were the main demographic. While ADHD and ADD are prevalent in those generations, we were the generations that were glitch hunters, 100% completion gamers, the people who put gaming on the map and wanted to spend 10 hours in a single day trying to complete one game because we couldn’t just go and get another one due to us having to either drive or ask our parents to drive us to the store. Once games became readily available all the time through the popularization of PC gaming, our ability to sit and grind the same game diminished a lot because now we didn’t have to wait for another game- all we had to do was wait the 30 or so minutes for the new game to download and just play some video games or watch a few videos on KZread during that time, or chat with friends or something. Nowadays, the demographic target is the 2010s kids, the ones that are 9-10 years old today, who grew up with the luxury of the iPad and other devices that made gaming and entertainment an expected right, not a privledged commodity. However that is the sign of progress, and complaining about it won’t do anything. Kids, I suggest you truly sit down and experience some of the games from your previous generations. Play Zelda on the NES without a guide and explore your way to knowing how things work, play Metroid and Kid Icarus and Devil May Cry and Dark Souls 1, and without looking up a guide or cheat, stumble your way through the game. You’ll enjoy it because in those days, the big publishers had such an innocence and genuine desire to make good games. See what the publishers were like in their heyday, and then ask them to bring back that creative risqué. You’ll thank those of us from the 2000s later, when you get that rush of adrenaline from beating a boss you couldn’t figure out for 3 hours, or when you finally crack the code for that secret achievement in that stealth game. When you notice the subtle references to other titles in the same Genre, like in Metal Gear Solid and Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell.

That’s why lore smps worked so well. The whole idea of lore gives a separation from the game of Minecraft giving people opportunities to develop skills that go beyond just the server they play on and it gives you more control over how your character impacts the world it’s in
SMP's are a great escape from the P2W servers, or you can play on hypixel and the other 0.1% of F2P servers
How to make your smp fun! 1. Invite a friend so they can invite more friends you didn’t ask for 2. Make sure to steal a object from your friend that he spend 2 years finding 3. Kill your best friend because he started his own country 4. Start a war between you and your friend 5. Blow up your friends country with TNT And 6. Be happy that you and your friends where not bored:)
i think this is why servers like hermitcraft and empires have been going fairly steady. they focus on interactions, building, and sometimes lore a lot more.
Mods make the game so much more entertaining

It’s not necessarily a lack of skill but a lack of creativity for me. without a more rigid progression structure I it just feels unsatisfying after a few days
This is why i create anarchy. I dont enjoy doing it sometimes but it brings the server together. Not the way i wanted but its what the server needs to keep on living.
This is why me and my buddies built a whole country and named towns we built and raided💀 Really makes things more fun, also we had plenty of civil wars and were separated in to factions many times…

I think this is one of the reasons I love terrairia more than Minecraft. Just the fact that there’s so much more to do while also having a great sense of progression and an infinitely more diverse rpg system Edit: minor rant in the comments Edit2: just adding some more of my opinions to this statement. After a bit I really do feel as if my main grime with Minecraft is its lack of a solid sense of progression. I feel like the more open ended progression of Minecraft just doesn’t feel as satisfying as other games such as terrairia or games in other genres such as risk of rain 2 or even things like legend of Zelda tears of the kingdom. In those other games with every step I take, every enemy I defeat and every item I find I feel like I gained something. Meanwhile in Minecraft say finally get diamond gear and beat the ender dragon (even though you really only need iron it’s so damn easy) there’s basically no more meaningful progression after that. I have tried to make myself busy by trying to get netherite or trying to use redstone or even trying to get all the achievements. But after the dragon all this progress seems superficial and I find myself getting more and more bored as time goes on. And then if you try to play the game over again in a new seed or difficulty the progression feels the exact same as before with insanely little variety in combat and the grind to get good gear. I don’t know wether it’s me not being able to make my own fun or me not being very creative but after playing Minecraft for years I really just can’t find much fun in it anymore

I literally have over 1500 hours in terrairia and about 12 play throughs under my belt on every mode meanwhile when I try to play Minecraft I’ll play for about a hour then I’ll get bored and go play something else because every play through feels like it’s the exact same as the last one

Agreed. The great thing about Terraria (especially modded with something like calamity, spirit, AA, SLR, EA, tremor, thorium etc.) is that by the time you are finished with a playthrough its been so long since you started that early game feels new again, (especially if you change classes) making it have a perfect cycle. The fact that Minecraft is so open is its own downfall, its too vague esp with burnout. With terraria you know exactly what to do and there's many fun and creative ways to do it, that being said I love Minecraft but mostly just hypixel skyblock lol.
What about Hermitcraft? That server isn’t failing either because they have game twists like hermit permits or because they all like pranking each other like Grian with his mycelium army... and Grumbot!
The 2 week rule is easily fixed by simply playing in a version without the enderdragon 💀
the truth is, minecraft really isn't that fun, it's engaging for a while, you can build what you like, you can manipulate the world as in digging mining, crafting, ... that was a novelty 15 or so years ago when games generally didn't let you change anything about the map, at least not so far as mining and building free but with minecraft now a lot is actually outdated and most of all the fighting mechanics, at least make it like skyrim fighting i'd argue maybe there is also a need for more quests, the dragon is one thing but how about quests like again in skyrim, actual herbology and alchemy ,....

