Victor W. doesn't seem to need it as he's so skillful at shooting straight up and dribbling. If he could master it, he'd be an impossible force. I doubt he would dedicate that much effort into the shot though. They like to shoot 3's too much to have their backs to the basket. Plus, the league's play is soft today anyway... Physicality is gone so just LeRambo your way to the basket. 😆

@@gaffle7646 It's an easy shot. That's the hidden advantage. It takes little energy and limited aim. And, at his height it can't be blocked. Let me say that again, it can't be blocked. It will be a double team magnet. My brother tought me this shot in less than a day. I only shot it right-handed and against bigger players. It almost felt like cheating.

I used the skyhook and got really good at it. I’m 5’9” and by using the skyhook, I was able to shoot over people as tall as 6’11” without getting blocked.

Just practice a lot and make sure you are shooting the ball by using your palm, not by bending your elbow or anything. You also gotta understand that the key aspect of skyhook is the height. You have to jump very high off just 1 leg in order to make it impossible to block. And if the defender is waaay taller than you, try shooting the ball even higher than usual. If done correctly, the shot would still have a solid chance to be successful @@paulgeorge9228

I figured out the Sky Hook back in high school. It's only a hook shot for its first 6/8. It becomes far more like a one-handed, turn-around jump shot by the time the ball is released. That's why he was so consistent up to 15 feet. Nobody shot a hook shot in this manner, not Artis, not Wilt, not anyone.

Exactly!!! People don't realize that the secret to the skyhook is it isn't a hook shot. It's a one handed jumpshot with a hook shot pull up.

Are you guys blind it sounds more like your describing a modern hook. The sky hook comes straight up with your body aligned with the basket. The momentum coming up is used to help with the power of the shot from farther ranges. Your arm comes straight up and then you flick your wrist with a smooth finger release. I've been shooting it and watching kareem shoot it since I was in 6th grade.

Incorrect explanation of illegal defence. It banned hedging, not double teams. In simple terms, you had to play man to man or fully commit to the double team .

Sky hook is the prettiest shot ever and the fadeaway

I’m 5 ft 7 and I use it all the time. I worked on it for years. It’s a great unexpected shot to have in your bag. No one knows how to defend it when I break it out at random times on the right block or rolling down hill.

The literal primary method of defending the Skyhook was a double team and at times even a triple team. You have footage of people trying to do it in your video and still put this information out there like it was true.

Kareem has said that he started practicing the skyhook as a youth to be able to shoot over taller players (before he went through his growth spurt). The idea that he developed it in college because of the dunking ban isn't correct.

I’m 5’10 And mastered the mini sky hook it’s like a layup when you learn to master it

I perfected that move but also used it as my advantage as a smaller guard in the paint .. centers be wanting to fight me at the hood parks when a 5 foot 10 PG goes coast to coast on em.. haha

I am only 6ft 3 and my signature move in the 3third division in sweden was my skyhook! Personally i think u are born with that skill, i have played against hundreds of players taller than me but as i was so good at it i was unstoppable against gyes even 6ft 8 or taller. I am convinced that if kids today practise the skyhook it will give them as i got a nearly unstoppable move. Very useful sometimes. People used to scream kareem when i did it so good. I could only imagine how good it would have been though i never saw anyone doing this as good as i did if i was 7feet!!! so kids! get this move in your arsenals! i am 62 know and still play with youngsters but just in summer streetbasket.

i THINK that to do the skyhook with high percentice its like a gift like being gifted with a musicallitty gift or a talent to paint, its impossible i believe to learn if you are not born with the skill, thats why so few can master it like Karem did, and added his length it was mostly unstoppable.

People didn't do the skyhook back then either. It really had to do with coaching. It was considered a "weak" shot. You had to have serious nerve to use the hook in the eighties because if you didn't make it you were going to hear about it. No coach complains about a "strong" move that didn't work.

I actually do take it away from him. The fact that no one could double means he was not as impressive as modern players. For that reason, and others, he will never be a top 3 guy

But does going out to the 3 point line really make Embiid a better player? More versatile, more range, yes.... But i dont know about better. A center brought out to the 3 point line cant do what center are supposed to be best at. DEFENSE Would Hakeem Olajuwon have been a better if he was jacking up 3s? He was a great shooter and would have no doubt made a high percentage, but then he wouldn't be the all time blocks leader.

I was good at the skyhook ONLY because I shot it beneath the free throw line and AlWAYS BANKED it in ;-)