Ironic now considering mojang is trying to ban servers that have guns
The servers that I played with my friends used to be just beating the ender dragon and ending the server like 2 days later. We soon realized that even though we can defeat the game with max armor and tools easily, we lacked enjoyment. Our last few servers had me and my friends not grinding but more focused on building, redstone, and create mod. Our servers started lasting 2-3 months and we enjoyed the servers a lot more. Plus side also being that we could look back on the servers fondly and looking at what we accomplished.
Damn straight, i have this same issue with worlds and it's always because i get everything and then can't get the creative juices flowing. I miss the old days of having a world with all my friends and building basically a whole city based on all of us.
That was exactly how my smp ended lol

And if you don’t like building/red stone you can enable pvp. It makes it really fun a enables strategy later game assuming crystals/anchors are banned.
Basically, is like doing only the side quest of a video game and calling it boring, except that in minecraft there's no well-defined principal quest, you make your own quest
That’s why rat destroyed the end portals on his smp
You get bored on smp's because they aren't public and there is no one to compete with, like you've got a full set of netherite to be able to beat easy mobs?
Most people played this game for years, we did everything our creativity lets us do. The lack of updates just means that they are not adding more possibilities fir us to be creative
I agree, but ngl it would be nice to have some updates with more bosses and stuff to do

What I do when a create an SMP with my friends: Everybody lives separately to make their own bases. I establish a community center for people to make shops and mini games. Make it so everybody has only 10 lives so that way they’ll play until their lives are up.
watch hermitcraft for inspiration honestly. they beat the game in the first episode and then just have fun for about a year and a half

Unpopular opinion If you can't play a world for more than two weeks, maybe minecraft is not a game for you. It's not an insult, i think minecraft is intended to be played in a world for years and years, the progression is not only fighting bosses and get good on armor. The real progression in minecraft is starting from a dirt shelter and learning to build awesome bases, with different styles. The progression is making memories, Try to be better (at building, at Redstone...) than the previous day...

This is so real. I was throwing a villager farm together in the cave under my castle today and could feel my interest fading. My bf walked in and was like "damn that's kinda inhumane, why do you need them locked up?" And I paused and went... "Huh." I put some iron doors around my parts of the castle where I don't want them and started letting them wander around, and it's actually quite nice. Now I want to build an entire village for them, I have way more passion for this than I have in a while. Edit - except the farmers, obviously. They're not allowed to leave the fields. Assholes would just take my crops home with them.
That's where whoever is running the SMP can throw in mods to keep people interested. Secret castles and dungeons where you're forced into adventure mode. Hidden bosses. Build challenges. Raid defenses. Etc. A pure Vanilla SMP dies out because of the things you've mentioned. Getting a bunch of friends together to go on an expanding adventure will last longer as there's a new venture that keeps people interested.

If you just “enslave” the server population they stop playing as that is super boring and unfun. You can’t force them to do anything as they can leave whenever they want.
People are too uncreative for Minecraft. They dont realize the true range of different things you can do in it. You can build literally anything including everything. Build an automatic warden farm, build a giant underwater city around an ocean monument with a huge glass dome over it and put villagers there! Do something, anything, because you can.
i always get bored of smps my friends make because i really just want to have fun and build and explore, everyone else is deadset on becoming gods or starting wars in the name of 'lore' and it annoying asf having to take precautions against things that I dont even want to deal with.
Honestly I find adding some story and roleplay make it more interesting. The Dream smp is proof that it works.

SMPs are becoming a thing of the past. Private worlds have so much more to offer
Everyone else two weeks in: full netherite enchanted Me two weeks: iron armor
That's why the dream smp caught on so quick before it became roleplay. Without the End, people had to explore and do things on foot, leading to finding unique locations, fun little jokes being made due to natural creation, and just generally more fun.
All the smps I've been in wore left in 1-2 week . The smp that I'm currently playing on has one rule no end( that means no ender dragon kill) and to my surprise this smp has 2 month and it's still going.
"learn redstone" i simply can't comprehend what the hell a comparator is
"building a gunpowder farm for rockets" Nah, the ones on our server are for tnt
A nice idea is to divide your group of friends into several teams and then start a war. Always fun.
What we really need are some CMP servers. Creative mode, natural terrain, youre not limited to a single plot, etc.
